Preparing To Configure Windows - Do Not Turn Off Computer
Jun 26, 2011
On my wife's new lap-top I installed a windows update. One of two. One failed, one installed. I clicked restart now and the computer started to shut down. The screen then showed "preparing to configure windows. Do not turn off your computer". After two hours I assumed there was something wrong so I tried to turn off but it wouldn't, even if I unplugged it,so I removed the battery. Now when I switch on and try to boot-up I see the same message and cannot get any further.
I recently purchased a Lenovo and figured that I should obviously get the Windows updates for it. I went to download the updates and all went well, that was until it tried to configure them with my computer. Everytime I turn on my computer now, I have to wait for it to try to configure updates. It gets to 15% completed, and then it suddenly says that the updates failed to configure, so the computer restarts, and then I have to wait for it to start up AGAIN. I've tried this at least 8-9 times and get the same result.
While waiting for the 7 Professional x64 installation to be finished, the screen shows " setup is preparing your computer for first use". The computer keeps reading the DVD drive about more than half hour and does not go to the normal desktop. I started from clean installation.
I have Dell gx 620, 3.4GHz, 1 GB Ram. I have installed windows 7 in it. Now a days I am facing a serious problem. My PC suddenly restart and some time it shows blue error message after black screen, after I restore my pc. Now another problem is that. After restore, now when I start my pc, in startup window it says "window is preparing your desktop".
I just bought a new laptop; ASUS N55SF-S1070V, and I have to completely close the lid to turn off the monitor. My former one turns its monitor off when I close the lid for, say 45deg, and I The built-in hotkey to turn off the monitor first appeared to work, but when I looked closely, it just turn off the backlight or something. I can still see the screen's content!I'm now using some apps to force turn off the monitor, but it's a bit inconvenient.I've been wondering: is there a way to configure the angle in which the monitor will turn off automatically? I've read a post elsewhere saying there's a built-in hardware based switch that detects this action, and it can't be configured otherwise. Is this true?
120GB Fujitsu Hard drive is set to IDE, but I've tried AHCI as well. 2GB Crucial RAM.Motherboard is ASUS M4A785-M, processor is OEM Phenom II x4 920. Using on board graphics. The only USB device that is plugged in is my mouse. I've tried 2 different ISOs and almost all the editions and I get the same result. I've tried installing the chipset driver along with it, but when I do it just freezes after it restarts.I'm starting to think that something isn't compatible with a 64 bit OS, even though everything is listed..
After I log in, within 15 min, the computer freezes and then says "reboot and select proper boot device". If I try to ctrl-alt-del, it will say "preparing security options"
I'm trying to configure a Windows 7 computer to set the default proxy settings by machine and not by user. I've managed to find the policy in [HKEY_LOCAL_..."ProxySettingsPerUser" and when I set that to 0 it gives me the effect I want and doesn't force me to edit the settings for each user.Similar to the problem this guy: ProxySettingsPerUser had. The proxy settings are now supposedly given from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE area but after hours spent googling and trying to edit the proxy settings none of my attempts seemed to change it at all. where the computer searches for proxy settings when ProxySettingsPerUser is set to 0? I read that on XP it was the same place but in HKLM not HKCU but this does not seem to work in Windows 7.
I'm trying to put a brand new copy of Windows 7 on my custom built PC which was running fine on Vista and XP.Completely fresh formatted hard drive. It gets as far as the "setup is preparing your computer for first use" screen and then just sits there indefinitely.I've tried repairing it after booting from Windows disc, it said no problem was found.I've unplugged and disabled everything possible, including going down to 1 stick of RAM.I've reset the mobo to default settings.I've tried starting in low resolution from the F8 menu.Nothing works, it just does the same thing every time.
Specs:
Core 2 Duo DDR2-800 RAM nVidia Chipset GeForce 8800GT with 2 DVI outputs SATA Hard drive and DVD Drive
Tried installing it on an old laptop to see if it was the disc and it installed perfectly on that first time.
I have a computer running windows 7 x64 home premium that is acting as my home media server. I don't have it configured any way special, just it has 7x3TB drives with my movies, music, pictures, and TV shows that my other computer can access. I am not using the home group function in windows. All my computers are linked through a GB switch and have access to the internet from the switch to my router and then to my modem so traffic between my home computers is through the switch and not my router. My server computer has an on board GB LAN port that is connected to the switch. I have a spare NIC card that I could put into my server, but am not sure if this would give me better network performance.
1) Would adding another network card to my server computer connected through a GB switch give me better network performance?
2) If I have a computer running a torrent client and seeding from my media server could I set it up so that one of the LAN connections was used specifically for this torrent client computer (and would that provide any more stability/performance to my system)?
I am not able to configure old files to the new computer. Some files a empty, other require passwords/ administrative authorization and there are files that are located in different document files under different user names.
I download the software for my Brother printer for installation. When I Run the installation till "Now plug in the printer with USP port and turn on the printer", nothing shows just like the printer did not plug in.
I'm trying to do a fresh clean install of Windows 7 x64 on a new harddrive (Seagate Barracuda ST31000524AS 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5") through a USB Key
CPU: Intel i5-2500k MSI P67A-C43 (B3)
Installing proceeds as normally, until it restarts at Configuring hardware....The resolution will change and then the error message "Windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware" will pop up.I've changed my SATA settings in the bios to ACHI, RAID, IDE and tried installing multiple times under each option but no dice.I've tried loading Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver from the MSI website prior to the Windows installation, but its giving me an error message about the drivers not being signed.
Can a windows 7 computer turn on by its self connect to a wifi internet connection start itunes and go to a specific radio station play for a few hours and then turn off and be able to do it all again night after night?I have a friend and she just cant get how to use a computer no matter how I try and teach her. She has a wifi connection and would like to listen to a specific radio station at night while she falls asleep. At present she listens to a station via itunes when I come to visit and I get the station for her.I wonder can a computer that is off be made to boot or does it have to be in hibernation or stand by to come on and where in windows 7 do I make the settings as to what time of day to come alive or on from being off. And I assume the same place is where I will have to put in settings to power off or go into stand by or hibernation. So first off is this possible?
I am a Mac guy so not sure but I think I already know where and how to tell it if a particular wifi is present to connect with it also if it loses the connection will it automatically reacquire that network? If the above is possible can I get itunes or Internet explorer or firerfox or other internet browser to startup and go and connect to a radio stations live feed via wifi without having to manually click on any button on the page?Is what I want to do very complicated and could be prone to hang or freeze and she would have to be computer savvy to get it all going again which like I said above she is not. Could she just hold down the laptops power button shut down and then repress to restart and it would come back on and all would be able to pick up where it left off?Do I approach this as have itunes always runningconnected to the station could the computer be made to go to standby or hibernation at a specific time and itunes would continue to run just not make noise so when it comes out of stand by or hibernation it will be on and connected streaming the radio stations music?
my monitor exhibited signs of flickering during start-up, but only minor ones and would just stop at the 'Welcome' screen of windows so I didn't give it much thought. Iv'e been using it with the cpu the same time I bought the monitor. But after some time, the flickering got worse. It went from 1-2 second interval flickers to a whole 10 seconds of blackness before it showed anything. Now,Iv'e got a new cpu but still using the old monitor. After a day or so, the monitor exhibited the first symptoms of my first cpu, so I just dismissed it. But after a week, It got a hell worse, before I even start-up my computer, the monitor doesn't show Analog/Digital at the top-left corner of the screen. PLUS my cpu keeps restarting after I pushed the ON button after 10 seconds or so. Is the monitor responsible for the restart and what could be the reason for the flickering?
A strange problem with specific .wav files. Several audio files brought into Adobe Audition 1.0. Edited and saved in two different folders. Several but not all exhibit the problem but not all. Start WE; select folder with wav files in question. The directory list field on top immediately starts with a green bar slowly expanding towards right. Next to the cursor arrow there is the "busy" rotating circle. Cannot get any properties on the wav file; however, the two docx files in same folder can be copied, properties shown and basically seem ok for use.
Noticed that the data definitions above the listing for the two error folders are: Name...#....artist.....albums Whereas for all other folders it is: name......date modified.....type....size.
All other wav files in other folders appear as they should and can be processed like any other file. So it is only several of the 10 Audition 1.0 edited audio files that have created the problem. I cannot delete these files. While the green bar is expanding to the right and when it completes its extension still have the "wave" running along the bar. When I try to delete an offending file I get another window "Preparing to recycle" window with "Discovering items". "More Details" show: Name: is blank; From: is blank; Time remaining: calculating; Items remaining: calculating; Speed: calculating. I let this run for 11 minutes and it just kept "calculating".
Another "interesting" thing is after the first time I encounter this problem, close WE and then bring up WE again the left panel shows only Favorites and Library (no computer list). When the cursor is in this panel I get the rotating circle. In any other panel, only the cursor. I can "place the Library in another window" and now with two windows I get the normal favorites, library and computer in one of them. If I restart the PC I can again start WE ok and run ok if I do not select a "bad" folder. Same problem exists if I start the PC in "safe mode". How to delete the wav files causing the problem?
Every time I turn on my pc I do have a message Do not turn of your computer Windows installing updates after a while I do have second message 0% Update completed after a while the third message appear Windows Update Failed, Reverting Files, do not turn off your computer after that I see the Welcome message then Windows starts normally. I do have Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, that happens every time I switch on my pc, my updates are:Security Update for Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Service Pack 1 Redistributable Package (KB2467175) [code]
It has been a year or so since I got my computer with a full running copy of Windows 7 Ultimate...All of a sudden after about 6 months of owning the computer i get a message when i turn my computer back on saying Windows 7Build 7601This copy of windows is not Genuine.I bought this computer from a guy my friend knew and now i feel like i got ripped off because of this...Is there any way to fix it... tried to contact Microsoft...unresponsiv
When doing a clean install on the Gateway machines, Windows 7 goes through the whole setup and installation process. I name my user account and computer name, pick passwords and choose how I want Windows to update. When it goes to prepare my desktop, it is about to load and is saying Welcome, then welcome changes from Welcome to shutting down, and the computer restarts. After the restart the Gateway recovery manager comes up and makes me restore my vista installation.I am not using Upgrade media, however because the installation is doing the exact same thing on only the Gateway machines, and the HP installation went fine, it leads me to believe it is a issue with the manufacturer?
My brother was doing something on iTunes, think unlocking a iPhone or something but when i came home and turned it on, it came up with Windows logo but then saying Preparing PC for first use and then a error comes up saying Windows needs to restart to continue installation. It restarts and does it all over again. I tried going into safe mode to do a system restore but comes up with same msg of preparing pc for first use and needs to restart. All i can think is something has corrupted the boot up and need to repair it but not sure where to go for it. There is a recovery option on the laptop from sony but that says it restores your laptop to factory settings
I had this pc working decently with Vista Ultimate x64, but wanted to bump it up to Windows 7 since the audio was poor and Media Center did not work well. I tried the upgrade through Windows route and this is when the issue began. The install went normally, but when i got to the screen for preparing for first use, it hung.
I have tried everything I know of, including using Active@ KillDisk to wipe the hard drive entirely. Whether I try a 32 bit or 64 bit copy of 7 Ultimate, it hangs at the same spot. I striped this machine down and have only a single DDR3 2GB memory stick in the mobo slot...
I've recently gone out and bought 4 HDDs to run as a raid 10, now I am using my motherboards onboard fakeraid a ihc10r. The cables are fine and when I try and install windows 7 (pro 64x) onto each individual drive with raid and ahci turned off in bios windows installs just fine. Now when I raid the drives as raid 10 windows install can see the drive and even then I load the drivers just to be sure iastor.sys etc (I've tried with and without) the same thing happens every time after the first reboot I get about 10 minutes in and about 2 mins after the screen resolution is adjusted BOOM "windows setup could not configure windows to run on this computer's hardware". I've also tried installing with 1 hdd plugged in, raid turned on in bios but no array setup and it also fails at the same point. It's pretty wierd.I did a memtest and it passed this, I also have the jmicron piece of garbage on my MB turned off. Furthermore the install proceeds when the SATA controller is in AHCI mode BUT not in raid mode.
I had only used it for a day and then the next day it wouldn't even turn on. I have tried everything that I can think of to fix it. From unplugging it and plugging it back in, changing out the power cord with a different one, trying to plug it into a different location in the house, turning the surge protector on and off, etc. I opened the side up and everything seemed to be in place and nothing was obviously unplugged. We do have a warranty but when we called we got put on hold for an hour + and gave up. We will probably call them again Monday I just wondered if there was something else that I should try before calling it quits and switching the computer out completely.
i'm also currently have an issues where, when i switch on the main switch, the computer turn on itself, i didnt even press the power button! And after a few second, maybe 2 to 3 or 4, it turn off itself again. When i press the power button myself, there is no more power. I cant turn it on.So, i do the same thing again. This time I switch off the main switch and turn it back on and the same thing happen again, the computer turn on and off again, and i also cannot switch on the computer after that. The same thing happen the next few time, so i assume there is something wrong with the hardware, or something loose
P4 - 3.00GHz - Windows 7 Pro - 2MB Ram.Everytime I need to turn on the computer, I have to unplug the power cord and then reconnect it. If I don't unplug the power cord and hit the power button, nothing happens.
My xps 410 Dell computer won't turn on. What happens is I turn it on it says to start normally or startup repairs when I click startup repairs it says it can't fix it. When I start normally gets to the multi-colored flag (windows loading screen) and sits there for about 30 seconds to a minute than it either restarts or goes to a black screen and than it has yellow letters surrounded by a small blue rectangle saying "Out of range" I don't know what to do, but what I do know is that I can boot my computer into safe mode which I'm in right now (safe mode with networking)
i have a acer aspire running windows 7 with 500gb hdd and 4 gigs of ram on board graphics card. The computer turns on everything initiates like normal but the monitor wont turn on, im not getting any signal. There are no beep codes etc, also ive tried removing the little lithium battery to reset the bios and still nothing. Ive tried using a different monitor and its saying no signal. I have another computer which is having the same problem its a acer something 1 gig of ram 250 hdd and a readeon graphics card...cant remember the exact name. With this computer i was attempting to add more ram to the extra ram slots and the computer booted up and worked but i only had 2.50 gigs of ram rather than 5? So i turned it off and repositioned theram.which now i wished i hadnt, i now get no signal from either of the computers.
I have been unable to turn off my computer for the last 2 days as it has been asking me to save changes to the "global template Normal.dot" whenever I try to turn it off. After I close out that window, it gives me a "normal.dot was being edited by another Word session" error.
my computer trys to turn off randomly.. computer is clean cpu is clean so no dust clogging it up.. programs try to close but I have a warning wish to me shut down or not some programs stay up and close.
