Just recently, when I go to mute the sound in Windows, it does nothing and sounds continues to still be played. The icon in my taskbar displays the red circle with the slash through it indicating that it has been "muted" when in fact it has not. I am still able to adjust the volume with the slider and that works fine, just not mute.
View 8 RepliesMany months ago I spent countless hours trying to troubleshoot the Hibernate/Sleep function on Windows 7 and eventually gave up. I subsequently had to reinstall Windows 7 on a reformatted drive and to my amazement from that day on the Hibernate function has worked It has continued without major problems until 48 hours ago. Because of the past problems, I have routinely made manual restore points at regular intervals and whenever the Hibernate mode faltered I have been able to wind back to a working state.One thing which has regularly messed with the Hibernate function has been a program called LP Recorder, for recording vinyl LPs. Having some LPs to record on Saturday evening I created a Restore Point prior to starting. Yesterday, after all the LPs were transferred to CD, I restored to Saturday's Restore Point but this time I have not restored the Hibernate function. Worse still is the fact that all my previous Restore Points have vanished without a trace.Since I worked on the LPs, I have not made any other changes to the system I am running, no programs have been installed or removed, in fact I have really not done a lot on the computer.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI my middle click function has stopped working on my mouse, at first I assumed it was a Chrome update and that I could no longer use it to "Open link in new tab" however it seems that it now does absolutely nothing and I am unable to reassign it. I used CAD software (Solidworks) that requires the middle mouse button for me to be able to pivot my view about the pointer on the screen (also a few PC games I play would be much smoother if I could do this).I have all the latest drivers and firmware installed.I did find this thread that I thought might help me; Middle Mouse Button , however the screen shot at the bottom shows the Mouse Options on the Control Panel having a lot more option than it does for me, the only options I have are switching the left and right mouse buttons, double-click speed adjustment and ClickLock.The buttons assignment window that I get using the Razer software gives no more options other than to assign the forwards and backwards buttons ("Windows Button 4" and "Windows Button 5").

When it first came out as a matter of fact but now when I use ANYTHING that I want to print out (Like MapQuest.com)It will not print any more. I can fire up Fire fox and all printing works just fine. It didn't work even when I had didn't Fire Fox Installed. I just installed Fire Fox to try to see if it would work for my printing needs.why Internet explorer has stoped printing? Right after not printing the web page crashes also.

Everything was working fine until yesterday when Sony VAIO update popped up from the task tray and prompted me to update a bunch of things, which I did. The entire process was automated as it was one of those system updates. After the update, I restarted computer, and then all the function keys stopped working. E.g.pressing FN + F1-12 won't do anything. Before the update I was able to use FN + F3/4 to adjust volume, but now nothing happens. Does anyone know what's going on? None of the updates failed to install and I restarted computer just like it said, and I'm assuming all updates that need to be installed will pop up in either Windows Update or VAIO Update? My Win update says my computer is up to date as well.

I tell it to search for a simple file I KNOW is there and it does not bring it up. It brings up nothing. Infact it wont find anything on my computer at all. Seems 100% useless. So whats up with that? I never had issues with Windows search before, not with Vista, XP, or any other. is there a 3rd party search engine I can use to find stuff on my computer? I have almost 3TB of stuff, I can rarely remember where I have stored every single thing I would use.

Nothing has changed in my configuration since the first time. Scratching my head on this one. Tested the S-Video cord on my wife's vista OS laptop and worked fine. In fact, it was automatic!

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion tx2500z (model: KD436AV) laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed. Since last few months, I am not able to use default function keys (F1, F2...F12) and other keys at the top row of the keyboard, including Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, End, Insert, Delete. However, all the Action Keys available on these keys are working without pressing Fn Key (e.g. Sleep, Brightness, num lock etc). I get same Action Key behaviour even after pressing Fn Key.
It looks like, somehow system is locked in action key mode and I am not able to come out of it. I tried to upgrade Bios (currently on latest F.0F version) and also tried to disable the Action Key mode in BIOS, but Action Key mode is not available in BIOS of this computer. Even to enter BIOS, I faced problem because F10 key was not working to enter BIOS setup. I had to connect external keyboard to enter BIOS.
My windows clipboard has quit working. I can "cut", but it simply works as the delete function, and the "paste" function is always greyed out.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently renewed my internet security subscription. Immediately after doing so, the Calendar and Weather gadgets stopped working. The Calendar shows up as a blank orange/white square and opening up the Weather gadget will just reveal the "i" information symbol and a X close button, neither of which actually work.
Clock gadget also stopped working but then after an hour later it started working again and has been working since. I have tried deleting/uninstalling the gadgets but that hasn't worked. I have tried several tricks with the Windows command prompt which doesn't work either.
I'm considering using an automatic system restore (I don't have any manual saved points to restore) on just the gadgets themselves. Is that the way to go, or is there something else I could try? I've decided to name it: McAfee. I didn't at first, because it's been my experience whenever I mention a problem and mention an antiviral program.
I mention McAfee because it's an odd thing: I've searched forums and have found that others have had the almost the same problem; except with them it happens when you UNINSTALL McAfee, not renew it. I've also found another possible solution that involves deleting a registry key, but I'm way too nervous to try that.
When I start the computer it all seems normal until the desktop appears and the icons load. Before I can do anything I get a pop up saying Windows Explorer has stopped working. I have the option to restart windows or check on line for a solution. Both options give the same results. View 2 Replies View RelatedIt initially started when I downloaded a torrent that was a folder containing a video. Once the download had completed I attempted to open the folder but I got the message "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem", then a different windows pops up with "Windows explorer is restarting". After a few seconds the start bar vanishes then comes back almost immediately. I thought that possible the folder I had downloaded was corrupt so tried deleting it, but when I right clicked on the folder I got the same. I used a program called Glary utilities to permanently delete the folder and that did the trick.A few days passed and I used utorrent to download another, different video, which was also contained in a folder, and I am having the same message come up on this one - "Windows Explorer has stopped working - windows is checking for a solution to the problem" This is the only folder, as far as I'm aware, that this happens with. One time when I tried to open it the following came up instead of the usual "windows explorer has stopped" - The instruction at 0x0a04b890 referenced memory at 0x033f3d0e. The memory could not be read. Click on OK to terminate this program. run scndisk, chkdisk, spybot S&D, malwarebytes, Avast and Microsoft security essentials and some registry cleaners/fixers but nothing has helped. I also downloaded a program called "WER_Explorer" which apparently creates a dump file whenever the error occurs, but I can't open make any sense of it all. I downlaoded the above program from [URL]. I can access the folder when I run in safe mode, and the folder is shared on a home network and I can access it from my laptop.

So, i have to open that folder again and still this windows appear again. It's hard for me to open a folder because of this. I have tried the ways in the internet and it's not working at all.
