After installing Firefox 4 beta, IE9 Beta and deleting quarantined items from Malware Bytes. After system restarts it keeps going to the Configuring windows screen do not turn off your computer. It goes for a few minutes then reboots. It has done this numerous times...
According to Microsoft's Redmond Magazine: Quote: Microsoft issued a "Fix it"-style patch on Tuesday for a Windows 7 upgrade problem that results in a system hang. The problem, for Vista users upgrading to Windows 7, is that the installer program never completes the upgrade. Instead, some users get a system hang after 62 percent of the upgrade has been completed.Microsoft is pointing to a Windows Vista plug-in, "IphlpsvcMigPlugin.ddd," as the culprit, according to the Fix it blog. The company had published a workaround with complex steps to follow. Now, users with the problem can use Microsoft's Fix it solution to carry out those same steps and complete their Windows 7 upgrades. Fix its are an attempt by Microsoft to simplify patching tasks spelled out in support bulletins.
At that point, the PC will roll back to Windows Vista. Users can then visit this support page, scroll down and click the "Fix this problem" link. The link will run a wizard with steps to complete to apply the patch. After the patch is applied, users can try the Windows 7 upgrade process again.Microsoft cautions that this Fix it solution should not be used for Windows 7 upgrades that halt at some other percentage than "62 percent." Windows 7 was released to the general public last month, but some individuals have reported various problems upgrading from Vista, including an endless reboot problem still under investigation by Microsoft. The main forum for getting help on Windows 7 upgrade issues can be found here, but Microsoft also offers other help resources.
I'm using Win 7 Ultimate 32bit on an HP Pavillion laptop CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 2.2 ghz, Ram 4 gigs..For many months I've been trying to install Java's latest update. been attempting it for so long I think Java has updated twice during this time. Sometimes it worked for a few weeks or a month then I'd get a message telling me I need to update my version. So off I go....back to Java - ran the test - sure enough it would say I needed to update or I had no Java at all. Right now the latest version is jre1.7.0_09-windowsi586.exe. I got it directly from the JAVA site.I've tried many fixes. From my OS troubleshooter to the MS Fixit tool at the fixit center and other tools in between. All of them say they have fixed the problem. I've spent hours reading about Java issues, fixes, etc at various sites discussing why - this happens. Its conflicting views.I do recall installing different versions of Java in the past because the site advised me to for reasons I can't remember now..... I think it was the JRE 2 - that had a browser plugin which had a fix for a later version of Java.In the last several months I periodically - dl and installed the latest version but each time I tested it - it would say it was NOT installed so I'd do it again after checking BOTH the destination folder (empty) and the control panel to see if it was in there and it wasn't so I tried again with same result. I never tried to uninstall earlier versions because I thought there was a reason they didn't uninstall completely like sometimes its necessary to keep older versions. When version 7 came out I noticed instructions said to get rid of them. Except at that point they would not uninstall. I got the same message whether I was trying to install or uninstall: "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable" "try an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'jre1.7.0_04-c.msi".The problem with that is this installer package doesn't exist. If you dl the installer as a stand alone package at the Java site it's name is 'jre-7u9-windows-i586-iftw.msi. The one that the message says to use cannot be found anywhere on the site which leads me to believe something isn't right on my end - yet I can't figure out what that is.I found these instructions on Microsoft Answers: Uninstall all versions of Java from Programs and Features After you have removed all versions of Java, please check for these folders and manaully remove (right-click and select delete): [code]
Unfortunately that was short lived as I had to do a system restore a few days later to before I started the manual Java delete due to another issue that was causing non stop events to occur every second in the event viewer.I went through the whole process again but this time Java would not install. I got the same message as before. my pc has other multiple problems with events that I've been fixing here and there only to have new ones pop up or the ones I fixed come back. These started in March when I got it back from a repair shop. I will be posting the details of that on another thread for a different problem..Should I go back into registry and delete those other Java plugins and scripts? They were in the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT folder.
I have been trying to fix these BSODS for a while, and have been told it is a wireless adaptor driver causing the problem. However I have uninstalled and updated that driver, and whilst crashes are less frequent they still occur. Also games which were previously very stable now crash/freeze every time. Fixes I've tried:
Running anti virus (AVG) Running a registry cleaner Running a Malware cleaner Replacing old RAM with newer and more RAM. Removing Daemon tools
Cleaning the inside of the case, (graphics card is not overheating) Uninstalling and updating wireless adaptor drivers Uninstalling and updating graphics card drivers. The usual system restores/CHKDSK etc. I've attached files as per the forum's BSOD rules. Below is my system, it is about 4 years old and originally came with Vista, which was upgraded with windows 7.

I have a very strange problem with a new Dell optiplex Windows 7 professional Pc I am using it as a file server. I keep getting messages in the shared folders. Access denied, file in use, You don't have permission. Something thinks these files are in use and they are not. If you reboot the computer they all clear but it comes back on different files. It is not a permission problem.
I've loaded Windows 7 RTM on my Dell M1330, as it's not a business-critical PC for me and I figured it would be good to test on. It was running XP Pro previously and worked great. With Win 7 seems to run ok for a little while and then starts randomly freezing and the system becomes generally unresponsive...then comes to for a little bit and then freezes up again. It's almost as though I have better luck trying to get something done by holding down the power button and then booting up again to get a few minutes of usable time. Seems to be aggravated faster by using an internet browser (IE or Firefox).
I've tried both x64 and x86 as clean installs and had about the same luck. I've applied the most recent Vista drivers supplied by Dell and the most recent nVidia drivers. Basically, I've tried every kind of driver combination I can think of, but it still acts like a system that has driver issues, but I haven't been able to pinpoint which device is causing this. Same install disk, etc yields good performance in a VM. So, my question is...has anyone with an M1330 w/NVidia video card been able to get Win 7 RTM running solid? If so, what did you do to yield the best performance?
When did stability become an issue with operating systems? Was it around the time dial up modems were used as Windows monitor stands? Surely such a stack was not as stable as when people used to put monitors on top of thick telephone directories. Was it when combinations of operating systems and programs often failed for no apparent reproducible reason? What happened to all the operating system bugs? Surely the bugs did not disappear as operating system stability became a concern. I'm trying to pin point the year. I guess it would be the mid 1990s but I'd like to hear your opinions.
The other thread was really poorly titled, and im getting an issue: Could not find file 'C:msinfo32.nfo'.I have a pc with a 3770k intel cpu and a msi-g45 mobo long story short im getting BSOD's.what seems to happen is ill turn the pc on and it will gradually slow down untill it bsods, it doesnt seem to be affected so much by what i do it seems to inevitably crash though.Ive noticed through CPU-Z where my CPU will jump between around 800-1600mhz to 3700 which of course is a feature with the new chips but after some time itll stop jumping and sit at 1600 and then 800 then my core freq will drop between 100 and 50 and kind of swap around there before crashing.I thought maybe my psu wasnt giving enough power to the chip but i tested that and it seems to be working fine.
I have three machines in my house running Seven. However I will focus on two.
1.) MSI Mobo, AMD 4200+, 2GB RAM, etc. (Look in my stats for the desktop)
2.) HP 6735s, AMD Turion X2, 2.5GB RAM, 256MB Dedicated Radeon HD 3200.
The MSI ran Windows Vista Ultimate 32 bit. I had everything I wanted on there so I didn't want to do a clean install. Once the Seven upgrade finished, it was fantastic. The only program that I already had that didn't work was Daemon Tools. However AIM still worked, and you can't install AIM from Windows Seven.
Now on my laptop, it came with Vista, but I wanted Seven. So I did a clean install, because I didn't want all that HP garbage that comes with them. Now I have an issue with sleep. When my PC goes to sleep, and I wake it back up, it runs ok, but then when I go through certain tasks it hangs.
Sometimes if I awake it with my wireless off, it won't come back on, it won't recognize plugged in add ons, and when I go file searching it hangs, like if indexing is messed up. I am considering, rolling back, getting Vista all the way to SP1, downloading AIM, and whatever else I need, and just upgrading it like I did my PC.
Also, the third PC which is a Dell does not perform as well as it should, but does fine in Vista.
I am not a Windows expert, but from deduction, I can conclude that Windows Seven stability is greatly enhanced when it is upgraded from Windows Vista.
I've got about 8 different Windows 7 boxes (some laptops, a few desktops, and some media machines). The frequency of "inexplicable weird things" and other aggravations has been increasing over time, and just the last few months I've found myself having done at least 4 complete re-installs, and despite this - all 8 of my boxes are suffering various different problems.I am basically loosing WEEKS of work time dealing with pointless fixes to what I thought would have, by now, been a stable operating system. Some (and by no means is this a comprehensive list) of the recent issues I'm facing are BSOD problems on 2 different boxes ("Driver state power failure"), various (but not all) internet programs failling to connect from one laptop, *extreme* slowness one another latop and two media center desktops, an inexplicably "corrupted" registry occurence, and other weird but similar things.
Most of my machines are new brand-name (HP mostly) boxes, with a couple of other ones thrown in. They all work fine using "live boot" linux distro DVDs, and I have no problems with my one other box that's not Windows (a Mac).Do I just happen to have the worlds worst Windows 7 luck, or is this a growing problem with Windows 7 worldwide in general???
I have two harddrives, the primary one 584 GB, the secondary one 1.36 TB. When booting, my computer takes about a minute or two to fully load, but if I start to actually use it, virtually all programs will move slowly, consume lots of memory, explorer windows will take forever to load, and even cause my video card to stutter a bit.
A while ago, I unplugged the secondary drive, and found that my computer booted up much faster, and was infinitely more stable soon after loading.
But with two harddrives, in order to maintain stability, I often wait up to 5 - 10 minutes after booting to the desktop, just to be safe.
Is this a normal symptom of having two huge harddrives, both of which are filled with about 500 GB each, and programs like Norton security suite and messenger programs all needing to boot up? Or is this a problem with the second harddrive?
i needed to make an clean installation of windows 7 and the only one i could get so fast was one with some programs added already, one of the programs was opera which i didn't like so i uninstalled it with "youre uninstaller 2008" and installed fire fox, so far no problems.
now i needed flash player 10 in order to install norton 2009, so i installed flash player 10 (direct link from the adobe website), but norton still gave me the error that it wasn't installed, i looked up and found this,
don't know if you can see it but flash player tries to install it on my opera folder, which isn't there anymore and it fails then it installs an uninstaller and say's its finished.
so i guess opera has left some system files in my computer so flash player thinks its still there and won't install the right way.
I am going to build a new system. It will have a 120gb ssd and 1tb hdd.I usually use the computer for various graphic programs and gaming. Until now i used to have only hdds on my systems, I used to partition them usually like this: c:windows d:various program files and user folder e:graphic programs and their scratch f:games g:storage (projects, videos, pictures, etc).i have decided to get an ssd drive now because I understand that it boosts the overall performance of the system. All the other information that I read about ssd was either irrelevant or too complicated to understand.I am looking for an advise on my new build. Obviously I will use the new hdd for storage but about what I should do with the ssd I am not entirely sure.First of all, should I make partitions on it or this will affect the performance?Second, except for the win system files what should I put on it? Will graphic programs or games benefit from that or should I install them on the hdd? I also read that I should put the temp folders on the hdd for brtter performance is it correct?
When trying to open programs task box opens up and ask for the exe extension for programs. I have tried to using the Internet Explorer program highlighted but it does nothing. It asks if i want to run or save the exe extension for the program. Tried both and nothing works.
Also tried to restore computer from and earlier date, get an error message that says "System cannot start."
I am rinning Windows 7 x64 home premium and I have been cleaning out my old cd'sI have an old win95 generations deluxe genealogy cd which will not setup in any mode on this computer. there is an social security death index set of 2 cds and I do not want to pitch it. I can mount and view it/them but not use them. The internals of the isos/cds are in .car file extensions and I cannot open these archives as I can not find a car archive r that will run on Windows 7 x64. and no 7zip or winrar or winzip will not open them. they are essentially they are text converted to database and compressed. does anyone know how to get these open so I can either use them or recreate them in another database program.
Using Windows 7, is there any way to search for files that have different extensions than ones specified in a search query?I have a bunch of directories and subdirectories and I only want two specific extensions to remain in all those directories. The others I want to review and then delete.
We just released 11.51 (b1087) with one security issue fixed and with several stability fixes. This security update comes right after the Diginotar certificate breach, but Opera does not require a fix for this issue. Opera always verifies that certificates are not revoked, and unlike other browsers Opera does not display sites as secure if access to revocation servers has been blocked by an attacker. Read more about this issue on the The Opera Security group - When Certificate Authorities are Hacked.See changelog here: Opera 11.51 for Windows changelog Download here Opera web browser | Faster & safer | Download the latest Internet browser free
I haan issue before about product key got it solved, but didnt do the laptop clean. I know maybe thats why im having so many problems now, but I have no ack up right now and it was my fault for resetting the laptop back to a restore point back in ocotber when it wasnt working. For those who dont know , I told it to a repair center, they wiped it and installed a trialversion of windows 7 I managed to get my product key now, so Im really not sure why I have all these viruses pop up msgs, Ive been using all the reccomended security protections.Iwould like to- I cant open any web browsers at all, Im typing this msg from realplayer. But even when I type in an address bar I cant access theinternet through there either, for some reason only through real player.
Mozilla wont open at all, opera tries to open a msg manges to pop saying 'opera in not default browser' etc, but goes after litrelly 2 seconds. I just tried openening IE it opnened, then froze , than crashed now it wont open at all.Opera wont let me delete it, my broiwesers were working fine since I dl opera its been maybe 1-2 weeks since than so how can it be that. Problem 2-Right now its very difficult to type this messege, no matter where I type on my laptop, internet, wordpad, MS Word etc the lines get all mixed up. Say I typed 3 sentences, the last sentence Im writing will go to the top or a few words will for some reason go in the middle of the paragraah or the beggining without me doing anything!Ive been having problems with my laptop for a while now. Usually the errors not being able to open anything on my desktop, so what I do is I take out the battery leave it for a while and it usually works. Ive ussed CCleanup, Malwarebytes, and avast

I have speed dial set as my start page. I've got 9 sites on Speed Dial. I don't use custom pics, although I do use a custom skin.Every now and then when opening Opera, it 'freezes' at the Speed Dial tab for 3-7 secs before displaying all tabs/windows. When it 'freezes', all tiles are the + symbol and are blank.Once it 'unfreezes', all is normal. It seems to happen sporadically upon a new start. Once the browser is open, the issue does not reoccur. It's been going on for the last 3 weeks to a month - same version, same skin.Basically, one day it just started happening without any changes to the browser. Prior to this, it loaded instantly 100% of the time.I've cleared cookies/cache the normal way and it's still happening. I've culled a few sites from speed dial without a positive result.
I can check Windows 7 64 bit to see what the problem is? I have Opera 12 installed on 2 other computers (one with Windows 7 64 bit and the other w/XP) and the browser opens within seconds. The delay is only happening on the wife's computer. I changed no settings on Opera when I installed the upgrade to 12 so I am guessing it is the PC that is causing the painful delay. I un-installed it twice, installed it once to her SSD and then again on her HDD and there was no change in the startup delay-it is driving me crazy.
After I went on holiday, all my browsers stopped working.IE and chrome just dont start at all, and Firefox and SeaMonkey(I even tried that one!) give me the error that the Microsoft Registry Server stopped working.Opera is the only one that still works, but I can't get comfortable with it.Firefox Safe mode does work, only when I choose to delete all my data of Firefox(all settings, bookmarks, saved passwords and cookies) normal Firefox starts, only for 2 times when I have to do it all over again. They all stopped right after my holiday, and I didn't change anything.I've already tried reinstalling chrome and firefox several times, clearing all data for IE, restoring to a previous point, but nothing seems to work.
Computer -> properties:
This is all on my desktop, I've entered all specs I know in my profile.
All the .exe files on my friend's laptop try to open with itunes and all the icons on her desktop show up as .lnk Adobe files! I tried to upload malwarebytes from both a flash drive and then a cd, but her laptop corrupted those too. Itunes is the only .exe file that will open. I do not have the "open with" option on .exe files. Please!!!! I know how to edit registry a little (going in at c prompt), but I don't know what I'm looking for. Again, I will have to enter everything manually--- I cannot download from internet or upload from external source?
Since WinXP I have a problem when I want to re-assign a file extension to another application (=the program which should be used when double clicking on a certain file in WinExplorer). This problem appears particularly when the old, current application is NOT existing any more! [code] So again is there a real easy way/tool of re-assigning file extension to new programs regardless of what crap stuff is currently existing in Registry for that file extension?
