Netbook Not Hibernating After Sleep?

Aug 13, 2011

I reinstalled the same version of Windows 7 (7601 x64) on my netbook that I previously had on it. Prior to this, when I left the netbook plugged in overnight, it would go to sleep mode after 10 minutes, then sometime during the night always power off completely (hibernate). This would allow me to take it with 100% battery and power it up later when needed. Now after the reinstall, it goes to sleep mode, but always remains in sleep mode and will never hibernate. I've scoured the power options, and confirmed that hibernate is enabled with powercfg. Is this just a simple option I'm over looking? The only difference is that I installed SP1 this time!

Netbook Can't Resume From Sleep BUT Works Fine From Hybernation

Mar 9, 2012

i have a bit of "weird" problem, that is, my netbook cannot resume properly from sleep BUT hybernation works fine. and the strange thing is, it was a while, lets say couple of months i didnt use sleep mode which used to work perfectly, all latest security updates have been done, etc etc...the computer goes properly into standby (hard disk saves files to memory?) and then the standby led blinks correctly. when i hit any key, the hard drive loads something for about 3-4 seconds, then Caps lock and Scroll Lock lights on the keyboard turn on (as if it was the check when you boot the pc) and then they stay stuck on and everything is idle, i have tried to leave the computer there 5 minutes, nothing happened, those 2 lights are stuck on... to get the pc back on i have to long press the power button so forcing a reset, when comp boots, it will detect something went wrong asking me what i want to do, i choose "boot normally" and is back up, this is what i have in the admin error log if that can give any hint, in referse order (newer first): 0 Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x22224330DF61. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.

1 The following boot-start or system-start driver(s) failed to load: cdrom

2 Engine and VDF could not be loaded from installation directory. Engine and VDF will be loaded from a backup copy. >> AVIRA

3 The print spooler cannot start because the PrinterBusEnumerator could not start. Error code 0x490. This can occur because of system instability or a lack of system resources.

4 Audit events have been dropped by the transport. 0

5 The driver DriverWUDFRd failed to load for the device USBVID_147E&PID_10005&9195cc&1&1. Warning, Kernel PnP

6 The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. CRITICAL, KERNEL POWER

7 The previous system shutdown at 07:28:23 on ‎09/‎03/‎2012 was unexpected.so perhaps keyboard problem? see below: the ONLY relevant hardware change i did recently was to swap keyboard with an OEM one as the stock one was kaput (though i still have it for a test which i have to do this evening). i am talking about the very onboard keyboard, not an external one, i purchased a OEM compatible one that works perfectly but to be precise is not the original.on startup i have avira, battery care (beta version) and the wireless utility, always had them.i have tried the following which haven'ty made ANY difference:

- changing Power options, restored "defaults", changed hybrid sleep on/off

- BIOS is useless as there's no power management options, is a netbook.

- roll back / reinstalled Nvidia video drivers

- my netbook has 2 onboard video cards, an nvidia and an integrated intel, i tested both configurations but the problem is IDENTICAL therefore i would skip the "video card problem" if that makes sense...

Cpu Not Booting After Hibernating

Apr 6, 2011

I have an Intel D5400XS Motherboard. I started up my machine as I always do from hibernate mode in Windows 7 but this time the computer did not boot into Windows! I have a blank screen, the monitor light is amber, the fans are spinning but no hard drive noise like I usually hear. I see that the Port 80h POST code says E6 which refers to "Started connecting drivers" I have tried resetting CMOS by removing the battery and waiting 1 hr, still get the same problem.

Windows 7 Won't Hibernating After Moving To SSD?

Aug 14, 2011

I moved Windows 7 from a partition on a physical hard drive to a new SSD. It was pretty easy, and everything works great except the hibernate function. The screen goes blank for about two seconds and then comes back on. Nothing power-related appears in the Event Viewer. The PC restarts, shuts down, and even sleeps with no trouble. I ran powercfg -h off and then powercfg -h on to delete and recreate the hibernation file,no offense, but no lectures about how a "clean" reinstall is required or even recommended when moving to an SSD. That's just not true. Similar to upgrading to a larger physical hard drive, all you do is copy the partition to the new drive and continue on your way.

How Can I Stop My Laptop From Hibernating ?

Dec 1, 2009

I have set my laptop to go to sleep when I close the lid. According to the online help, it should stay in sleep mode unless the battery gets low, in which case it hibernates. Well after a while of being asleep, my laptop goes into hibernation regardless of the battery life remaining. This can happen after an hour or so.

How can I stop it from hibernating, or is this normal?

Computer Not Hibernating Or Sleeping Correctly?

Jun 6, 2011

Recently i have been having trouble getting my Dell Studio 1747 laptop to hibernate or sleep. When i go to start and hit either sleep or hibernate, the screen shuts off but the computer never fully goes off. The fans continue to run and the usb power lights are still on. It will stay like this for hours. I have let it go all night before and the only way to shut it off is to hold the power button and do a force restart. I have had this problem before. After a different discussion post we determined it was a power settings problem and after I set hard disks no not shut off the problem was solved. I had to reinstall my OS and when i put the same power settings back, the problem continued to happen. But i still think it may be a power setting. I have all of the current drivers installed and my computer is free of any viruses. Im running Windows 7 Pro x64 but it was also a problem with home edition.

Hibernating Makes Laptop Fast

Dec 16, 2012

So if i click hibernate and repeatedly press my power button, until the small light with the cylinder icon at the bottom front side of my laptop turns off, my laptop powers back on once that light goes off, once it powers back on it resumes Windows again and everything is amazingly faster than before. It goes slow again once i shutdown or restart, so i do this every time I'm gonna use my laptop. I press the power button while it is hibernating, it's not fully hibernated and turned off while I'm pressing the button, and it never really hibernates, it just boots back up while it's trying to hibernate lol..

Low Brightness Screen When Exiting Hibernating Mode

Nov 1, 2009

I installed Windows 7 this week on my notebook Dell XPS M1710.

Everything is good working, except one thing :

When I close the screen, so the notebook go hibernating, and then I reopen it, the notebook leave the hibernating mode, and here the screen goes dark, the brightness is very low, despite the brightness setting is at max. The only solution is to reboot the notebook.

So now I can't use hibernating mode, I have to always shutdown the notebook.

Does anybody have the same problem ?

Windows 7 Not Hibernating Sometimes (hanging At Black Screen)

Sep 17, 2011

For the last month or so, my home-built Windows 7 (Home Premium) PC doesn't always hibernate properly - it just hangs at the black screen and I have to hold in the power button for at least 4 seconds to 'power off' the PC.

I have no idea why this has started to happen and sometimes it works fine. Sometimes when I boot back up I get the message that Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown and will notify me if a solution is available, but no other details are provided.

I've checked the Windows system logs and can see no indication of what is causing the issue when shutting down. Obviously with the screen going black I cannot see any error messages either!

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black 3.2GHz

Won't Sleep From Start Menu But Sleep Timer Works?

Apr 1, 2012

I know there are a bunch of sleep problems out there but I couldn't fine one similar to this after doing a forum search. Running Windows 7 Ultimate. Sleep used to work ok but now when I choose sleep from the start menu, the screen blacks out but the computer doesn't actually go to sleep. The fans, activity lights, hdd lights are all still running. If I move the mouse the screen comes back. However, if I just wait for the sleep timer to kick in then the computer does go to sleep (all fans stop running and all lights go out). I'm not sure what caused this. I use my pc as an HTCP and now when I push the power button on the remote the pc does not go to sleep.

Slow Resume From Sleep If Sleep For Long Time

That's like longer than my entire boot-up time excluding POST.Event viewer doesnt show any performance delay, and I dont think my OS drive (OCZ vertex 2) has a cache so I have it disabled. I'm sure all my mobo drivers and graphic drivers are up to date.

What Is Best OS For A Netbook

Dec 12, 2011

I was recently reading a tech magazine which I borrowed from my school's library earlier today. While checking this magazine, I found ( at the 82nd page ) a review about about JoliCloud (or Joli OS), which is an operating system optimized for small notebooks and netbooks. At first look, it seemed a good OS, so I decided to look for it on the web, and read some users opinions about it , ect.Unfortunately, I didn't find any review about it at Cnet, but nevermind. After about an hour of surfing, I've found a bunch of operating systems that are optimized and run smoothly on netbooks, rather than Windows 7 , perhaps.I got confused, so I came here to ask for help to choose the best operating system to run it next to windows 7, for some reason. My prefered way to run it, is on a virtual machine, but please tell me if running it by another way is still better and easier.Well, to help me (more) finding an OS that fits my needs:

1) Free, absolutely free please!
2) Power saver, just to keep more battery life.
3) Customizable, I like to give my special touch to the OS interface and apparence, just to be happy with it !
4) Good for web surfing, and mini games, because that's what I usually use my netbook for.

Characters in bold are more important, if the other recommendations are not available, it's ok.I have a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom CPU (2CPUs) and an up to 900MB of RAM. (HP mini 311-1000CA)I am currently running windows 7.

Netbook: Win 7 HP Or Pro ?

Oct 29, 2009

My girlfriend, a student planning on taking advantage of the student deal going on right now, is going to be getting a new netbook. Unfortunately, Windows 7 Starter is sort of lacking in some features and she wants to upgrade.

Since they're both $30, what it comes down to is this:

Should she get Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Pro? It's going to be on a netbook, so I'm thinking HP is the way to go, but if Pro doesn't require any additional resources, it might work as well.

Also, this will sound very noob-tastic, but: Would it be easier on the netbook to install the 32-bit version of the OS, or does it not matter (32 vs 64 in terms of system resources)?
