Nvidia 9600M GT Dual Display Problem
Jul 11, 2009
I have an Nvidia 9600M GT on my laptop and driver 186.03
The problem is, there is no option in my Nvidia control panel to select whether I want the mouse to go to the external display via the left side of my screen or the right side. It always was on the right side, but suddenly its on the left.
Any ideas?

I ordered a laptop with the 512 nvidia geforce 9600M Gt, but didn't check what games it should be able to run. Is it a good graphics card? good enough to play grid with graphics on high?

I just installed Windows 7 Professional x64 yesterday, and It will not recognize my 512MB Nvidia GeForce 9600M GT hardware. Therefore I am unable to install any drivers, as it does not recognize the hardware at all. Is there a fix for this or will I have to wait until HP officially recognizes windows 7, and releases a guide?

I recently updated my OS to windows 7 64 bit ultimate edition on my HP, with nvidia 9600m gt. I installed the driver from the nvidia website, the 186.81. It seemed to be working okay, but suddenly after a couple of hours the screen just started to go black then come back and i would get this message.
Does any one know what this means ? and how i can fix it ?

Is there any way I can force 1920 * 1200 (or 1080) resolution, using this hardware: Fujitsu Scaleo L22-1W display and GeForce 9600M GT GPU. Native resolution for this display is 1680 * 1050 at 59 Hz.
I am building a HTPC system using a spare HP Pavilion dv7 laptop, basically the same specs than those I've listed in my system specs. I would like to use it with two displays, the mentioned L22-1W and and a full HD plasma TV from laptops HDMI out, desktop duplicated not extended, laptops own display disconnected because this GPU allows max two displays at the same time.
Problem is this duplicated desktop. This GPU allows a FullHD resolution ONLY when a HDMI device is the only display connected, or when multi display settings are on extended desktop. If I choose duplicate desktop, it allows the HDMI device resolutions only up to the max of that second display, in this case 1680*1050.
If this is not possible, I'll buy a new display with FullHD resolution. I just want first to test if I could make this system from spares I already have.

Windows 7 64 turns off the monitor 1 signal after startup. At login, it powers off monitor 1 and powers on monitor 2. Windows 7 behaves as though dual display is working even though monitor 1 does not display. It's the same for single display, the monitor will not work on cable 1 except at startup. Both 'Extend these displays' in Windows Screen Resolution and 'Extend' in the Nvidia Control Panel is selected. And changing which one is primary does not turn on monitor 1. Nor does switching the position of display 1 in either (ex.left/right/top/bottom).GeForce 8400 GS; Dual Monitor Solution 59 pin (DMS-59) to 2 VGA adapter -tried two of these adapter cables.atest Driver: 306.23 - installed a clean reset install of the latest Nvidia driver released last week.Same Resolution: 2 of the 4 monitors I have tried have the exact same 'recommended' resolution (1280X 1024), both 60Hz, and even chose 16 bit color for both instead of 32 to reduce resources.
Linux worked: Dual display worked immediately when I tried it in Ubuntu 10. So, it's not the hardware. It works in Ubuntu 12 too but not properly -it won't transfer windows across displays. My Windows 7 64 is an upgrade from Vista 64. One person in another forum with the same problem resolved theirs by reinstalling Windows 7. But another got the same problem only after a fresh clean install of Windows 7 64 with the same GeForce 8400 GS and DMS-59 when it had previously worked in Vista. I recently installed windows 7 ultimate and i have some serious issues with it.
at first when i installed it, and it booted for the first time into windows i got the BSOD everytime, only way i got passed it was to boot up with driver certification disabled. i was finally able to boot into windows 7.
First thing i noticed was that everything responded very slow, if i clicked the start button it took up to 5 seconds for it to respond. still everything acts very slow.
so after a while i got the error "display driver nvidia windows kernel mode driver 195.39 stopped responding and has recovered succesfully"
so my screen starts to flicker black, and i get the BSOD once in a while. I can't run the performance test because my system freezes up. i tried upgrading/downgrading nvidia drivers, installed direct x disable aero and so on, ive done alot of research on the web but i can't find any solutions to it.

I recently installed an Nvidia Quadro CX card under Windows 7 (risky, I know). Although I'm using the latest drivers from Nvidia, I can't get the second monitor to display through the displayport-to-DVI adapter.
I can swap cables all day long and each monitor works fine with the DVI connector; it's just that nothing is detected when plugged into the second output (displayport).
Has anyone else run into this problem with Windows 7 build 7000?

I have a PCchips A13G+ motherboard generic PC with an NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405 card in one of the slots. This configuration allowed me to have a desktop covering both monitors running XP. Since I tried Vista, then Windows 7 RC1, I have only been able to get one of the monitors going at a time. Whichever one I tell the Bios to activate first, is the one that comes up. The other one is not detected.
It looks like there are many other examples of dual monitor setups failing under Windows 7 and Vista which worked fine under XP. 've got all the latest drivers from NVIDIA and all the updates from the Windows updates site. Any ideas? Seems like Microsoft wants us to pay extra for reduced functionality. Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.

I recently got a projector from a friend and im trying to setup dual screen.
First of all im a bit confused by the Graphics Card itself. I looked for pictures of the card which my computer recognizes as a nVidia GeForce 8500 GT and none have a HDMI port but mine does. So i opened the case and the card has ATI and Foxconn written on it but nothing with nVidia on it.
I have a HDMI to VGA cable which im trying to use to go to my monitor but when i plug it in while switched on i get nothing on the monitor but the projector still works and if i plug it in then boot I get no output on my monitor and just just a black screen and the mouse pointer on my monitor.
I have no idea what to do. Any suggestions ?

I was attempting to install the display driver when I received this error message from Windows Update: "WindowsUpdate_80070006" "WindowsUpdate_dt000"
I searched Google and only found 7 results with no solutions. I attempted to get the drivers from the nVidia website and it informed me that I needed to get the drivers from my computer's manufacturer (HP)-so I went there. The only thing offered on my particular notebook's support page was an update for the Wireless Assistant.
Has anyone else encountered an error when installing nVidia drivers on their laptop or received that particular error from Windows Update?

I'm on a Sony Vaio laptop with a second monitor connected with a VGA cable. I just switched from Vista to Windows 7 and my second 22" monitor is not being recognized under the resolution screen. It worked perfectly fine on vista just hours prior. I tried hitting the detect button, reconnecting the monitor, and restarting. What am i doing wrong?
It might be my graphics card, im pretty sure i have a nvidia geforce 7200m gt. cant seem to find drivers for it anywhere. My computer keeps telling me all my drivers are up to date, yet my second monitor is still not recognized. this doesn't make sense. Should i just go back to vista?

I'm running windows 7 and my geforce 8400GS graphics card. I'm trying to duel screen using a siemens LL 3220T monitor and a Acer X223HQ monitor. The Siemens is connected via the VGA port and the Acer is connected via the DVI with a converter plugged in allowing the VGA monitor to connect to the DVI port. The problem is the Acer monitor doesn't work! Windows doesn't detect it at all! I can rule out hardware issues because when I run ubuntu using the exact same set up both monitors work perfectly well! I tried downloading the newest drivers for my Nvida card but still no success. The monitor doesn't show up as being connected on any of my settings!

Is there something built into Windows 7 that will do a screen saver of a library of photos, yet use *both* displays to show multiple photos? There are a couple in there, but they only seem to work on the primary display. Is there a way to enable multiple displays for these?
I have a nice 3rd party app I purchased in the XP days that does this, but was wondering if there was a way to get 7 to do it natively.

I have an external monitor, actually a TV connected via S-Video cable coming out of the back of my video card. My TV is my second desktop. All of that is fine. The problem comes in when I log off or "switch users" (there are no other user profiles on my computer - I only log off or switch user to make sure the kids can't get on without my permission - they don't know my logon code), the TV loses the picture and goes grainy, but when I log back in, the TV does not "kick in" again. The only way to get the TV to display the second desktop after logging out or switching users seems to be to restart the computer entirely. If it reboots, it picks up the TV as second monitor again.
If you simply log in again, it does not pick up the TV as second monitor. Is this related to some setting that says the TV should only be the second monitor on the admin's account and not for "all users" or something? It is annoying to always be restarting my computer to watch a video on my TV. By the way, in all cases, the "Display" settings in control panel show the TV as the second monitor. But looking at the actual TV, all you see is a grainy screen that obviously is not being fed any clear signal.

I've got a problem with installing drivers for GeForce 9600M GT. I've installed windows 7 build 7264 x86, and after installation my display adatper is Standard VGA. This's a bit strange becouse when i have a beta 7000, and 7100 it automatically goes for windwos update and get correct drivers.
I've downloaded latest drivers from Nvidia (186.03) but it wont install with message that it cant find drivers for my hardware.
I've tried nvidia auto scannig, with no result. Also tried installing drivers manually with update driver, and uninstalling standard vga drivers in safe mode, but after restart it automatically install standard vga drivers even in safe mode...
I have MSI Gx630 Laptop.

I have a dual head setup that works ok. My issue though is that whenever I do a reboot, I have to go into display resolution settings and re-enable "extend" displays.
Is there a way to make this persistent? It's just annoying doing a reboot and having to spend time re-organizing your desktop every time.

I have a strange problem with 2 displays connected to my ATI HD4770 Video Card running the latest 10.12 drivers and AMD Control Center.
I have 2 displays connected to the card.
The display 1 (Samsung Syncmaster 225BW) runs at 1680 x 1050 and is the Main display with the Windows 7 Start Menu.
The display 2 (Phillips Brillance 230W) runs at 1920 x 1200. Physically it is located on the left side of display one.
I arrange the display either by using the Display / Screen Resolution Control Panel Applet or the Catalyst Control Center Desktops & Displays Applet.
Both works fine (drag display 2 to the left side of display 1, chance resolution from 1680 x 1050 to 1920 x 1200.
But when I restart my machine, after the reboot has finished and the desktop appears, my display settings are exactly as before the reboot.
But when Catalyst Control Center loads, it switches the display and reduces the resolution of the bigger one to that of the smaller main display.
Every time I have to manually restore my custom display settings (Arrangement, different resolution) Is there someone in Windows 7 forum which is expert for ATI and CCC running multiple displays in handling those glitches?
