Aug 13, 2012When I type in Word 2010, frequently my keyboard will refuse to type. It will type a couple letters and then I have to wait to get it to go on. Then it will type a few more, etc. Another time it will type without an issue.I have changed the battery.

Jul 23, 2012I found a few pix in my files that I want to edit with Photoshop. I can't open them in PS because they are Type 1 or Type 2. When I try to open them, PS says they are .jpg.1 or. jpg.2. How do I get rid of the .1 and .2 so they become normal JPG photo files?I can look at them with Windows Photo Viewer but I can't figure out how to convert them to normal JPG files.

Sep 3, 2012When trying to open programs task box opens up and ask for the exe extension for programs. I have tried to using the Internet Explorer program highlighted but it does nothing. It asks if i want to run or save the exe extension for the program. Tried both and nothing works.
Also tried to restore computer from and earlier date, get an error message that says "System cannot start."

Jul 5, 2012I am rinning Windows 7 x64 home premium and I have been cleaning out my old cd'sI have an old win95 generations deluxe genealogy cd which will not setup in any mode on this computer. there is an social security death index set of 2 cds and I do not want to pitch it. I can mount and view it/them but not use them. The internals of the isos/cds are in .car file extensions and I cannot open these archives as I can not find a car archive r that will run on Windows 7 x64. and no 7zip or winrar or winzip will not open them. they are essentially they are text converted to database and compressed. does anyone know how to get these open so I can either use them or recreate them in another database program.

Jun 27, 2011All the .exe files on my friend's laptop try to open with itunes and all the icons on her desktop show up as .lnk Adobe files! I tried to upload malwarebytes from both a flash drive and then a cd, but her laptop corrupted those too. Itunes is the only .exe file that will open. I do not have the "open with" option on .exe files. Please!!!! I know how to edit registry a little (going in at c prompt), but I don't know what I'm looking for. Again, I will have to enter everything manually--- I cannot download from internet or upload from external source?

Feb 2, 2012I have searched all over the Internet looking for how to associate certain extensions with certain programs using a .bat file... but no luck. I have spent about two hours experimenting. I'm able to do this from the command prompt: Code: ASSOC .cpp=C++_Source_Code FTYPE C++_Source_Code=E:Notepad2.exe %0 I created a small hi.cpp file to test this. It works perfectly. The command line is E:Notepad2.exe E:hi.cpp just like it should be.
However, doing the same thing from within a batch file yields the command line E:Notepad2.exe E:assoc.bat which opens my batch file when i double-click on hi.cpp... Is it even possible to perform this association from within a batch file? I have a LOT of different file types to register, and i don't want to spend 20 minutes every time i log on associating these extensions by hand.

Aug 10, 2009I've made the move (fresh install on new HDD) from XP to Win7RC x64 (I never gave Vista a look) and I want to scan my old HDD partitions for *.xls;*.doc;*.dwg;*.jpg etc to make sure I haven't missed any old files which were not saved in the right place.
The two partitions are mounted as F: and G:
In XP once you'd turned off the animated dog and chosen the advanced option, you could set "all of part of the filename" to "*.xls;*.doc;*.dwg;*.jpg" and "look in" to "f:;g:". It was a so easy
I can't seem to get Windows 7 to search for more than one file extension, let alone multiple drives as well. Is there an advanced search option which I've missed?
Program To Batch Remove .bak File Extensions?
Sep 3, 2011I used an Mp3 renaming program which I know cant remember and I stopped it midway through as I didnt know if it was doing what I wanted, I had set it up to remove numbers from the beginning of files, and it added a .bak extension to almost all of my files and now I need to get them off. I have since removed the program before I noticed that and I was wondering if anyone knew of a program or script that would allow me to batch remove the extensions.

In Windows XP this wasn't a problem, no matter what format the file had, the numbering would continue anyway. In Windows 7 the numbering starts over again when a file has a different filetype format.
For example:
WINDOWS XP:
file (1).jpg
file (2).mov
file (3).wma
Windows 7:
file (1).jpg
file (1).mov
file (1).wma
file (2).jpg
file (2).mov
file (3).jpg
file (4).jpg
I want the numbering to continue in Windows 7... (Not have multiple number ones or two's)

In windows explorer, if I select files with different extensions (for example two files, one txt and one pdf) and right click to bring up the context menu, I noticed that the entry "Open" is missing. Instead if I select files with the same extension, the entry "open" is correctly displayed. What I want to do is to get the "open" command in the context menu even if I select files of different type. Is there a way to do that without having to write my own shell extension handler?

Oct 26, 2012My ram is always using 1.7-1.8 GB even when nothing is running.I disabled windows search, all the windows media extensions, still nothing.I'm going to run a virus scan after I post this (just in case) but I have no programs running beyond chrome at this moment, CPU usage is fine but it won't drop below 1.8 GB of Ram being used. It used to idle down to nothing.Could this be caused by a dirty laptop vent (asus repuplic of gamers so it's got large vents but it has gotten noticeably louder recently so could heat cause ram usage?

After about an hour of trying and several restarts (and my primary and secondary monitors switching for some reason), I could put the password in Once in Windows I found there was a keyboard issue: I was only typing the occasional special character (an accented i was one:) . Trying to type a test email I had the i-cursor available in the header (title-box) but not the body, even the special characters could not be typed in the main body. For some reason I picked up my pen tool, moving this over the email body produced a �control/Alt yellow box prompt next to the pen cursor pressed these keys, now all is fine

Have a friend with a new Toshiba Core i5 on which he has MS Office 2003 Professional fully installed, including PowerPoint. Three weeks ago, he complained that he could not open .pps files attached to e-mails, so he brought the computer to me. I opened the file associations subroutine, found .pps in the list of extensions, and ultimately (tha'ts another whole story) got MS PowerPoint registered as the default program to open such files.Today he claimed he got another e-mail with a .pps attachment, and could not open it, so brought the computer to me again. I don't know why he wasn't able to open it, because I called up the e-mail, clicked the .pps attachment and it opened perfectly. However, I opened the /Default Programs/Set Associations list and scrolled down to see what the .pps entry said was the current default.
