OpenService Strange Characters 1060 Error Message?
Dec 23, 2011
I am nicknaming it 'the creature from another planet'...but seriously, what the heck is this thing? I have run everything under the sun and cannot get it to stop popping up on my desktop when I boot up after shutting down.it doesn't show up when I come out of sleep mode.CindeI forgot to mention that it is also on my status bar until I click on the 'x' to delete it each time.

I recently bought a new Asus laptop with Intel I5, Windows 7 Home Premium Edition 64 bit installed. Using Microsoft Office 2003 Professional, I get intermittent errors while typing. Mostly with the? key and the ' key. Occasionally it will show a peculiar character and the only way I can avoid it is to find another ? I typed in the document prior to the error and cut and paste it in.I also updated to Office Professional Edition 2010 with the same results.

I seem to have a unique fault on my Windows 7 install.
Upgrading from XP
Spec: AMD Dual-core 3gig, 4 gb RAM, WD 500GB primary HDD, ATI gfx
So - downloaded and installed Windows 7 from a memory stick.
Installed apparently ok.
Re-booted - came up with the "popular" NTOSKRNL.exe missing/corrupt error.
Re-copied various files; hal.dll, ntoskrnl.exe etc as directed on various sites - no joy.
Thinking it could be a MBR fault and not being familiar with Vista/Windows 7 I stuck in my old XP install CD to use Fdisk.
With the XP install CD in the drive, Windows 7 boots perfectly! (Doesn't even attempt to load XP install/repair)
Take out CD - NTOSKRNL error.
Once in Windows 7 - everything works fine.
Looking at various other options, came acorss a couple of tips about BCD and bootrec such as:
How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows Recovery Environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows
Error message when you start Windows Vista: "The Windows Boot Configuration Data file is missing required information"
Bootrec used to say the only OS was C:Windows.old.00
Ran fixes as above - now says there are no OS installed.
Windows 7 repair console only finds Windows 7 OS
Am starting to go insane.
To summarise:
Recieve NTOSKRNL.exe error when booting up PC
Boots Windows 7 fine with WinXP install disk in drive
Bootrec finds no OS
Windows 7 repair finds Windows 7

just installing RTM of Windows 7 to trial until my copy gets here. Hmm having a strange problem, i have installed os first time, after about 3 days, i get the read disc error on startup. (no safemode / F8 option).
now this has happened 2 more times after i had reinstalled. all about 5 days apart (multiple restarts and shutdown) i can't seem to find the source of the problem.
in the repair setup of the Windows 7 disc, i have done a startup repair, and it couldn't find any problems, "os loaded successful" log produced.
now if i use cmd and bootrec.exe /osscan on my c:/
it says zero OSs installed/found
although windows does detect it within the repair utility and when loading sata drivers.
what gives? what am i doing wrong? and why would it do this every few days after i reinstall the OS. its weird. Harddrive has been tested, no bad sectors, all scans of disc complete successful. is it the BCDmanager? and how do i edit that at boot?
bootrec.exe /fixboot and the other options do not work! also i does seem like my other drive letter have changed in boot CMD, however the os partition is still C:/ any ideas?

[code]...
So i come to you guys as a last result after spending large amounts of time and money trying to, troubleshoot my own issue. Before i dive into details, im 95% sure that my issue is caused by overheating, i just dont know what and why.As of roughly 3-4 months ago i began having issues with my computer randomly shutting off while playing high intensity games (BF3 on medium which caused my HD5670/CPU to run at ~90-100% capacity). It wouldnt blue screen it would just turn off. Upon shutting down it wouldnt boot for between 15 minutes to even 4-5 hours (where i would pull the whole thing apart in exasperation and upon putting it back together it would boot). So over the next few months i did the following in an attempt to fix/stop the issue (dot pointed so you guys dont TLR)

I have already reported to Sony to but i heard their take their time but thats the one thing what i dont have at the moment so i know many people here know about that stuff to. So anyway. Some time ago SP1 launched for Windows 7. I installed but it but something went it wrong and it didn't install correcly and then i was forced to use System restore. Everything worked and i haven't used SP1 because i don't want to risk screwing up my computer before some important things, i got plenty of time later for that . The problem is after the system restore every time Vegas launches i get a error : Sony Vegas pro 10 an error occurred starting Vegas Pro Error 0x80070002 (message missing).

I can't find anything on this and all 501/505 message posts are related to Windows XP not 7. But, I have a 501/505 error message in my Windows 7. Funny thing, it is a problem with all my browsers (IE and Firefox) and I cannot access any website with the www. prefix. Urls without this prefix works fine. The only thing I can think of is that I downloaded and installed a Java update yesterday. Did this cause the 501/505 error problem? I also tried following the steps recommended by Microsoft for XP [URL]

Whenever I boot up my computer, I get a message that says
"There was a problem starting 3DLCXtime.dll The specified module could not be found"
The box has an 'OK' button and an x in the top right, I just hit 'OK' and the box goes away and doesn't bug me, but I wish to have it stop, since it kinda worries me that it may be a larger problem that may slowly get bigger.

I keep getting a window with this error; when I close the window it simply reappears: "Application Error" Exception EListError in module en.cpl at 00013BF2, List index out of bounds (0)." It didn't appear after I tried opening any specific program, it just appeared randomly. Is this a virus? How do I stop this?
