Network Failing
May 5, 2009
I have been tearing my hair out with my network disconnection issue - OK builds pre 7048 broken after 7057 to 7100. I have a Realtek 8139 NIC. I have tried all sorts of drivers none of them fixed it. Last night I thought I would take a difference approach.
The status windows showed the NIC had received 2,590,---,--- packets within the the first ten minutes of turning on the PC before failing, so some service was chewing a massive amount of data. I used the resource monitor and found that it was PID 4 - SYSTEM, this seemed a bit strange as nothing was running.
It then suddenly occurred that with all my video files sitting on a server on the network maybe it was Media-center indexing the files. So i removed the locations from media-center libraries and instantly the network settled down and there was hardly any traffic. I put a network link into my local video folder so hopefully it wont index the network drive.
I will run it like this for the next couple of days to see if it fixes it, should everything be OK its a bug Microsoft

I recently purchased a Belkin wireless network adapter for my HP windows 7 computer, and the checkout woman said it would work.
Unfortunately, it does not work. at first, it was just dodgy, connecting with only a small connection. It started getting better, but it would always cut out after a while.
A friend of mine tried to fix it, using lots of methods including the xlink kai method and others including downloading the drivers and another one which I can't remember. None have worked.
Has anyone got a really easy, fool-proof, easy understandable way to make this work please?

After a clean install on a new ssd I'm trying to get my network adapter to work. I put the driver files from the site onto a USB stick, went to devices> properties and then tried to install the drivers fro a file. Unfortunately, Win7 says there are no drivers found. On my laptop, WinZip keeps failing to extract the drivers from the ZIP. I downloaded it here:EDIT: I also tried downloading the file again in case the first got corrupted, but I get the same error each time.I also tried another driver from a product that looked very similair

Win 7 Home Prem SP1, 64 bit, 8 gb ram. Only using the screensavers that come with Windows, no matter which one I select at varying times it will fail. I can normally reboot and it works again for a time or switch to a new selection where it will work for 2-3 weeks again. I can't find any information on others experiencing the same issue and have been using numerous virus/spyware apps to find anything. MS Security Essentials, Avast, Stinger, Housecall, SuperAntiSpyware and only find tracking cookies.I know it would help if I could get the exact error message and will update when I do get a chance to write it down.

I have tried 3 times backing up my system to an external HD I have. Each time, it gives me an error saying it failed. I also see an error code: 0x81000015The strange thing is I have backed up to this HD previously with no problems and now it's not working. The HD has a capacity of 500 GB and currently has 225 GB free. I have cleared out all the backup related information off it and try again and it fails as it gets towards the end of the backup process

I recently built my new rig (specs in profile). Now last night, I was running Prime95 to get an idea of my stock temps, and Core 3 failed (expected x, returned y). Fearing the worst, I reran it, and it again failed, but on a different core. Just to eliminate any RAM issues, I did a couple of passes with Memtest, and seems to be alright there.

got a bit of a serious issue. I've got a Corsair SSD that's no longer booting. It was setup as 1 partition (C drive). I've attempted use the Windows recovery tools via my installation disc but it doesn't even list my hard drive or partition and thus fails to detect the Windows installation. My first thought was a corrupted MBR so I attempted to use the command line tools from the Windows install disc, i.e.bootrec.exe /fixmbr etc. However I get "the system cannot find the path specified" error.I even tried removing the hard drive and putting it into an external enclosure and plugged into another computer via USB. However the 3rd party computer fails to recognise the drive (probably for the same reasons).

I had a Vista home premium. I updated it to windows 7 premium. It is 32 bit. A lot of my updates have failed. I get code 800 b0100. I have looked it up on the net. I was wondering if I should put my discs in for the windows upgrade and run it thru again over the top of what I have... I also have win 7 64 bit on my network and it was original/ I have no problems with it. Barb aztzu has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.

last night my computer just shut down out seemingly for no reason and when i tried to power it back up it was asking me to insert a boot device
i was planning to reformat in a few hours anyway so it didnt phase me to much so i continued to reformat the computer with no issues then once it had finished installing and i got to the desktop it just powered off again except this time it wouldnt load past bios it just kept restarting. the intersting part with the restarts was that the bios would restart but the power to the computer would not get interrupted. Also its not always the exact some position that it decides to restart some times it will be within 1 second sometimes i get to the desktop only for it to shut down again if i try and do anything
i have tried swapping out parts to identify the faulty part. no luck. ive stripped it down to its basic parts ( cpu Mobo ram n gfx) still same thing happens i dont even have the HDs plugged in so i dont believe it to be a virus on the HD. ive tried flashing the Cmos by taking out the battery for half an hour and this seemed to work but it asked for bootmgr so i reformated the HD again only for it all to start happening again.only this time the power does turn off some times.
i have checked the temperature of the CPU and its sitting on around 47 degrees so nothing out of the ordinary the cpu coolant gell is a bit dry but given that there doesnt seem to be a heat issue i dont know why that would make an immediate difference

It seems some others are having a similar problem but thought I had to start my own post,Yesterday and this morning my pc refuses to boot initially. Sometimes it goes to the POST and stops there, sometimes to the windows 7 screen and stops there. I managed to start in safe mode but the only thing odd in there was 'C: was ok, A: (floppy) ok, D: was renamed 'F' and E: was ok (I have a TSSTcorp DVD drive and a Lite-On lightscribe drive).

Got a netbook that's been running Windows 7 for over 6 month no problem, today tried to boot up and no luck - black screen with the yellow bar running along the bottom for hours. Tried the startup repair which then gave me the chance to restore - picked this and same issue was running for hours with nothing happening. Now put Windows 7 on a USB and trying to repair though that but seems to be the same issue?

I've tried numerous times to try and update Windows Updates (trying to update on a new computer: Lenovo Thinkpad T530) but every time I shut it off, it says it's updating and it looks like it's doing fine but when I turn it says it's configuring Windows updates and it always gets stuck at the 15% mark and then says Windows updates failed, reverting changes. The error is: Error code 80071A9 I've tried Microsofts Fixits and the readiness update and all that stuff but it doesn't help at all. It's really bugging me now because this is the second or third time that my computer went to a black screen saying that it needs to check the disk (I can't remember the exact wording right now). It says the disk is fine every time but it still worries me to have this for the second/third time.

It is a Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150. When powering it up I get the Toshiba start up screen and I can hear the fan working. It seems to proceed normally then a screen comes up that says windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change may be the cause. I am not aware of any changes to either one. I get two choices. Launch start up repair(recommended) and start windows normally. With either choice it attempts to start up but then the screen stays black. I can move the cursor around normally but that is as far as it goes. I can get to the bios using f2. The version is 2.30 which appears to be the latest. I can also get to the advanced options. I have tried the repair your computer, safe mode, safe mode with networking, and safe mode with command prompt but it always ends up with the black screen. I am also able to get the the boot menu. They don't have a boot disk or recovery disk for me to use. I have tried using another monitor with the same results. I have also tried unplugging the computer, removing the battery and pressing the start button for both 30 and 60 seconds with no success. I have done a little research and it sound like he may have the zero access root kit.

On my laptop, I recently started having the peculiar issue that when I tried to attach files to my e-mails, the "Browse" button that should have opened an explorer window did not open one at all. I tried it with various e-mail accounts and all of them did not work. Then, I tried using a "save image as" to see if that part of the explorer was also not responding, and it was not. Lastly, I checked another program I had that would need to browse through explorer.exe and it also failed to run. If I just try to browse files regularly by clicking on the folder and looking through them, it works just fine. It's just other programs are not getting through to be able to access the files. The last thing I changed about my computer was updating video drivers, and there's no reason as to why that would have any influence (not to mention the update I did was about 2 weeks before the explorer started acting up). Also, I do want to make it clear that it is not the "browser" at fault, but the "browse" function that connects to my computer.

After i bought it i read tons of reviews about it failing or having issues right from the start,, Mine has worked flawlessly so far however its only been a little over a month or two since i got it. Just yesterday i started having issues where on boot up it freezes just before or right after it finds the SSD drive.Something locked up yesterday and i had no choice but to do a hard power off, Right after that one of my other drives was showing as dirty. I scanned it and had windows fix any issues with it and everything seemed fine for about 5hours or so till my system again froze then would not boot because it was not finding the SSD drive. I took the side off my case and checked that the sata connections were good then started back up and everything was fine again for maybe another hour. Then my IE froze and my desktop went solid white and i got some kind of security error when i hit Ctrl + Alt + Del that told me to either use the esc key or to use the power button to shut down,,, esc did nothing but the power button killed it QUICK! This time i took the side off my case again and eliminated all but the SSD drive and have been fine now for about another 3-4 hrs. So anyhow what im wondering is if there is a SSD drive utility that will scan my drive and check it for issues? I have read not to use defragmenter on my SSD drive and i never have but what about windows chkdsk or maybe Tune up utillities drive check?

I bought a copy of the Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit version the other day. I have tried to install it twice now, with failed attempts both times. The first time I tried to install it, the installation failed about halfway thru giving me a message saying that the installation stopped due to corrupt or missing data. I then proceeded to boot from the windows disk again and deleted/formatted that failed partition. I tried the installation over again and let it run thru the night. Now what is happening is my computer won't boot up. All that happens is it gets stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. It stays on that screen for about 5 mins then the computer automatically restarts itself. This cycle then repeats.

I shut down my system after installing the latest set of Win7 patches about 3 hours ago and now it refuses to boot. Tried to restore previous points with no luck, they all give the same result as before, it simply gets to the 'loading windows' screen with no animation and just hangs there.
In repair it passes all of the tests before giving the reason for not being able to boot as "due to Windows patch", I'm at somewhat of a loss here...
This is on a completely legal copy of Win7 64.

I work at staples, and 3 days ago a costumer arrived with a toshiba laptop, it was falinf to boot in to normal mode, so I started it in safe mode to do a backup, but then an other technician reboot the machine, now it does not boot even in safe mode, it gets stuck loading a .sys file.I Tried to get access to command prompt with a windows 7 DVD but for some reason the hard drive is not listed, so i have no access to it, I can't even re install windows b/c of that, but still the fact that even it start loading tells me that the machine do have access to it.I extract the hard drive and tried to connect it to an other computer running XP, through a IDE-USB 2.0 adaptapter, the leds turn on indicating that the hard drive is working but the computer doesn't recognize it.

I have gone at least 5 months since I last installed windows updates. I had partially disabled the automatic updates (made it so that it downloads automatically but I choose whether to install them) and have recently decided to install the 101 or so updates that had been downloaded automatically.
About 74 of those updates, but I was able to troubleshoot windows update and so was able to successfully install 30 of those important updates.
The problem now is that I have 44 updates that are downloaded and require a shutdown or restart to be installed. However every time I shutdown or restart my computer I have to wait 5-10 mins for windows to configure the updates and in the end they fail and the changes are reverted.
I've tried troubleshooting again but it did not work. I wonder if these updates are older versions of newer ones I have installed and are therefore failing to install.

it started about a few months ago, when my computer wouldn't let me play games or Internet videos one day suddenly, the screen would turn green and it would say a "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" i updated the drivers and it fixed it for ages up until yesterday. i moved my computer onto a new desk and suddenly it started going weird again, it was failing to start up, crashing 2/3 times when it was on the windows logo, then crashing and emitting a annoying buzzing noise, which i fixed by updating the system and graphic drivers again, but now it's gone back to doing the "graphic driver failed and has now been recovered" error, stopping the video and or window that i'm using like msn or skype for instance. also sometimes the screen will just go a bright white and it has to be reset because you cannot see anything else on the monitor. tried with different monitor still same issues.

I'm trying to fix my mums laptop for her, it's an Asus X5DIJ operating on windows 7, she has only had it a few weeks but her trial month of anti virus had run out and she was having a few probs with it so I tried to restore it to an earlier point as i thought she might have a virus, it took over an hour to do this and appeared to have frozen so i switched the power button off!!!! i now realise that was a big mistake as when it restarted i was getting a whole load of error message with missing .dll files and not being able to do a lot of things so i tried undoing the restore but it wouldn't allow it as it said restore was still running, i also tried a different restore point but it wouldn't allow that either... I then tried the repair computer options at the boot menu but it didn't work either so I thought i might as well just restore it to factory settings as she hadn't had it long enough to have put much on it anyway.... the recovery disk gets to 32% and then spits the disk out with this message Failed to restore disk from the Asus Recovery DVD Error code is :-3 I have tried it a few times and this is what happens each time, i have also tried just putting the next disk in (3rd out of 4) but it just reboots and wants to start the whole process again.I have the number to call asus support but they are closed today, also the recovery disks are not supplied by the manufacturer but instead on initial start up you are asked to make your own but i didn't do that as my cousin has the exact same laptop so I used his disks..
