Sep 14, 2011I just got a new Samsung RC420 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium edition OS. When I was installing a software last night, a message pops up and tells me I cannot continue installation until I close a certain program (in this case it was Adobe Updater, which was not opened at all).Today, I am trying to open "my briefcase" from a USB thumb, but a message pops up telling me I cannot open "my briefcase" as it appears a file in it is already open. But nothing else is open on my computer. It was my first time opening anything from the USB thumb.

Dec 7, 2011I took out my Windows 7 boot drive and put it inside of a USB enclosure and when I try and go to my profile, I can't open Users folder on other computer. I don't have an administrator account on this other computer. Is there any way to open up the folder? It just says access denied when I try and open it up on a windows xp computer with no ADMIN privileges (I can't get admin on this computer).
On a XP computer that has admin it opens fine. I figured since I actually wasn't using the OS that was on the drive I wouldn't have any trouble reading any folders on it (but I guess that because it's NTFS there are more security measures, unlike FAT32 which would let anybody read anything). Would I just need to open up the folder on a computer with admin and then copy the things over while I still have admin.
Process Cannot Access / File Because It Is Being By Another Process
May 3, 2012I am getting this error all the time with Windows 7. I open a text file I want to edit, then go to save my changes and I get this error:"The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process".I have full admin rights, running Win7 Ultimate x64 SP1. From a bit of research I have seen where many others have been experiencing this problem or something similar too. The only "fix" (that doesn't work all the time) is to close explorer.exe and then restart it to "release the handle"? Anyway, this is not acceptable for all the money and time I spent upgrading/configuring this new OS from XP -where I never had this problem- and seriously cuts down my productivity.Has Microsoft even acknowledged this as a bug yet? I can duplicate this scenario the second or third time I try to edit/save/delete a text file and I know that explorer.exe is the problem or a big part of it in any case. I don't want to go back to XP x64 but having to deal with this headache 10-20 times a day is just too much to ask.The file here is a game's map script & has to be saved to a .pk3 and then loaded into the program's root before it can run so i know othing else is running the file. No apps running in taskmngr either.

Jun 9, 2012I had this problem a couple days ago. As the title says "I can't open any folder". I don't get any error message at all when I try opening the folder. I even tried "right-clicking then Open" and it still doesn't open. The only thing that when I try opening the folder is. The folder does appear at the bar on bottom of the screen flashing that it has opened but the window does not pop up. Also when I try clicking on the minimized folder on the bar (sorry I can't think of the name of the bar at the bottom of the screen). When I click it, I see the window flash by but it goes to the right side of the screen but it is not in view of the monitor screen. I also can't access My Computer,Downloads,Documents,or any type of folder. I also tried some registry fixes I found on google but no luck at all.

Mar 18, 2011Windows 7 x64Intel i7 860 Lynnfield4GB RAMI've got a .mkv file and a .nfo file in a folder with no other files or folders. On a clean boot, I've got ~2390MB of free memory. As soon as I open this folder, the memory in use begins to climb and within 60 seconds I've lost all of my free RAM. Once it maxes out, performance falls off a cliff and typically ends with me doing a hard reset.I used the resource monitor to track this, and the bizarre thing is there doesn't seem to be any process actually using up any memory. All of the processes listed there in the memory tab keep just about the same amount of memory in use (looking at committed, working, shareable and private).If windows boots in Safe Mode, the issue is not reproduced.I can open the video and the video plays.<edit>If I open the video from the recent history within the Media Player Classic, it will play and does not take up my memory</edit>What do you think?

Nov 9, 2012New dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.

Now when I double click any folder it just docks in the taskbar but doesn't open. I click on the folder on the task bar but nothing happens!! Right-clicking only gives options for Windows Explorer (even that doesn't open and behaves as the normal folder does), unpin this folder from the taskbar, and close the folder.

When I am done downloading anything through torrent (and no, I am talking legit files here), I can't move them to anywhere else, when I chose to cut them out and paste in new location it says it can't move the folder/file because it is open in another program. Only solution I found is to kill and restart explorer.exe, but program comes back after just a couple of minutes. Even if torrent program is closed as well.

Dec 27, 2011I have THE Music Folder located in Libraries and inside this Folder i have another Folder called All Music that no matter what i do, i cannot open the damn thing. It's not locked, It's not restricted, I've tried right clicking on it and doing Open. I've tried doing Open in New Window. I've tried Deleting the damn thing and then Restoring it.
I don't even get an error. It just simply sits there. Yet i can open every other Folder on my Computer. Except this ONE Folder.

I have Windows 7 Home Premium x64, My Virus Scans are up to date and so are my Computer Updates. I've closed all Programs and tried opening it, too.
This isn't "Super" important. I'm more concerned that there's something wrong with my hard-drive than the actual Music (although there's over 700 Songs in this one Folder..)
