View 1 RepliesI upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 and now my Sound Card and Network Adapter don't work. On Device manager is telling me there are no drivers for these. I went to Dell Support and downloaded drivers for them and still they don't work. amva55 has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

Is there a way to fix this, or maybe even revert back to XP. I didn't make a back-up disc.. but if there is a way to do so, I'd like to.

View 4 Replies View Relatedthe volume icon has a 'x' over it and it says no audio output device is installed. device manager doesn't list any sound cards or controllers and scanning for hardware changes doesn't fix anything. I've been searching for audio drivers until recently I found out that the drivers are useless if your pc doesn't detect your sound card. I believe the audio was working after the upgrade to Win7 but after keeping the laptop muted for a long period of time (i don't use my laptop for music or video) the audio just stopped working.

Can I buy an Upgrade Windows 7 and do an in-place upgrade of my Windows 7 system, or do I have do buy a new copy (full) and do a clean install over a freshly reformatted partition?
Is it possible to upgrade my 32 bit Win vista to 64 bit Win 7 without re-formatting?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently about two weeks ago upgrade from an i3 530 and msi p55a-g55 to an i5 2500k and msi p67a-gd65 and if it's relevant, I changed my graphics card from a 5750 to 560 ti. I had the OEM version of Windows 7 home premium and had heard I'd end up having to buy a new copy and also heard that with all the drivers for 7 that everything should work fine. Well, the day I swapped in the new parts, everything was just fine and I was asked to activate windows, I did, and everything was still okay. After a couple of days though some of my programs like superantispyware (just downloaded), starcraft II, and gamespy comrade won't open. Trend Micro says there's no virus yet I can't for the life of me get these programs to open and most of the time the computer just seems to be slow. I've tried to restore multiple times and te is going to fix my problem. Also, if I do have to reinstall Windows, do I have to back up my entire HDD or can I back up just my school files and my games since those are the only two things that I use my computer for?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a Dell 1525, bought in Aug 2008, with 2GB RAM. I recently upgraded from Vista 32-bit to Win 7 32-bit. I am thinking about adding 2GB RAM, for total of 4GB and upgrading to Win 7 64-bit OS.
Can I just upgrade to the 64-bit version using the 64-bit disk that came with my Win 7 upgrade package?
Will it have to be a "clean install"?
Should I add the new RAM before or after changing to the 64-bit version of Win 7?
Will I be able to buy the upgraded version of win7 if I only own full ME and just upgrade XP. When I reloaded XP fresh, it asks for ME disk before I reload XP, Whats OK by me its just hard to tell from the win7 box if upgraded XP is enough to only buy upgraded win7, I'd like to save a buck and buy other PC parts.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm currently running a Dell Dimension machine which was purchased with Windows XP (OEM) originally installed on it and has since been upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium. Even though the original installation of XP was obviously OEM, when I upgraded to Win 7 did it change to a retail licence key and therefore now allows me to install Win 7 on a new machine that I'm building? The new machine will have components out of the old machine and therefore the old one will not be able to be used, but it will be a different MB, CPU and RAM.

I found a Windows.old file under the C drive, so that's what I figure happened.
Is there any way to make the USB drives work without having to revert to Windows XP? Also, are the ports not working simply because the drivers are not compatible with Win 7, or is there another problem (probably something simple and then I'll feel like an idiot =/ )?
just updated to WIn7 64bit on my HP EliteBook 8730w laptop, and it's only recognizing 2GB of the 4 I have. Tried updating the BIOS and that didn't solve anything.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a new Dell machine just before Win 7 was released so it came with Vista. I have not yet installed any other software on the machine other than what it came with. I bought a standalone copy of Win 7 to upgrade from Vista but when I install as an upgrade on my machine I get 2 copies of IE8 appearing in the programs menu listed as:
Internet Explorer
Internet Explorer (64bit)
They both will run independently but I am worried about the future stability of my system and really don't want them both on there.
I tried to Google to find anyone else with the same problem, but the only references I can find are to hackers who for some reason actually want to have two copies running. I do not know why I seem to be the only person with this problem.
I presume that I need to UN-install one of them - can anyone advise which one please and how to do it - my pc IS 64 bit by the way and I used the Win 7 64 bit CD to do the upgrade. I tried a factory reset of the machine and tried to upgrade to Win 7 a second time to check i was doing everything correctly but the same thing has happened.
Also, under control panel I seem to have 2 copies of Java:
Java (TM) 6 update 13 and
Java (TM) 6 update 13 (64-bit).
Is this the same issue - which one should I delete please and how?
I recently upgraded my xp system to windows 7 but I did the installation on a new drive. I now have both drives connected and I am trying to copy files from my old drive. However, I am getting an access error "e: is not accessible Access is denied". I can't even see a directory list. I set the ower to me and changed all file ownership to me and it shows I have permissions. But I still can't get into the even at the command prompt.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have three machines in my house running Seven. However I will focus on two.
1.) MSI Mobo, AMD 4200+, 2GB RAM, etc. (Look in my stats for the desktop)
2.) HP 6735s, AMD Turion X2, 2.5GB RAM, 256MB Dedicated Radeon HD 3200.
The MSI ran Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I had everything I wanted on there so I didn't want to do a clean install. Once the Seven upgrade finished, it was fantastic. The only program that I already had that didn't work was Daemon Tools. However AIM still worked, and you can't install AIM from Windows Seven.
Now on my laptop, it came with Vista, but I wanted Seven. So I did a clean install, because I didn't want all that HP garbage that comes with them. Now I have an issue with sleep. When my PC goes to sleep, and I wake it back up, it runs ok, but then when I go through certain tasks it hangs.
Sometimes if I awake it with my wireless off, it won't come back on, it won't recognize plugged in add ons, and when I go file searching it hangs, like if indexing is messed up. I am considering, rolling back, getting Vista all the way to SP1, downloading AIM, and whatever else I need, and just upgrading it like I did my PC.
Also, the third PC which is a Dell does not perform as well as it should, but does fine in Vista.
I am not a Windows expert, but from deduction, I can conclude that Windows Seven stability is greatly enhanced when it is upgraded from Windows Vista.
So I just upgraded from a GTX 560 TI to a GTX 670 and now my computer can't detect my second monitor. My main monitor is plugged in via DVI while my second computer is plugged in via HDMI. I've been on nvidia control panel and tried finding my second monitor there on the "multiple monitors" section, no second monitor there either.

My music, photo, video, and document libraries are completely emptyOther threads have said to look in the Windows.old folder but there is no Windows.old folder on my computer. View 9 Replies View RelatedGoing through an upgrade to Windows 7 (Ultimate x64 from Vista Home Premium x64) and saved the media center setup for last before I move my files back to the original locations. However, I am having problems with the TV setup. I have made no hardware changed during the upgrade and have been using the Hauppague 2250 WIN TV HVR-2250. I reinstalled the WMC specific drivers for Widows 7 and went through the process, and to summarize, no go. Setup manually and went to a channel to check this and got the message "Files needed to display video are not installed or are not working correctly. Restart Windows Media Center or restart computer." I am just connecting the OTA antenna and pulling the local digital signals (no cable) so it is just limited to that signal. Here is where I think the problem may have originated.During the setup, I relocated all default user profile directories to another partition (away from the standard system drive) through the registry. I am assuming that doing this, I moved the file location where the source file is directed to this partition and WMC is still looking in the "default" location for the video source so I will need to edit the registry to change the default location to the new user profile location.
How I drew this conclusion:I went ahead and installed WinTV v.7 because i wanted to record some old VCR footage through the s-video connection. Was having similar problems where the program was reverting to the default location (the "C" drive), and it was not picking up the TV signal. I changed the default location (to locate the "buffer" and "data" file in the program to the new user location and that straightened everything out for that program. So the assumption is that WMC is experiencing the same problem and i need to modify the default location in the registry to redirect WMC.
1. Are there multiple registry edits that need modified or is there a single location where these edits need to take place.
2. Since you do not have an option to edit directly in WMC, if I make these changes in the registry, reboot & restart the WMC setup process, will the setup process automatically revert to the original ("C" drive) location or will these changes hold through the setup process and I can go through the automatic setup process without problems. (Or do i have to go with the manual process).

View 2 Replies View Relatedso recently (in november) i upgraded my cpu, mobo, and ram, and have been getting many bsods. my new cpu is the amd bulldozer 8 core, and since its been known to have some problems, i updated my bios to the latest available (a beta bios). that fixed my steam games giving bsods. now i randomly get bsods every once in a while (every week or two) but the last few days i have gotten a bsod every day. i have disabled c1e state on my bios, and that made it so i don't bsod while watching embedded Internet videos. i also installed the windows bulldozer hotfix, which made my pc faster. then i noticed something special about my bsods - they only seem to happen while i am doing something not very resource intensive, like web browsing. it never happens while i am playing a game. so i thought it might be a driver having issues with state changes of my cpu. i disabled c6 state in my bios just in case, but that didn't seem to help much.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have just recently upgraded my OS to Windows 7 Home Premium x64 from Vista Home Premium x64 using the Toshiba Windows 7 Laptop Upgrade. I've actually had the choice to upgrade ever since I got the disk around two months ago, but only now did I have enough time to spare to upgrade the system. Anyway, after upgrading to Windows 7, I noticed that my system was noticeably slower than usual. I could open several tabs on Chrome while running other programs on Vista and I would barely lag.
Now, I'm having problems only with a few programs running. I also noticed that my CPU usage was stuck at 100% and it's not going down or anything. My laptop isn't as slow as a rock right now, but something should be causing the processors to be at a constant 100%. My RAM usage is normal. 4 Gigs being used at around 50% right now. I'm just worried that maybe some programs that I had with Vista are slowing down the computer, but I was sure to uninstall or update any incompatible software too.
I'm running on a Core 2 Duo T6500 (2.1Ghz) Processor with 4.00 Gb of RAM. My laptop is around six months old right now.
