Pc Keeps Restarting At Boot Up Screen?
Jan 19, 2013
I have an HP computer that I had to replace the system fan today. Now the bios date and times are completely wrong. Safe mode won't work for me just keeps restartingStart up repair doesn't do anything. The computer is from 2006. Is it possible that the motherboard or hard drive is going bad? Is it time for a new computer? I basically can't do anything on it now.

I recently upgraded our old computer from Windows XP to Windows 7 Professional. It wouldn't boot from the CD to install for some strange reason so I put the hard drive in my computer and installed it from there. After it installed, I put the HDD back into the old computer and tried to boot it. Everything works fine until it says "Starting Windows". After displaying that message for about 5 seconds it restarts and brings up the choice: Run diagnostics (recommended)Start Windows normally If I choose to start normally, the same thing happens and it restarts again. If I run diagnostics it says the issue cannot be automatically repaired. The strange thing is that it will boot perfectly fine on my computer (if I put the HDD in), but cannot boot on the old one. Also, the same Windows 7 works on my computer.

Been snooping around these forums forever, and have finally run into a problem that I couldn't find an answer to.
To start from the beginning:
I have a Dell desktop.A couple days ago I tried loading a game from my start menu, and it said something along the lines of "Can't load, folder doesn't exist". The game was in my D drive (where most of my games are installed), and when I went to check what was up my D drive wasn't in "My Computer". This is when I got my first uneasy feeling that something might be going down. I dismissed the issue as a "I'll figure it out later" and continued to surf the internet/play a game installed on my C drive.

I recently started getting this problem where my pc [desktop] crashes and restarts for itself. then sometimes i get the following message
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
[Code]....
i'm not sure if its the same everytime but this is what i got on the last occasion.
i taut that the problem was with the amd catalyst suit, 12.8-which i upgraded to when it released- because sometimes upon restarting i did not get any display signal from the video card on my f22 aoc monitor. i did uninstall this driver and installed an older version [11.8 i think] and got an ease up on the problem. no restarting as regular as before. only during games.

i've been running windows 7 on my computer ever since i found out i need a higher bit os to run my movie editing programs. as i filled up my c drive and d drive with clips and photos and what not, my computer started doing weird things. the crashes are never consistent, sometimes the screen goes black, sometimes it freezes, sometimes i get a blue screen, and sometimes i can't even start the thing. i tried freeing up some space on my computer but no luck. now i can't even watch a Internet video without it crashing. so:
a) if i have no memory left on the computer, does this affect how it runs? when it was extremely full i wouldn't even be able to view pictures and stuff, but i have 2.5 gb left on c right now so i can view pictures but i can't even watch a Internet video or run 2 or 3 tabs at once
b) i downloaded my os off the internet, but it's never given me any problems. could this be buggy?
c) my old os is on the d drive and it takes up a lot of space, can i delete it to free up space? is it a good idea to?
d) do i need a ram upgrade? i really don't even know how much i have, it says 2 gb ddr2 memory if that means anything. at idle it runs at about 57%

My Girl recently got a Dell Inspiron N5040, when we first turned it on, after a few mins it randomly restarted, i thought maybe its just an update (had to install loads of windows updates) however, over the past week, its being doing it every time its been turned off for a few hours... however once it restarts and comes back on, it usually is fine, It's only when leaving it a long while then turning it back on, it does the same again, and today for the first time we got a blue screen of death, which i believe may lead to some answers, here is the report:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name:BlueScreen
OS Version:6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

Well, my PC won't boot to windows now. I cannot get it to boot to a CD image or USB image. It just restarts over and over again. I can access BIOS and it says my CPU is running fine, so I doubt it's that, but I can't get it to boot anything. I've tried removing all unneeded things like the cd drive and switching GPUs and PSUs, I tried resetting ram in different slots, but it just won't boot.. The windows 7 logo pops up for about a millisecond then the pc reboots. MSI tech support was useless. They just told me to RMA the motherboard and didn't tell me what could have happened. I want to avoid RMAing this because I have to get stuff done for school, and RMA will take 5-15 business days.

I'm having some trouble with my home built computer, with Windows 7 home premium OS. When my computer reaches the the windows 7 logo screen, after a couple seconds a blue screen flashes for about half a second and then my computer resets constantly. I have had issues with starting up the computer in the past but now it's really bad. I tryed to do a system restore but an error comes up with the numbers 0x80070057 on it. I would give you the blue screen number buts it's litterally impossible to see.I have tryed unplugging all usb devices.Unplugging cd drive, extra hard drivesTaking out extra ram (from 8gb to 4gb)I havn't had any problems with my self built computer for about a year until now. It works great, just has trouble starting. I have tryed many basic soultions to try to fix it and nothing worked! I am completely clueless

I originally had a Windows XP computer which I upgraded to Windows 7. My computer crashed yesterday and I got stuck with a reboot error where it would load through the Windows XP screen but get stuck on "Setup is restarting" blue screen and it just sits there. So I tried to just put Windows XP on the computer since I couldn't get anything to work. No Safe Mode, no Debugging nothing would work. Well I partially installed Windows XP on my D: drive and I am able to boot from the disk but C: drive says "System Reserved" and running from my D drive, all i have is a Recycling bin. I tried to setup a connection to the internet but it isn't recognizing anything ( since there is no connection wizard ). Point is I'm able to get into Windows, only it seems I have the files but nothing works.

My system specs:i7 930Intel DX58SO motherboard6GB (3 x 2GB) Corsair memorynVidia Quadro FX 18001TB seagate HDLG DVDRcoolmax 700WWhen I power the computer on, it goes to the "Starting Windows" screen (with the Windows logo), then it abruptly shuts down, and then powers on again. Then it gives me a choice: "Launch Startup Repair" or "Start Windows Normally". If I choose to start normally, it restarts itself at the logo screen. If I choose repair, it loads files, but restarts once it gets to the logo screen.I can hit F8 before the logo screen to enter safe mode. I ran AVG and Malware, which got rid of a couple of viruses. I ran memtest and a HD diagnostic, and they both check out OK.I don't have a system image to recover to. And I backed up my important files, and tried to reinstall windows, but the same thing happens: I boot from the disc, it says "Windows is loading files," then it says "Starting Windows," and it restarts all over again.

I am running an Advent desktop PC and its stats are as follows; Intel Core i5-2310 CPU @ 2.90GHz 8GB RAM Win 7 64 bit.The problem I am having is when ever i boot up the computer it shows the Advent logo-screen where I can access the boot menu etc but then it goes to a black screen with a cursor/underscore flashing in the top left... This screen stays for quite a while and I am not sure if it stops because of a key I have pressed or just because it has run its course but after it disappears the computer goes back to the logo-screen for a moment and proceeds to boot up as normal except slightly slower than usual. It is a relatively new computer and it has no problems running at all once the boot up is complete it is fast and as friendly as ever.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 on my Toshiba Satellite Special Edition laptop that came with Vista 64bit and the other night i downloaded iTunes 10 and told me to restart my machine so I clicked ok and then my laptop shut off and when it came back on the Toshiba screen came up as usual but seemed to stay on longer than normal then it goes to a black screen with a underscore that blinks for a few moments then becomes solid. Ive tried to use the "F" keys to get different boot options because i have the windows 7 ISO disc and a ubuntu disc that I could use but whatever i try my laptop wont process it just does the same thing over and over again and bever proceeds to the actually boot up windows.

While attempting to restore a previous backup of my system (with Norton Ghost 15), I got an error, and the system rebooted. Upon reboot, I get the black screen of death with just the cursor instead of the usual login screen. I have tried the following thus far: These all give me the black screen of death with movable cursor:boot in safe mode boot in safe mode with networking boot in safe mode with command prompt last known good configuration I did an initial system startup repair which went through and said it repaired it, rebooted, but no change. I did a pre-boot diagnostic test - nothing memory test - nothing tried restoring from restore point, but it says I don't have any (LIES! BLASPHEMY!) tried restoring from restore point on external disk - seemed okay, then failed. chkdsk - found some stuff, fixed it, no change. tried ctrl+alt+del on black screen of death - nothing
Now, I know that the hard drive itself is alright, that is, the information is still all there still. While I can't give you exact specs, I can tell you that I am on a Dell Studio XPS running Windows 7 home premium 64 bit. I'm at a loss as to what else to do. Despite being a black screen, with just a movable cursor, the system still appears to be running, as every few minutes, it will show the "thinking" cursor, where it shows the little circle next to the arrow.

I have 3 HDD's in my desktop computer but only one is used for an OS (the other 2 are just storage) and only ever 1 OS at a time, no multibooting for me. Back when the Windows 7 Beta came out I completely wiped the hard drive and installed the 64-bit beta on it. Since then, I have installed builds 7057, 7077, and 7100 (all 64-bit) on it using the Upgrade option and some times deleting the partition and formatting a new one and it has never started up using the Windows 7 boot screen, instead it always starts up using the old Vista boot screen.
I have installed the same versions of Windows 7 on 2 other desktops and 2 other laptops in my household and all of them have a working Windows 7 boot screen. All but 1 laptop were installed using a clean install but the 1 laptop was upgraded. I have tried the standard fixes using bcdboot and bceedit but neither worked and both are for fixing the boot screen when it REVERTS back to Vista whereas I've never seen the Windows 7 boot screen on this copmuter.

If I close down my computer by switching it off with the on/off switch, when I next boot, I see the message"Start Windows Normally" and a stopwatch which counts off the seconds until the machine will boot normally together with several options to boot into Safe Mode, which is expected. However I cannot select"Start Windows Normally" or move up and down to select Safe Mode options. I have to let the timer run it's course and boot normally because the whole window is frozen
