View 3 Replies View RelatedMy Girl recently got a Dell Inspiron N5040, when we first turned it on, after a few mins it randomly restarted, i thought maybe its just an update (had to install loads of windows updates) however, over the past week, its being doing it every time its been turned off for a few hours... however once it restarts and comes back on, it usually is fine, It's only when leaving it a long while then turning it back on, it does the same again, and today for the first time we got a blue screen of death, which i believe may lead to some answers, here is the report:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name:BlueScreen
OS Version:6.1.7601.2.1.0.768.3

2) PC crashes while making a restore point.3) Reboot - normal startup. But when I shut down later, the update tries to install and the installation hangs. After disc activity ceases, I shut down manually.4) Reboot - normal startup. At this point, I decided to use System Restore to clean out any residue from the failed install before downloading the patch again. Yup, you guessed it, I used the damaged restore point. D'oh!5) PC reboots as part of restore process - I get a startup error.6) Scan for problems - attempt repair - recieve the following error. "StartRep.exe Application Error. The instruction at 0x75bc9a45 referenced memory at 0x538e0e85. The memory could not be read"7) I try to restore to an earlier point, but the restore fails."System Restore failed while mounting the registry from the restore point. Unspecified error (0x80070020)"8) I close System Restore window and PC reboots automatically - normal startup.9) I recieve a notification from "Solve PC Issues" in the taskbar saying Microsoft Security Essentials is out of date and would I like to update?
So here I am. My PC appears to be running smoothly, but I don't know if there's any hidden damage in the system. I still want to clear out any residue from the failed install before I download the patch again, but now I'm wary of using System Restore. Also, the MSE update notification has me puzzled - the last restore point I tried to restore to preceeded an MSE definitions update, but that restore failed (didn't it?) and anyway, I don't normally recieve definitions update notifications from "Solve PC Issues". This las left me unsure where my system is at restore point-wise right now.
I'm at my whit's end with this. My PC shuts down fine but hangs on restart. It does this is both safe and normal mode. It appears to hang right before the HD would get turned off. The SHUTTING DOWN screen proceeds fine and the HD stops it's activity, the screen goes black (the HD light stays) and it just hangs there. Pressing the RESET button on the PC starts it up fine. If I am restarting from some utility (for example when installing Windows) it can hang with the RESTARTING WINDOWS screen.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI downloaded 3 new programs (1 from disc) 2 off internet and now my PC (Optiplex 745/ Dell: OS Windows 7) won't shut down. I just see a screen and it says "shutting down" but it doesn't. When I use the button on the PC same thing. When I boot up all is fine. I have to unplug it to shut it down.
-Network adapters
-Your NIC properties
-Power management
Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" and it shut down once and went back to same problem.
Dell inspiron 580 with core i5-760 @ 2.8ghz and 4gb DDR3 RAM, windows 7 home premium an nvidia geforce 310. My system gets hang at windows logo while starting, while system is shutting down. Have nayone come across about this problem earlier. Is the nvidia Graphic card causing the problem? I have even restored my PC by the problem still the same.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI own a DCP UPS, and it's been with me for 2.5 years now. Recently (this happened twice) whenever the power shuts down, the UPS makes a screeching noise every 2 seconds (compared with every 5 seconds earlier), the orange battery light flickers on and off, and five seconds later, it shuts down with the computer after the orange light turns red (indicating an emergency). However, when I switched on the UPS, waited for two minutes, then WITHOUT switching on the computer shut the power off, it reacts normally (ie turns to battery power without a hitch). So does this mean that it is unable to bear battery power while the computer is on? And if so, does this mean that I should discard this one and get it replaced? And another final thing - until I do so, should I disconnect this one from the PC in case it may adversely affect the power supply of the CPU?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running on a Windows 7 32 bit system, self built. Before I go into explain all of the details, here are my computer specs..My computer has been crashing a lot recently. It never use to happen, it just started within the past month or so. It's not a BSOD, there's no error, no warning.. Just black. When I start up, it's like nothing ever happened. But it's really annoying, whenever I begin to render a video, it crashes almost every time. It also stopped a few times while I was trying to play games and record, but I have recorded in the past. My computer use to be at it's prime but I don't know what changed. I could really use some advice to fix this. Any suggestions would help, I'm really wanting to render up all the footage I have.I do a lot of video game recording on my PC, I use the program bandicam. Also, my PC doesn't seem to be suffering from overheating, as the hard drive stays cool when it crashes.I keep about 50gb free space open on my computer to avoid extra errors.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been receiving is that, whenever I try to shut down my computer, it will go to the 'shutting down' screen as usual, bu the shutting down would stay there forever, and does not do anything. This results into shutting down the computer manually by pressing the power button on the CPU. It is very frustrating because when this occurs, it gives off further errors and computer becomes abit unstable. The next time I had logged in (today) I received the folliwing message upon windows starting up. This message happens to ocur after the pc was shut down manually.

View 9 Replies View RelatedMy computer shuts down a lot all by it's self and sometimes shutdowns with a Blue Screen of Death. When it usually shuts down by itself it reboots and it tells me that my computer has failed to start so I choose Start Windows Normally then when the Starting Windows Screen comes up my computer gets a differnet Blue Screen of Death. I am not sure what it says when that comes up because it reboots itself after 1 second. I will list the errors and my computer information down below. I get really stressed out over this.

The issue is that any time I play ANY game, when I try to shut down the computer, it stays at the "Shutting Down" phase forever and then after 15-20+ min, sometimes it re-starts itself. Of note, is that when this happens and I manually shut the computer off, and turn it back on I get a "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown" message. and the error ID is BlueScreen-something.
This does NOT occur when I use the PC for anything else such as browsing the internet. No matter what game it is, any time I play a game (not counting minesweeper, solitaire, etc), the computer will not shut down. All drivers seem to be up to date. Any ideas on what could be causing this?
