Not Staying Aasleep In Sleep Mode
Mar 14, 2012
Something odd is happening with the new rig ive built. It is working flawlessly on a clean install of Windows 7 HP 64bit aside from one rather annoying issue: when i put it into sleep mode, after a few minutes it wakes back up again.things ive tried to rule out so far:Its not the mouse. If i put into sleep mode i can wiggle the mouse (its corded and into usb) to my hearts content but it wont wake it up.

I've got a problem with my laptop - it won't sleep. Specifically, when I try and make it sleep, the screen turns off and I cannot interact with it at all - but the computer just keeps going. All the activity lights stay on, and while I can't see or do anything, the computer stays on and will not sleep, leaving me with no choice but to manually force shutdown. Sometimes if I leave it like this for a while, it will simply crash and shut down incorrectly. I have gone into the power-plan settings and checked my advanced settings, but that hasn't worked. It's just come on in the last few days, but I haven't installed anything new in that time. I'm going to try a system restore now, but I don't hold much hope for it.
(I'm using a Samsung R530, 32-bit Windows 7, Intel Pentium.)

I use win 7 home premiun and everytime my computer wakes up from sleep my the taskbar stays stuck for 1-2 minutes. I have downloaded a a program called process explorer to see what is running in windows explorer. I used a option in process explorer called kill the process on the programs that are running but it doesn't do anything.

power off and unseat the video card, re-seat it, and power back up...
Windows 7 pro Intel Core i7 870 Processor ATI FirePro V4800 Motherboard GA-P55A-UD3Without doing the above steps, just get black video screen
Would this be a software issue, problem with motherboard or video card?

I bought a new notebook running windows 7 64 bit a couple of months ago After running a full system scan with Kaspersky anti-virus a couple of days ago I now have a bug with sleep mode - After going into sleep mode, the user with my picture icon is locked meaning that I can't enter my password to log back in - the password box doesn't show. With the ASUS face recognition scanner I'm logged back in, but everything is 'buggy' e.g. if I click on the start button and hover over that entire area it goes into sleep again, or if i click on the bookmarks on chrome it doesn't show them, instead it click on an actual site within the bookmarks. After going into sleep the only way to enter and return to a normal state is to click the 'switch user' whereupon, my user picture icon reverts with the password boxI have tried a system restore but this didn't work.

Since a few days my PC developed an unusual behaviour: it goes to sleep mode at random intervals ! sometimes it does that at windows start up for several times...
I had microsoft security essential installed and read on some forums that it could be the reason for this problem: I unistalled that. Then I run online scanned from ESET nd Bitdefender: all clean.
Then I installed avas free edition (as I was without any anti-virus software). Did a complete system scan with no problem. I messed up with the power consumpion settings with no results.
The only solution I could find was to use the software "Dontsleep.exe" which I found googling around: it works ! I looked up all the running services and application at windows sturtup and disabled a lot of them with no results.

So this might be the wrong place for this thread but I didnt see a computer specific section so i picked this just incase it is related to my windows. Anyway the problem i am having is that every so often, more often then not actually, when my computer hibernates from inactivity, it cannot be woken up. I click the mouse, press everything on the keyboard and nothing will happen. I even try pressing the power button yet that does nothing. The power button just keeps blinking as normal when in sleep mode. I also tried Holding down the power button, in hope to force shutdown the computer but that did not work either. The only way anything happens is if i unplug the computer and then plug it back in. Unfortunately i know thats really bad for the computer but i dont really have a choice.[CODE]In addition, i have restored my computer to factory defaults, aswell as installed all the latest drivers

After putting my computer to sleep, upon waking I receive an error code, which should be present in the dump file. I closed the error window before copy pasting it in here. I will update the post with the error information next time it happens. This only happens when putting my computer to sleep. Hibernate and shutdown do not have this problem, and I have not received any BSOD's during use. This has been happening for about 10 days. My memory set up is kind of strange. I have 2x1GB 1.8V ram and 2x2GB 2.1V ram, both DDR2, and both running at 2.0V. I didn't want to overvolt the 1.8V ones too much. The timings are slightly loosened on the 2.1V ram to match those of the 1.8V ram. I have run Memtest86 with no errors. My hard drives have also checked out fine.I have my q6600 overclocked to 3.0GHz, with a voltage increase, CPU-Z is saying it is running at 1.408V. I have run plenty of Prime95 tests. No stability problems, and temperatures are always acceptable. I have had it at this overclock for 7 months, ran at stock the previous 4-5 years. My GTX 460 is overclocked as well, always has been stable as well, with temperatures plenty low enough.

I installed 7RC a couple of months ago. Since then whenever my pc sleeps I can not wake it up. It used to wake up fine in XP. To get it going again I have to cold reboot or pull the plug. When it comes back up everything I was doing is still there, I just have to enter my password. I think I have all the settings right but if someone could run me through everything that needs to be set I'd be really grateful.

I am not savvy in this kind of stuff. My husband has a home built computer that runs our tv system with windows media center. He had to leave on a military deployment and right before he left he had to reinstall the OS. Since then the computer refuses to wake from sleep mode. I have to scram it to get it to come back up. Since we run the media center it ought to wake up to record automatically, but it isn't doing that either. I've checked all the power options but that doesn't seem to be the problem. Although, at this point, I really have no clue.

From time to time Windows 7 will not go to sleep (only the display will turn off). I have searched various forums and tried the following fixes: I have already made sure that network adapters are not allowed to wake up the computer. I typed "POWERCFG -ENERGY" in the command prompt (as administrator) and an energy report was generated, which reported this error: System Availability Requests:System Required Request The service has made a request to prevent the system from automatically entering sleep.
Requesting Service Spooler Opening task manager, I see a process running called "splwow64.exe" -- is this the spooler preventing the computer from sleeping?

To prevent my computer from going out of sleep mode by itself I have to unplug my ethernet cable, that's 1 problem but I don't really care.
The other problem is when I come out of sleep mode, my DVD player opens by itself, I close it, and it reopens.

Windows 7 is freezing in sleep mode now... I don't think it's my drivers or anything because 2 updates earlier it worked fine. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this is an RC problem, or if something is wrong with my computer. I hope not since this computer is only 2 week old... There is like nothing on it and everything downloaded has been from a disk so no viruses (well except kasperky anti-virus but I HOPE that would be clean lol).
Basically when I put it into sleep manually, I cannot get it out, and my power/reset buttons do not work, I actually need to turn off the electricity.
Oh, and it's not my screen considering I CAN turn my screen on but it goes right back into powersave mode (sleep mode). I DID force it out once, and it said no signal from the computer even though the computer is on. This leads me to believe it is the OS (or god forbid one of my parts).
I just realized something... I have on HD connected via sata cable, but I took the power away from it (I wanted to hear something). I mean is that the possible cause? I doubt it though since it's not registered as an HD due to having no power... And my sound card light is on, so I'm assuming that is still on when I put the computer in powersave mode... Maybe that's an issue?

I am still having bug and freeze problems on all of the computers that I have been testing on since the first release in November.
I am currently testing both x64 and x86 versions on 4 of my PC's and still having minor bug issues, and the major freeze problem.
I do not Just use my PC's for e-mails, browsing the web and gaming. I primarily use them for Engineering Design Work and they need lots of resources to operate efficiently. My primary Base unit is the one I do most of my work on and the Most efficient Operating system on it is Windows XP x64 (sp2) and customized. (Not the Basic install of services and registry sets).
The freeze issue is random and it happens when my PC's go into sleep mode. Some times the will wake up normally, but way to often they will not wake at all, I have to force re-boot. And no error logs related to sleep mode issues, only the E-ID 41 (forced re-boot). This has happened on all the releases from 7000 to 7127, and now 7600, the releases from 7137 to 7229 never had this problem. And this has happened on all my test PC's including Laptops and Desktops.
I have tried many changes in settings for Power Settings (Advanced), Network Adapter Settings, Monitor settings.
Ideally I want my Network Adapter to stay Active on my main box so I can access files from my other computers any time I need them, I want my HDD's to go to sleep when not in use so they will live for a while. and My Monitors to shut down when not in use.

When system goes to sleep longer than a hour and you wake it up the bottom third of the screen freezing. The top 2/3's get split like window pane a when you scroll the top 2/s's will scroll but the bottom 1/3 will remain as it was before sleep. Also the bottom third wont have any hover icon effects though icon will still work, the task work as intended. If I restart the programs the will work fine but windows has to restart for icon hover effects to work.

I just built a mini ITX HTPC in a silverstone sg06 case (Zotac H55 ITX MOBO, 4GB DDR3 Ram, 32GB SSD, and intel i3 built in intel HD graphics)All works fine and I am very happy with it. I am using XBMC for my media program and I have the Logitech Dinovo Mini Wireless keyboard.. I use the SLEEP button when I am done watching a movie and when I want to watch a movie "lets say in a few days" I quickly press any button and instantly I am in XBMC again with my movies list.Does it use alot of power? IS it dangerous to leave pc on stancby overnight..? Is it harmfull for the hardware.?I have been reading mixed reviews.

First the system specs:
Intel DX48BT2 motherboard
Intel QX9770 3.2 GHz Core 2 Extreme
Nvidia GTX 295
8GB of OCZ 1333MHz DDR3 Gold Series RAM
30GB OCZ Vertex SSD
1TB Samsung HD103UJ HDD
Windows 7 SP1 Public Beta
For two nights in a row whenever I have put my computer to sleep before I go to bed it has not been able to exit sleep mode the following morning. The screens get no signal even the the computer is on. I should note that I have hibernation disabled on this computer due to the fact that the SSD boot drive is so small and an 8GB hibernation file would be too large. Instead I enter standby. I should note that last night as I was entering sleep mode I accidentally hit a key which caused it to come right back out of sleep mode before the fans had turned off.

I restored my laptop to factory settings a few days ago using the built in Dell Backup and Recovery Manager. This isn't the first time I've done this but something happened. Now, whenever I shut down the computer using Start > Shut Down button (on the start menu) it goes into sleep mode. After the screen goes black (powers down) the actual on/off power button on the laptop continuously blinks on and off. It never used to do that before. Prior to this restore whenever I clicked Start > Shut Down button the screen would go black, everything would power down, and the laptop power button never blinked. Here's what I've checked so far:
1. The Shut Down button does say Shut Down. I right clicked the Start button > Properties > Power button action: and selected between Switch User, Log Off, Lock, Restart, Sleep, Hibernate, Shut down. The name of the button changes to whatever I select and every other option works except for Shut Down.
2. I disabled Hibernate from an elevated command prompt by typing: powercfg -h off
3. I checked Advanced Power Options and the default action for the Start menu Shut down button was showing Shut down. I opened the settings tree and selected Power Buttons and Lid > Power button action (which refers to the Start menu shut down button, not the laptop on/off power button) > Setting > and toggled through the various settings finally selecting Shut down and OKing my way back out of this dialog box. Still no joy. Whenever I click Start > Shut down button it still goes into sleep/hibernation and the laptop on/off power button blinks.
4. I checked system settings through Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do. This opens a dialog box that allows you to select what happens when the Start > Shut down button is clicked when the laptop is on battery power or plugged in. Again, these options were set to shut down but I toggled though the options, re-selected shut down, saved changes, OKed my way back out. Didn't help.
5. I checked the registry here: HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerAdvanced and verified the Start_PowerButtonAction hexadecimal value data is 2 (Switch User = 100, Log Off = 1, Lock = 200, Restart = 4, Sleep = 10, Hibernate = 40.)
6. I checked Device Manager and all devices are functioning correctly. For those devices with a "Power Managment" tab and the option to "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" I configured the devices both ways (option checked and option UN-checked.) Made no difference, laptop still shut down in sleep mode.
7. I reset BIOS to default settings.
8. All Windows updates are installed and all drivers are current.
9. I also went to Group Policy Editor (gpedit) and changed the start menu power button by making Shut Down the default option with no way to change it to anything else (user configuration > administrative template > start menu and taskbar > select: enabled > select: shut down.)
10. I've done a clean boot using msconfig. I disabled half the services, shut down the laptop, it went into sleep mode. I enabled those services and disabled the second half. Still went into sleep mode on shut down.
11. Several diagnostic tests show 100% pass with no hardware issues.
12. My last effot was to do a format/clean install (not a factory restore.) Laptop still goes into sleep mode at shut down.

After my computer wakes from sleep mode, Core#1 shoots up to 70-95% and the rest are normal (1-3% at idle). I have DPC latency check with no spikes. Updated several drivers. I did a clean reinstallation of windows home premium 64bit. Re did the latency checker again and updated the drivers again. Still noting. I have been up and down every forum and cannot get help for the life of me. I would love to have the computer wake up from sleep mode without these issues. Also, ran malwarebyes with noting, superantispyware with nothing so I guess I will rule out a virus. I ran process explorer (and another third party explorer) and it was the Deferred Call Procedure, or something like that.

I have a windows 7 pc with the a sound card capable of listening to line in sound. I currently have my att uverse box connected to my pc and my pc connected to my stereo system this way i can play my sound through both systems. While i am sure that there a is hardware specifically designed for channeling sound in this way i'm lazy and don't feel like buying them. My only problem is that I have to keep my pc on at all times for the tv sound to remain on. I was wondering if there's a way to keep audio on in sleep mode/away mode that way my computer would remain in a low power state and i would still be able to hear audio on tv.
ATT BOX ==audio== PC line in====PC line out====Stereo
The reason I did this is because i don't have a tv and have two monitors so one monitor is on a dvi switch.
