View 5 RepliesI have this red X on the connection icon in the tray but everything "appears" to be OK. Nothing is showing wrong I can find and i can surf the web just fine. One other thing that may or may not be related is Thunderbird doesn't seem to want to download my email from Gmail. I open TB and I have a blank inbox, with the spinning working thing next to "Inbox" at the top of the tab. Does not retrieve email from Gmail and if i select a local folder for email the spinning working thingy goes away.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have AT&T U-Verse with a 2Wire (3801 HGV) router. I've had the service for about a month without any issues. As of now, I am able to connect to the internet using WiFi (via my Wii, iPhone, and Laptop), but when trying to make a WIRED connection (via ethernet cable from the 2wire router directly to the PC), all I get is a yellow icon.
If I unplug the ethernet cable and plug it back it, the blue circle appears for a while, then back to the yellow error icon. In the Network and Sharing Center, I am showing my PC with a broken connection (yellow triangle) to "Unidentified Network with a broken "red X" connection the Internet. I thought maybe it was the ethernet cable, so I tried a wired connection from the router to my laptop (also running Windows 7) and it works just fine, so I've determined it must have something to do with the PC itself.
I've tried doing a system rollback, resetting the router itself, made sure the network driver on the PC was up to date and ran the test to make sure it's working properly.....all with no luck. I've tried using Windows to diagnose the problem and I get "Problems Found: Local Area Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration". What baffles me is it was working fine up until a few days ago.
Recently, I've re-imaged my computer back to factory settings. I've connected to my home's network, and everything was normal for a few days. And now, I have an odd icon in place of my wireless connection strength. I'm still connected to the internet (as I'm posting this), and I can still browse like normal. There has been some unreliability... Lately I've been monitoring my network usage with Task Manager and I'll go from the normal 1.8%-2.3% to 0% randomly, for random amounts of time. I'm not sure if the other two computers on the network share this problem, but it seems to be more with the connection itself than my laptop. I don't know what this icon is, and even though it doesn't seem to be affecting my wireless performance, I'd like to know what it is and what it means.

I was trying to link up a network computer before and it all went down hill.
I have just installed windows 7 home on my core i5 2500k machine and everything was working fine, but the windows network icon on the task bar shows I have no connection even though I am connected to the internet and everything works fine.

View 4 Replies View RelatedFor the past few days, I have been on a intermittent wireless connection. Under the wireless network icon, there's an ! mark, I tried to solve it using Microsoft diagnosis, but it didn't work. I switched off Microsoft Miniport Adapter too, didn't work as well. I Pinged my own connection using Command Prompt and the results were fine. For a limited random number of sites, I am still able to access. I tried Torrenting and it still works too.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased the Dell XPS 14z and it has been working fine, however when I take it out to work (where there's no wifi connections) a red 'x' now appears on the wifi icon in the task tray. Usually it just shows an orange star and is essentially 'pending' connections. When I try and use my BlackBerry Bold 9900 to connect using the mobile internet it says that it can't connect as the wifi radio may be off? This hasn't happened before and I've tried everything to troubleshoot it with no luck.

My network is okay and no problem on Internet and network from my 2 computer but:
1 - the icon in system tray show broken connection:
2 - in system hardware all network are okay
3 - in network preferences only 1 is present
i try to UN-install all the network, so windows recognized these at startup but nothing..
see the attachment for the icon with the exclamation mark.
Even though I have connection to the Internet and my wireless Network is active, the exclamation mark and the accompanying message remain. This morning I have been on the computer for three hours, for example, and I just made the screen shot. This condition has existed on a Toshiba laptop since "day one,' a number of months now.
The icon is of no value, if it doesn't change to "connected" when appropriate.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOn the bottom right of the desktop on Windows 76, the notification icon for internet usually shows the disconnected icon or the no access icon. I'm still connected to the internet though and when I click on the icon, it opens up to show my connection (that is working). Why is it doing this? I've tried googling it, no use. It's not really a big deal, but knowing if I'm connected without having to click on the icon is nice.

I started getting a "DNS not responding"? on my desktop. All my wireless devices work fine, and when I turn off my laptop's WiFi card and plug it into the same router it works as well.I've done some Googleing on the issue and none of what I found has helped. When I do an ipconfig on each maching, the thing I notice is that on the working laptop I have an entry for the "Connection specific DNS suffix under the "Tunnel adapter Local Area Connection", where on the desktop that's not working the suffix is blank.
