Windows has stopped completing backups. A few weeks ago, I bought an external HD and began doing regular backups that completed with no problems. Now I get a message that Windows backup did not complete successfully. Message also says that the drive that Windows is installed on needs at least 400 MB of free space. My C-drive shows 138 GB of free space and my external HD shows 162 GB of free space. What is wrong?

I am running Windows 7/32, IE 9, Acronis True Image Home 2010, and Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 on my (newish) Desktop.y problem is System Restore: can create restore points manually, or they are created automatically when I download MS Updates for instance, and I have a fair list of these. But when I want to restore my computer to an earlier time, the whole process goes through the motions, and restarts the computer, but the error message "System Restore did not complete successfully ..." appears every time. I have tried a boot restore, I have disabled Kaspersky while I tried, but the result is always the same

I am currently in the process of carrying out a system restore and have been for several hours now. The process has been running for 3 hours now and indicates that it is still "restoring files..." And shows no sign of ever finishing. I am not at home so I will need to unplug the laptop eventually and ultimately allow it to power down mid process.
1. Is there a safe way of ending the process? There is no stop/cancel option, however I still appear to be able to use the System Recovery Options in the behind window. (Shutdown and restart buttons are present).
2. What will likely happen when I do need to end the process? Will this cause irreparable damage to my laptop?
3. Is it likely that the process should be taking this long? Should I make arrangements to leave it running for an extended period of time? I have run system restore before but it has always completed within 30mins or so in the past.
I am carrying out a restore because my laptop refused to start. I am concerned that I might have done damage whilst running a pc tweaking software immediately before the problem arose.

SUMMARY: Windows 7100 x64 installation freezes on splash/loading screen during the first restart after the last step of installation.
Let me start by saying this all started 4 days ago when Windows 7 Ultimate build 7068 x64 randomly started refusing to let my router assign my machine an IP address. It was a hard-line connection and had been working fine for weeks.
No hardware changes, no software changes, no network changes, and poof--no connectivity. Other machines and OS's connected to it fine, and my machine connected to OTHER networks fine. Two days of router hard resets and windows registry hacks yielded absolutely no progress, so I arrived at a reinstallation of Windows.
I decided that since I was going to lose all data anyhow, I would take that opportunity to update the firmware on my SSD--which, if you've never heard of this process-- it is no small feat. After consulting with 4 IT professionals at work, whoring out 3 different PC's, obtaining a mild concussion, and an act of congress, I finally got a formatted, blank SSD with updated firmware ready to re-install windows to.
I created a 7100 x64 installation disc using Microsoft's ISO and booted from it. Installation went smoothly all the way up to the very last step (when the screen resolution changes from default low-res to OS-worthy normal resolution) and then setup says it needs to restart one last time.
It appears as though this time when it restarts, it actually boots from the hard drive, rather than the installation program. I got the animated windows icon with the black back drop, and then before the OS pops up it just hangs and freezes.
No keyboard input is responsive (ctl + alt + delete doesn't work) once it freezes, and a "repair installation" just yields a "Windows cannot repair this installation" message. I tried everything I can think of and there is no way to get past it. Botting it in safe mode just says "Windows cannot boot in safe mode because setup needs to complete first."
For sanity's sake, I wiped the disc again and installed XP x64 and it installed lickedy-split just fine. I don't understand though, because I was running build 7068 no problems beforehand, and it wasn't hard to install at all.

I've been trying to install Windows 7 for like 3-4 times now and every time I get to the Completing Installation part I wait a little and suddenly I get a red error box and it says something about "Windows cannot be installed..." and then pc shuts down. The error box is there for like 0.5 seconds so I cant read it, but its just like 1 sentence. "Cannot be installed" and something after that.

I have a Windows 7 system that had a failing boot drive. Since I build all systems with a motherboard RAID-1 array, it survived one drive failure but soon started showing problems on the remaining drive. I have the usual knotty problem of wanting to move the boot drive to a new HDD, but complicated by the fact that the new drive is a software RAID-1 array. Most of the free and trial tools will not do a disc-image copy to a software RAID setup. I downloaded the trial of Norton Ghost only to find that its disc-image feature is not enabled in the trial copy. I used Ghost to make a complete backup of the failing boot drive, skipping bad file sectors, and restored the backup to a newly created RAID-1 array. After some mucking around with repair and boot disk settings, the system will boot, but stops short of giving me a desktop - I get only a blue background, with a Windows build notice (and a bogus-copy alert) in the bottom corner. I can call up Task Manager and switch logins to an incomplete desktop.
I really don't want to buy a copy of Ghost to enable the image-copy feature only to find that it won't work on my system... and I hate having to buy such software because my very infrequent uses of it mean I get about one use out of each license. I feel like I'm one simple step from getting my backup to run correctly... can anyone point me to what file or files might have been missed, and what files I can copy from the original boot drive to make things work correctly?

I attempted a windows 7 install on an x64 and x32 system several times with the same result. The Upgrade runs until the last stage and then hangs. I looked at the logs but didn't see any errors. All my systems are custom built using Vista ultimate OEM additions.I was successful installing the software as a new install.I updated all the drivers.

Yesterday I bought a new hard drive. I went from a Western Digital Caviar Blue 500GB to a Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB. So, same family of HDDs. I put in a burned Windows 7 install disc, and the process went okay until after the computer restarted and moved on to 'Completing Installation'. It just sits there. It doesn't freeze - I can move the mouse and there are three little dots after 'Completing Installation' that continue animating. I can also click the red X at the top-right but it says installation cannot be canceled at that point, which makes sense.I first let it sit on 'Completing Installation' for two hours. Then I turned my computer off, unplugged everything except for my mouse and keyboard, formatted the drive to get rid of any bad data, and tried again. After three hours of 'Completing Installation', I removed my video card, all but one stick of RAM, and entered the BIOS to see if there were any options relating to my hard drive. The only options I found were the options to choose a hard drive - I only have the one - and a couple of Plug and Play options. I restarted setup again, formatted again, and started the process over. Then I went to bed.
This morning, seven hours later, it was still sitting at 'Completing Installation'. I tried taking the install disc out to see if the install would stop or throw up an error, but it didn't make a peep. I took the install disc to my other computer to copy the data to a folder on the desktop, to see if there was an error. Everything copied fine. Plus, when I burned the DVD, I burned it at the lowest possible speed and had the program verify it. Everything came up fine. One thing I'll mention - when I start setup, I'm given an option to install a driver. I decided to choose that option just to see if it might provide any clarity. It then showed me the contents of my hard drive. Program Files was in there, My Documents was in there. So setup is doing something, it's just not finishing for some reason.

Windows 7 32&64bit wont pass first stage of Completing Installation due to "VGA DRIVER" After many weeks of trying to fix my mistake
[code]...
Well first off the computer was running Windows xp64 pro and I performed clean install of windows 7 64BIT, Everything was working great and installed all updates up to sp1. Then I got a "twitch" in my brain and deciced to update my bios which I have never done nor even really used bios before and even better I updated when I was using windows 7. I was nable to open safari and I think other things were glitching out but cant remember. So of ourse now I know that my bios settings changed with the update and I attempted to reset and oll back and now have the old bios reinstalled and have tried many different settings with no change in installation. So I thought maby another clean install will fix my mistakes.and now after many many attempts to install both 32 AND 64BIT Windows 7 I found that using Shift f10 and going to device manager I can see that only the VGA DRIVER has a question mark and there is not a display drivers folder. I have tried onboard with no card installed with same results. I have also tried 3 different video cards and even ownloaded the driver for them for windows 7 64 and 32 from microsoft update catalog and it will say it can not be installed at the load driver option during windows 7 install, it will find the driver and put it on the list so it knows what Im trying to install just wont install it.(like it doesn't recognize the hardware)So im going crazy because I know windows 7 will run on this maching I just dont know what to do to make it work again other then find a working vga driver or video card that will install its drivers during the install from the windows 7 disc.I have tried:2 different hd both formated with windows 7 disc from cmd prompt disabled everything in bios I am not needing for installinstalling from usb with nothing attached to motherboard except a video card because I dont think onboard is compatable.Have tried to install in safe mode tried to disable vga during completing installation tried disabling usb after first restart and removed usb.I have tried installing in a different computer then puting hd back in and repair says it can not repair.Well im stuck believing I need to have a working VGA driver for installation to complete or it is not recognizing my card to know to install the driver.I have two VGA cards to try.Geforce 8500GT Geforce 7300LE Also my ethernet driver will not install ither so I dont have internet when using shift f10 to attempt installing driver over internet. I have been keeping it disables to prevent a problem there also.

I installed win 7 on my laptop. After completing the instalation, I started with update all drivers through device manager. When monitor software was finished with updating, monitor have had a black screen. There is no signs of life after many times of switching off the laptop on switch button.
I have tried to remove drivers in safe mode, but f8 or f10 on starting up does not run. Simply, screen is black, as it is no part of laptop.
Model of laptop is fujitsu siemens, model of monitor is samsung.
How can I resolve this?

So I have searched around and none of the solutions worked, but let me get to the basics:
DFI LanPark DK 790 FX Motherboard
3.2 GHz AMD Athlon X2 64 bit processor
4 GB DDR2 RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS Video card with 720 MB Ram
Hard drives:
Western Digital Raptor @ 70 GB (going to be used as the OS drive)
Western Digital Caviar @ 80 GB
Maxtor 120 GB IDE drive (the other 2 are both SATA drives)
Sony DVD R/RW Drive
using onboard audio
Okay so I am running a fresh, clean install (the only "information" is on the IDE drive, and that's my backup for iTunes and Steam) using the Windows 7 Ultimate DVD. The DVD kept hanging @ "completing installation", so I took it to my laptop, and using the instructions on here, made a bootable flash drive.I just tried completing installation from the bootable flash, and it still hangs at that step. When it hangs, it's in a locked up state.. I can't even press Shift + F10 (nothing happens). Also, the CD correctly makes the "System Allocated" section on the drive. Also, i removed all USB drives, and am running both a PS/2 mouse and keyboard.

I have an HP dx7 laptop, which was experiencing repeated blue screens with many different error codes as well as periodically restarting seemingly at random. Occasionally it would also have the screen go black (looked like it entered sleep mode), which was unrecoverable.I tried to track down the various drivers and problems suggested by the error codes in the BSOD, but didn't have any success in preventing the blue screens/restarts. Eventually I decided to take the system recovery DVD's from HP, and reformat and reset to factory defaults. I figured at factory default settings if the system was still unstable, it'd point towards a hardware problem as opposed to drivers or other software. While performing the system recovery, it proceeds all the way to where it says "Setup is preparing your computer for first use" and gets to the step of installing drivers, at which point the system restarts. After booting up it then tells me that the installation has failed, and to reinstall. I've done this 3 times now, and get the same issue each time. I cant provide logs or dump files of the blue screens or other errors, since the HDD has been formatted as part of the system recovery.

Every input field that is displayed is immediatley filled with an endless stream of dashes -------- and I cannot stop it.
Even the Microsoft button immediately launches search and starts filling this with dashes. Excel starts and then immediately fills the first cell clicked with dashes - pages of them if I let it continue. I have Norton 360 which reports nothing untoward and have checked the keyboard to make sure the keys are not sticking (they are not) but it seems bizarre. I have tried everything and have managed to negotiate to restore - but (as ususal) restore just wastes your time going through the process and reporting that the restore hasn't worked 30-minutes later. Other odd things are happening too - restore only shows one restore point ands when I click to see more, I get a flash of other restore points available and immediately the screen changes to just show one restore point again.
I have taken the memory out and tried each of the two modules on it's own - this changes nothing. Have I got a virus or trojan? The last thing that has happened is random folders opening and closing...I have Win 7 32-bit Home Premium fully service packed to latest spec.

I seem to be having an issue doing a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 Enterprise on a 40GB Intel 320 series SSD. The install will go as far as 'Completing Installation' before the screen goes blank, the computer restarts, makes another attempt to complete installation, with the screen eventually going blank again (monitor indicator turns amber, system non-engaged)I've done an extensive amount of Googling, and have followed the installation guide found here on the sevenforums - SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation (specifically, routine #4)[CODE]

Ok so yesterday I did a boot and nuke, completely wiped the hard drive because Vista had made it crash pretty bad earlier. Did plenty of check disk and memory tests beforehand and everything was fine.
Now, I am trying to install Windows 7 and I get to completing installation and it tells me it can't finish because an installation file is corrupted.
I have formatted the hard drive to no avail. Right now I am cleaning the disk through cmd prompt. The DVD is a valid copy, purchased from a military store, brand new.

I ordered a Windows 7 Home Premium Family pack about 2 months ago and it arrived last week. While I wasn't expecting it until October 22, I figured "why look a gift horse in the mouth". However, when I try to install it I hit a problem. I had Vista Ultimate installed and attempted an upgrade. Everything went fine until I got to the "Completing Installation" part. At this point the installation just stops. I've left it sitting here for over 8 hours with no results. I have tried doing a clean install, deleting and formatting the previous Windows drive, and always the same thing happens. There is no error message, it just stops. When I do a hard shutdown and reboot, I get the message that the computer experienced an unexpected shutdown and to reboot my computer. I get the same message when I reboot. I called MS who told me that support will not be available until 10/22.

I use the latest version of firefox and use Dodo wireless broadband and I can never get beyond 98% of a download, it's very frustrating when certain programs have to be updated to even run. According to dodo's signal charts I should be in the best location for their signals and when I contact them they refuse to take any responsibility for it. I wasted countless gigs on downloads that just won't finish. Is there anything I can do to make the downloads finish? I've tried disabling my anti virus, firewalls, tried using IE8, NOTHING WORKS!
