Network Problem - Wrong IP Configuration

Oct 5, 2009

When i installed the windows, i had no errors, nothing whatsoever. But when i tried to go on the Internet 1st it gave me error that i am in Unidentified network, and i could see my step brothers PC on the network, and could go in that drive, copy/paste etc.. but i couldn't access Internet. I am constantly getting error with "Wrong IP Configuration."

I got no idea why i am getting this. in IPv4 properties i chose "Assign IPs by default" (or sth like that)

my network submask is 255.255.255.0,

and it assigns me submask of 255.255.0.0 , and i dont know why

Not sure about /flush or /renew in cmd, but i will try that today too..

Entered Wrong Password, Now Can't Map Network Drive

Dec 31, 2009

I have set up a Windows 7 machine that shares out a hard drive as a network share along with printers to our network. On another computer I was mapping the network drive and accidentally entered the wrong credentials (wrong user name) and choose the remember credentials setting, and it would not let me map the drive.

I tried to go back in and remap the drive again but Windows is remembering the user name/password and I can't map it. I can map the drive from any other computer just fine. Does anyone know how to make Windows forget the credentials so I can map the drive?

Wireless Network - System Tray Icon Wrong

Apr 30, 2011

I have a Netgear WN111 USB wireless adaptor on my PC (802.11n NIC). It works fine with my WiFi network, but it always displays the wrong icon in the System Tray when connected. It shows the signal bars greyed out, with a yellow star on top. I have tried a Windows update on the driver, but Windows (7 ultimate) says it's using the latest driver.

Netgear only have a Vista driver for this NIC, tried this to no avail, same problem. I have no other NICs enabled on the box (wired Ethernet port disabled in BIOS and nothing in Device Manager). I have googled this issue and I'm not alone (and it's not just Netgear NICs affected). However all the solutions say remove & re-install the device. Done this, and it's made no difference.

Unidentified Network Invalid IP Configuration

Nov 30, 2010

As per a lot of other people on here, I'm having issues with connecting my desktop PC to my BigPond router. It will connect via wireless (have an installed D-Link DWA525 wireless card) but will not connect via LAN.I've changed the IP, DNS and Default gateways to the same as the other working PC's in the house, but still no luck. The mobo uses Realtek GBE Family PCI-E controllers, but for some reason it won't move off 10Mbps (even when I try to tell it to change this).I have tried new drivers, and have tried uninstalling drivers and letting windows install its own. None have worked. I've disabled V6, didn't work.My IPCONFIG ALL shows up the following: [code]

Unidentified Network - Invalid IP Configuration

Aug 16, 2011

I have done things such as remove Bonjour, Stop services from Apple and Adobe, manually set my I.P. address, ping 127.0.0.1 with success, updated drivers, removed Microsoft office. Just trust me a HUGE list of things and none of them have worked. This all started when I had to restart my PC. My PC starts says the network is Unidentified, the repair tries to restart it, then suggest I restart my router, then says "Local area network is a invalid IP configuration."

We currently have 2 laptops (One with Vista the other with 7) and a desktop(XP) running on the network fine (Mine usually being the second desktop):
Windows 7 x32
4GB RAM
500GB HD
AMD Phenom II Black Edition 3.1Ghz
Nvidia 9800GT

Wireless Network Does Not Have A Valid IP Configuration

Jun 14, 2012

I've had this problem since I bought a new desktop PC with windows 7 installed. Every once in a while my internet stops working (router+modem) and a yellow exclamation mark appears. When I use the windows solution utility I get two different messages:

a)either my wireless network connection does not have a valid IP

b) the default gateway is not available

I am using d-link dwa-127 wireless adapter since my computer does not have an integrated wifi card, and I have already removed norton, which could possibly be blocking my conncection. I have tried setting my IP manually, but it does not work.

At the beginning it all functioned normally, and even now it works, but it did not before. I also noticed that when it does not work it says 'Unidentified network', and when it does it says 'Smuc' (the ssid of our network). The internet as such is working this whole time, I always check it on my laptop with windows XP and an integrated WiFi card.

Windows 7 Pro 32 Won't See Network - Auto Configuration IPv4 Address

Mar 16, 2012

We set up three new terminals this week at the office; they're all running Win 7 Pro 32-bit. I set them all up simultaneously (literally sat at a desk and entered the same keystrokes at each of them), so I don't see any obvious reason that one is behaving differently from the other two. The essential problem is that the terminal doesn't see the Internet. Here are all the particulars that I think might be interesting, listed in no particular order:

- The terminal ran fine for several hours. Email access, Internet access, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. At that point, the user called me to show me a dialog box. I used System Restore to go back in time to 9 a.m. in case the user had somehow managed to do anything (though she's not an admin).
- IPv6 is disabled.
- The workplace uses Static IPs. The IP address is entered correctly in the IPv4 properties (x.x.x.213), but at cmd / ipconfig, I get this result: "Autoconfiguration IPv4 address: 169.254.95.187"
- In Network and Sharing Center, the network (which is only known as Unidentified Network) is set to type Public. When I reset it to type Work and reboot, it resets to type Public.

Interal Network Security With Dual Router Configuration?

Jun 4, 2012

I was a bit of a loss and maybe it's because I have been out of the game for a long time but I came across a disturbing development. I call century link because my router was not connecting at the proper speed of 7 mbps. That problem was easily remedied over the phone but the lady said she could see several devices connected. This lost me a bit because I have a double router configuration. The Actiontech PK5000 i turned into nothing more that an internet modem. I disabled the DHCP and configured my Linksys E1200 for all the internal DHCP so there is only one cable going to the PK5000. I should technically speaking look like one user on there network with natural protection from the second router. I may be kidding myself or man I'm getting old but if someone can tell me how that works it would be fun to know and what would even be funner to know is how to stop it

Secured Network Configuration For Saving My Sensitive Data From Public

Sep 10, 2011

I am running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate on my desktop (home) and Windows 7 x64 Pro on my laptops. I bring my personal laptop to work which I use for emails and browsing. There is sensitive information that I would not like to share for obvious reasons. I am running into a problem making sure the information is not in "shared" mode while at work.

Work has their own network, which I am unable to connect to because the Sys Admin is lazy and will won't provide me a VPN connection directly to the system. So what I have done is use the public WiFi that we make available to our customers and connect through my own VPN off the public WiFi system. I want to make sure that I am not inadvertently sharing documents or other information doing so. When I connect to the network at work I use the "Public" setting.

What makes it more difficult is I have a similar situation at home, in which we have one internet connection through a router coming in and several people use the system. The location of the router is actually upstairs where I do not have access to, I use a Netgear WNR2000 v2 (I rent out rooms in my house), so I am forced to connect to the router wireless.

I personally am not a gamer, but one of the tenants is. I almost always use my VPN service at home to connect, but I am unsure if this is the correct set-up. I don't want to share my printers, video, etc. with everyone in the house. I am using Norton 360 for protection with Firewalls and Anti-virus software. I connect through Golden Frog VPN service for security.

I am going to connect my desktop Gigabit switch with my devices but again want my system secure, but not limited because of my situation. It is safe using the router for access and then creating this "sub-network" for my devices (for the router I am the admin)? Is there a better method or suggestion that one might have. I would really appreciate the input for this complicated matter. Should I change my workgroup for home and work? Currently its the default WORKGROUP domain for both.

"Windows Network Connection" Doesn't Have A Valid IP Configuration (HP Pavilion DV6)

Feb 6, 2011

I've just bought an HP Pavilion DV6 with Windows 7 64-bit. After the initial setup, I tried to connect to my wireless router (BT Home Hub) and after typing in the wireless key, it connects, but the network's read as unidentified and does not connect to the internet. Upon going through the diagnosis stages, it eventually comes up with '"Windows Network Connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration'.

This seems like a pretty common problem but I haven't seemed to come across a solution viable to me.

"wireless Network Connection" Doesn't Have A Valid IP Configuration

Jan 24, 2012

I frequently bring my laptop to work where the is a public wireless signal. I work at a hospital. There is a secure network but I don't have the password for it, so I use the public one. Up until recently I used an old asus with vista, and while the signal was pretty low I had no problem connecting to it and staying connected. Just meant slow internet for me. However, that computer has sadly died and I bought a samsung NP700Z5B-S01UB. And while it's a very nice machine, I cant seem to connect to the network here. It shows that there is a low wireless signal, but it still wont let me connect. The error it gives me is "wireless network connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. since I cannot do anything to the wireless network at all (as it is a network associated with the hospital).

"Wireless Network Connection Doesn't Have A Valid IP Configuration"

May 16, 2012

I get a triangle and exclamation point on the wireless signal icon in my task bar after about an hour after being connected to the internet. When I hover over the icon it displays "Limited Access". Connection is lost at this point.I then right click the icon and click "Troubleshoot Network Problems" and windows seems to restart the network card and I regain internet access for another hour or so. It says the error was "Wireless network connection doesn't have a valid IP configuration". This is hard for me to troubleshoot because everyone else that has this error cannot connect to the internet in the first place. I am (strangely) connected just fine then all of a sudden I get "Limited Access" with full wireless bars caused by an "invalid IP configuration".I have unchecked the power saving feature for the network card and tried disabling the firewall, but I'm not sure what else to do.

"System Configuration Cannot Save The Original Boot Configuration For Later Restoration"

Nov 15, 2012

I'm having trouble with my very new computer (Lenovo Y480 with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit), which I've narrowed down to the following sequence:

1. I restored computer to original factory settings (to rule out possible causes)

2. I ran msconfig, and checked the boxes 'Safe Mode' and 'Networking.' I got the following error message:"System configuration cannot save the original boot configuration for later restoration. Boot changes will be reverted. The system cannot find the file specified"

3. The default boot option disappeared from the boot menu (Windows 7, default OS, current OS).

4. When I restarted my computer, it would not boot and gave me the error 0xc00034, stating that the file BootBCD was missing.

I did not do anything else with my computer after restoring the factory settings, and I did not connect to the internet. I originally encountered the problem when I wanted to try installing Windows updates in safe mode after some of the installations failed. I have replicated the error several times, including after successfully installing all Windows updates.
