Working External Drive - Win7 Wants To Format It
Oct 29, 2009Today I upgraded my 64 bit Vista Ultimate to 32 bit Seven Ultimate (retail). I did it by using the DVD to boot up and do a custom install as it wouldn't do a standard upgrade cos of the 32 bit/64 bit clash.
Anyway, it worked smoothly up until I go to my external hard drive to look at some old photos. I plug it in and it gets recognised, but then I get told that it needs formatting before it can be used. No way am I doing that!
I check the hard drive on another machine running XP and the drive is fine.
Any idea what's going on?
Perhaps I should just format the C drive and do a completely clean re-install of Seven?

Nov 27, 2012I have a Buffalo HD-LB3 3TB external harddrive. My main goal is to get it to work with my xbox 360. I was able to get it to work on my blueray player but it is not found by my Xbox. I have formatted it to Fat32 and I have partitioned it into two pieces, 1.8 TB and 1.1 TB. Still nothing is working.

Nov 1, 2012I have a pioneer blueray writer drive installed in my Sony Vaio laptop. I'm on holiday and brought some DVD's with me to watch in the evenings. I have watched several since arriving but tonight when I tried to play one nothing happened. I checked in device manager and it reports that the drive is working properly but when I checked device region I found that it was set to region 1 instead of region 2. When I try to switch to region 2 I get the following error message;"Unable to update region setting. The drive reports that it requires media of the destination region (region 2) so please insert appropriate media and try again." When I insert a region 2 DVD into the drive and click okay it asks if I'm sure I want to change to region 2, I click OK and I get the same error message as above. I have tried uninstalling the drive and then rebooting the computer to force Windows 7 to reinstall it but it just comes up the same as it was. Any idea how to get this working again?

Now I want to completely format the C: drive, the location of the previous Win 7 install. However, when I try to run "diskpart" it just gets stuck and will not give me a prompt to start erasing/formatting the drive(s). I have tried re-installing Win7, as well as tried repairing so that I could roll back the drive, and none of those work. This is an HP G72 laptop (Win7 - Core I-3).
