Office Home Use - Installed 6 Mo. Ago, Now Getting Error 0xC004F074?
Aug 23, 2012
I purchased a license and installed Microsoft Office through my work's Home Use Program in February. It has worked without issue until recently. The other week, I started getting a Microsoft Office Activation Wizard any time I open an Office document. At the bottom of the Wizard window, it lists Error 0xC004F074 and has a countdown timer that now says I have "2 days left to activate. Ensure you are connected to your corporate network to enable automatic activationhis is my home computer that has never been connected to the corporate network.I do not recall the HUP being a trial, six-month license only.

when I booted up my computer, I got a message saying "You're copy of windows is not genuine". So now the back of my desktop is black and says "Windows is not genuine". So then I downloaded the update from microsoft. Now so when I try to enter my key I get the error "0xC004F074 The Software Protection Service reported that the computer could not be activated. No Key Management Service (KMS) could be contacted. Please see the Application Event Log for additional information." So I ran my AVS and found quite a few threats and removed them. But still I get that error.

I'm trying to install NeatScan to Office. When I run the setup.exe, it says it's extracting to Office.msi then gives an error, "Office version 2003 or higher must be installed to use NeatScan to Office."I've tried running it in compatibility modes (tried several) & nothing works.

I am running Windows 7 and have Office XP installed on my machine.
Do I have to or rather should I install MS updates for Office 2007? For instance KB. Im not sure because I do not have the suite installed. But given that these are security updates I want to be sure.

My husband bought Office 2007 HUP (Home Use Program) in March 2010 but our Home PC was not suitable to install it on. We now (finally) have a new PC with Windows 7 on it and want to install Office 2007 on the new PC. We have the Product Key and the official Office Enterprise 2007 backup disc. None of this has been used yet.The purchase confirmation email is on our old PC (in Outlook) and I don't want to click on the link to install it on that PC. Plus, I don't have internet access on that old PC. I realize Office 2007 is technically out of date now, but this is the software that we have at the moment. How can I get this Office 2007 installed on our new PC?To use the link in the email, how can I get that message from the old PC to the new PC so as to be able to click on the link in the new PC?Can I simply install Office 2007 on the new PC from the official backup disc that we received from Microsoft?

I am running Office 2010 Pro on Windows 7 Home premium. No problems for months. Now needed to hook on new network. Printing is fine in all programmes in Office and others (Thunderbird, Chrome, Foxit Reader, etc...). All except in Excel. The programme (Excel) does not see the printer, or when it does it does not let the printer be chosen.Printers are all Kyocera or Brother, but different models.

I have been having bad luck with hard drives lately. The original WD drive in my Windows 7 i7 PC died about a month ago as a result of a brief power failure in my area. My local shop installed another WD (500TB) unit which seemed to have issues from the start (failed the WDC test utilities). So I wanted to pulse the community to see what the current story is on HD's and reliability. I have read a number of posts about quality problems with WDC but I used to see lots of posts about problems with Seagate. So what to do? Which brand or model should I be looking at to get a decent drive that won't die in a few months? This is simply for a home office desktop running Office 2010 apps and typical web browsing. I'd spend a little extra for higher reliability. Screaming performance is not really an issue.

I have tried everything under the sun to get my MS Office working (2010 Home & Business). This is the third time I have had such issues with it. The first two times it miraculously worked on it's own. This time it seems to be dead for good.
When I try and open office it just stays at the "starting" box and doesn't go any further. I am unable to open it via winword.exe either.
I am able to open it in safe mode, but when I try and save a file it just freezes my computer, same if I also try and close the program.
I have attempted a repair and an uninstall and neither work, they just get to half way and hang (for hours.) I have done a "clean boot" I have tried to restore my system to a point when MS was working but I get some 0x8007005 error saying a virus protection may be in the way. I disabled the virus scan and it still occurred. (I am using Avira Anti Virus)
Something else to note, I also have open office & PDF Complete and they are also freezing in the same manner as MS Office.
My question is; Does anyone else have some possible solutions for my problem or is a complete system over hall in the midst?

Dell Inspiron w/Win 7. MS Office worked fine this week. On 1/22/12 I contacted Dell re: blue screen problem. Tech said it was because my computer was running too slowly and he did cleanup, etc. Then he installed System Mechanic and told me it would solve problems. Had even more problems so contacted Dell last Sunday (1/29/12) and THAT tech told me System Mechanic should never have been installed because it conflicts with my anti-virus and told me to uninstall which I did 1/30/12 after conv. w/Dell about refunding my money.Discovered my AV had not updated at all during the week. Contacted Total Defense today...spent 4 hours w/him to uninstall/reinstall and get it working.NOW none of the MS office programs work. All say they're not installed, but they are there in the program files. Tried to reinstall from CD...quit half way through and said it could not finish installation. I used Excel during the week so I know it was working after System MEchanic install but do not know if the uninstall of that or the changes the AV tech made are responsible

I'm using MS Office 2003 SP3 with Windows Home Premium 64-bit, and I've noticed that both Excel and Word crash a lot. Certain keystroke combinations result in this more than others - e.g. Ctrl+V or Ctrl+C between cells in Excel.I think this problem occurs for me on every 2 out of 3 Excel session, so it is very very frequent.

I clicked on Microsoft office 2007 Home & student edition. It displayed "The version of this file is not compatible with the version you're running (Windows 7 premium). Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86(32-bit) or x64(64-bit) version of the program, then contact the software publisher". I checked the version and it was 32 bit (under Program X86). The problem was the application (Microsoft word 2007) worked last night, until the windows update 7 has caused the application to become incompatible. Is there a way to correct the error?

I use MS Word a lot. Whenever I want to do anything with my saved Word items, I click on Documents, click on my Word item I want and it opens up. Since I upgraded to Office Home and Student 2010, when I click on the Word item I want, a window opens up and asks me what program I want to use to open it up, 'Notepad' or 'Wordpad'. I want neither. I just want it to open up like it did before I upgraded.
