Network Storage Access Password Won't Stick
Oct 25, 2012
I have a NAS drive plugged in to my network switch along with two pcs and couple network printers etc(all wired connection)
The problem i have is that i have mapped a network drive using Z: so i have icon on desktop pointing to NAS box but every time i click it on one PC in particular it asks for username and password even though i click remember details it never will and to make it more annoying every time it launchs it opens the Z: drive explorer window (blank till i put password in) in front of password input box
All other machines i use to access drive local and remote work fine just this one
This machine is also 64bit where as others are 32 if that is relevant and all are Windows 7

I have a small home network set up with 4 PCs (1 laptop & 3 desktop). I can see all my computers in my networks but I cannot connect to one of my desktops using my laptop. All the other computers/laptops can read and transfer files without a problem except for the laptop connecting to one of the PCs.
Both the laptop and the PC that is asking for a network password are on the same version of Windows 7 Home. I have file and printer sharing enabled. All are on the same workgroup. I have firewall off and I have turned off password protected sharing yet when I try to connect or print from my laptop to the one PC it asks for a password and I can't figure out why.
This only started recently a week ago. Prior to that never had this problem and shared files/printer without a problem

I have a customer with 2 Windows 7 Professional machines on the same network we'll call them System1 and System2. System1 can see system2 ok but when we try to access system1 from system2 I get the "Enter Network Password" popup. Now the strange thing is that sometimes it works. If I futz around with it enough it will start working but eventually it comes up with this error again. I've tried everything I know and followed numerous posts on how to rectify the issue but nothing seems to work. I have the same username and password on both machines and I have "Turn off password protected sharing" selected on both machines. Everything I try has no effect.

I recently started seeing a problem on one of my laptops where all USB storage devices would mount but when I try to access them through explorer I get a warning saying the location is not accessible and access is denied. The system can see the usb device, derive the name and file system type of the volume be it a pendrive or a kindle but I cannot access the files. All of these devices work without issue on my other Windows 7 laptop.I get this regardless of being logged in with a user has administrative permissions or standard user permissions. The laptop is a DELL Latitude XT2 running Windows 7 Ultimate fully patched.

I've been through a very singular problem for the last few days.My Windows 7 suddenly become slow to make USB Mass storage devices ready to access, but this happens only the first time I connect them on my computer. If I start the computer and connect the USB Mass storage device (that was recognized a long time ago) it takes almost 1 minute to be ready for use... After that, every USB Mass storage device that I connect to the computer opens almost instantly. If I restart the computer, the same thing happens. I've tried to reinstall drivers, to disable security, looke for a service that controls it, verified the power options and verified every hardware.

I'm running Windows 7 on my Lenovo T400. I use a wireless router and a LinkSys NAS200 network storage. I'm having a hard time trying to set up backup on the net storage. It worked fine with my XP laptop. I can access the files on the net storage using my browser, so it appears that the network is working, but I haven't been able to map a network drive, and the Windows 7 backup can't find it.

I have successfully connected my two Windows7 machines via local network (Ethernet) - it worked automatically, no setup was needed. Everything is fine, for example I'm able to use a share mouse utility via the local network and control both computers with the same mouse. However once the network is swtiched on, my stick modem mobile 3G internet connection is shut down (the browser reports DNS name not resolved error). If I turn off the router the internet connection immediately returns. I tried to disable the firewall but to no avail.

Ok here's what I am trying to do.
I have two laptops one Windows 7 (7127 x64) the other XP Pro(at the moment), and a Maxtor Family Storage II Network Drive.
I have the same profile setup on all three items.
I want all of the files in my library that I have on my Windows 7 machine to be copied over to the Maxtor Network drive.
Then I want the XP machine to copy the files from the Network to its self using the Offline option in XP.
Im trying to have the Maxtor drive keep the most resent copy of any file I modify on either laptop. That way when I take one of them with me when I return to my home it will sync up with the Maxtor drive and update those files always keeping the newest copy.
I would like to do this without having to add any third party software if I can. I have been trying for days to get this to work and it fails to copy any files to any of the other drives. If someone has a link to a Tutorial or anything that would help me get this that would be great.

I have a HP Pavilion with Windows 7 Premium 64, and have my computer back up daily, with weekly system image back ups using the Windows back up utility. This backs up to a DLink DNS 323 network storage device. Last Friday my hard drive failed, and I didn't feel too bad becuase of my back ups. Yesterday after replacing the hard drive I tried using the System Repair Disc to restore the System Image, but couldn't locate anything on the network to restore. I checked with DLink support and they said this is a Windows issue. Hoping I can get some ideas how to proceed and get my data on the new hard drive. THe DLink site suggested that I try everything out before I need it to make sure it all works as planned. I would have no idea how to try out the System Repair Disc and restore the System Image without having a blank hard drive or jeopardizing the data on my current drive.

I have renamed pc's tried setting up homegroup again etc etc. Incidently I cant change the share options on any of my folders now, they are all locked to 'Nobody'.Can anyone help as it appears to have support from Microsoft for their product I'll have to pay pardon my igronance but if I sold a product with constant updates I wont charge for the support.

I've always thought of networking as one of the black arts.
4 PCs - One Vista, 2 Windows 7 Home Premium, 1 Windows 7 Ultimate. All see each other. All have appropriate folders shared.
Try accessing A from B and I get "Enter Network Password (to connect to B)". I never set one up to start with, so why is it asking me for it. How do I access/change something I never set?
Try accessing B from A - I see the PC, and the folders I want but trying to access them results in "You do not have permissionto access folder names Contact your network administrator - who he? Obviously me but I don't know what the answer is!
Trying similar things with the other two PCs in the mix results in various permutations of the same problem.
I have tried all the various links suggested through Networking and Help, but most of the actions seem to be boxes to click to make the PCs try to sort themselves out. When it fails I can't find a manual way of trying to sort it out.
Any suitable tutorials that may help? Couldn't see any.

I have reformatted and installed a minimal version of Windows 7 but have yet to stop this thing from maintaining its hold on my network. After some 20 hours a day for nearly a month, it has taken its toll on my family. My son's new laptop for Xmas is now infected too. We will fix that very soon tho. Please guide me on how to proceed with this laptop for now. They have already wiped out my bank account once.

Last night I was on the internet at home absolutely fine and my laptop automatically downloaded an update, since then I have been unable to connect to my wi-fi. I deleted the updates and was still unable to connect, so I tried to used a system recovery restore point and every one I use starts but fails to complete. So, I did a factory reset after around 8 hours of trying to sort it out today and I STILL have the same problem. I can plug in the cable to connect and my housemate is having absolutely no issues connecting and neither is my phone so now I am at a total loss what I should do to resolve this. Prior to the factory reset I was able to connect to the wi-fi but it was stating no network access/limited access and now it simply won't connect to my internet at all. It finds my full strength signal but will not connect. My drivers for the Broadcom 4313 802.11b/g/n card are the most up to date and the laptop (HP G62) says it is working fine.

Today, I managed to redecorate my bedroom; where my computer sat on top of a shaky, wooden desk. That desk is now gone, caput, and replaced by a much bigger, sturdier and prettier glass replacement. Before I dissasembled the computer to re-decorate, I was able to browse the internet at ease. There were no problems at all...However, after the new desk was setup - and all wires replaced in their correct slots, I find that I am unable to connect to the internet, or even the house's network! For the past year, I have been wired to the router using a RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC. It was plugged into an extension cord, in my room, into the Ethernet port in the back of my computer. Downstairs, it's twin was situated no less than 2 feet away from the router - plugged into the first port. Now, when I boot up the computer, the network notification presents the following message: "Unidentified Network. No network access", and sometimes presents a yellow ! next to it. So, I am reduced to typing on my mother's laptop - which has no problems connecting to the network.I am able to use the ipconfig /release command, but unable to use the /renew - it hangs in the command prompt, then tells me that the DHCP server cannot be located. The IP, beforehand, was reverted to 169.254.223.117 - before all of this, I was 192.168.0.5?

But there is no removable storage devise eject button on notification area. The USB removable Storage devise is also present on File Manager Computer left panel but again, there is no mouse right button eject option as normally with removable storage devices. I have checked in on several computers. How to understand. I don't believe that it's camera specific but Camera is Canon S95.

Logging on as guest I am getting the "windows cannot change password" warning if I try to change or remove it.On guest account using ctrl+alt+del>"change password", now I get a "access is denied" warning. The whole issue has started with me seeing a warning on Bit defender's Vulnerability module telling that the guest account has no password. I want to enable bluetooth on the laptop, but the Device Manager says it is disabled in the BIOS and to activate it with F10 on boot.. the problem is it asks for a BIOS password and I keep guessing and cant figure out what it is! Is there a simple way to reset the BIOS password or crack it? I took out the CMOS battery and waited 10 minutes, but that didnt do anything.
