The first time I used the F5 function key on my Toshiba Satellite Notebook for S-Video link to my TV, the connection worked fine. Now it won't link. Nothing has changed in my configuration since the first time. Scratching my head on this one. Tested the S-Video cord on my wife's vista OS laptop and worked fine. In fact, it was automatic!

I tell it to search for a simple file I KNOW is there and it does not bring it up. It brings up nothing. Infact it wont find anything on my computer at all. Seems 100% useless. So whats up with that? I never had issues with Windows search before, not with Vista, XP, or any other. is there a 3rd party search engine I can use to find stuff on my computer? I have almost 3TB of stuff, I can rarely remember where I have stored every single thing I would use.

View 1 Replies View RelatedMany months ago I spent countless hours trying to troubleshoot the Hibernate/Sleep function on Windows 7 and eventually gave up. I subsequently had to reinstall Windows 7 on a reformatted drive and to my amazement from that day on the Hibernate function has worked It has continued without major problems until 48 hours ago. Because of the past problems, I have routinely made manual restore points at regular intervals and whenever the Hibernate mode faltered I have been able to wind back to a working state.One thing which has regularly messed with the Hibernate function has been a program called LP Recorder, for recording vinyl LPs. Having some LPs to record on Saturday evening I created a Restore Point prior to starting. Yesterday, after all the LPs were transferred to CD, I restored to Saturday's Restore Point but this time I have not restored the Hibernate function. Worse still is the fact that all my previous Restore Points have vanished without a trace.Since I worked on the LPs, I have not made any other changes to the system I am running, no programs have been installed or removed, in fact I have really not done a lot on the computer.

Everything was working fine until yesterday when Sony VAIO update popped up from the task tray and prompted me to update a bunch of things, which I did. The entire process was automated as it was one of those system updates. After the update, I restarted computer, and then all the function keys stopped working. E.g.pressing FN + F1-12 won't do anything. Before the update I was able to use FN + F3/4 to adjust volume, but now nothing happens. Does anyone know what's going on? None of the updates failed to install and I restarted computer just like it said, and I'm assuming all updates that need to be installed will pop up in either Windows Update or VAIO Update? My Win update says my computer is up to date as well.

The icon in my taskbar displays the red circle with the slash through it indicating that it has been "muted" when in fact it has not. I am still able to adjust the volume with the slider and that works fine, just not mute.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI my middle click function has stopped working on my mouse, at first I assumed it was a Chrome update and that I could no longer use it to "Open link in new tab" however it seems that it now does absolutely nothing and I am unable to reassign it. I used CAD software (Solidworks) that requires the middle mouse button for me to be able to pivot my view about the pointer on the screen (also a few PC games I play would be much smoother if I could do this).I have all the latest drivers and firmware installed.I did find this thread that I thought might help me; Middle Mouse Button , however the screen shot at the bottom shows the Mouse Options on the Control Panel having a lot more option than it does for me, the only options I have are switching the left and right mouse buttons, double-click speed adjustment and ClickLock.The buttons assignment window that I get using the Razer software gives no more options other than to assign the forwards and backwards buttons ("Windows Button 4" and "Windows Button 5").
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion tx2500z (model: KD436AV) laptop with Windows 7 64 bit OS installed. Since last few months, I am not able to use default function keys (F1, F2...F12) and other keys at the top row of the keyboard, including Pg Up, Pg Down, Home, End, Insert, Delete. However, all the Action Keys available on these keys are working without pressing Fn Key (e.g. Sleep, Brightness, num lock etc). I get same Action Key behaviour even after pressing Fn Key.
It looks like, somehow system is locked in action key mode and I am not able to come out of it. I tried to upgrade Bios (currently on latest F.0F version) and also tried to disable the Action Key mode in BIOS, but Action Key mode is not available in BIOS of this computer. Even to enter BIOS, I faced problem because F10 key was not working to enter BIOS setup. I had to connect external keyboard to enter BIOS.
I have upgraded to Internet explorer 9 a long time ago. When it first came out as a matter of fact but now when I use ANYTHING that I want to print out (Like MapQuest.com)It will not print any more. I can fire up Fire fox and all printing works just fine. It didn't work even when I had didn't Fire Fox Installed. I just installed Fire Fox to try to see if it would work for my printing needs.why Internet explorer has stoped printing? Right after not printing the web page crashes also.

I did this because my boot drive is an SSD and I wanted to limit some of the writes to it because of cookies, etc. So I setup a directory junction from my C drive (ssd) to my other regular hard drive. View 2 Replies View RelatedMy Nvidia 560 stopped working so while I was waiting for the replacement I was using my onboard Intel HD graphics. After I installed the new card, my monitor would not display anything unless it was connected to the onboard graphics. No big deal I thought. I booted into safe mode, removed all display drivers ( Nvidia and intel) and ran driver sweeper to remove the remnants. The computer booted with the monitor plugged into the 560 just fine in the crappy resolution. I installed the latest Nvidia drivers downloaded from the website.

I have used a Verto 9600GSO in a custom ASUS build without too many issues, but the other day I lost one of my two sticks of system RAM and now the video card isn't seen in the device manager. I can get video from the onboard video port, but nothing from the video card. The worst part is that I know the 9600GSO is in good working order as it worked flawlessly on another system, and another card worked as expected in this system. Why does it seem that my aftermarket 9600GSO doesn't want to work without both sticks of RAM?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have two different ATI cards installed in one system, each with their own 22" HP LCD. One is an ATI FireGL V5600 for my CAD applications and the other is an X1900XT for Left4Dead. When I ran Windows Update after I installed Windows 7, it immediately downloaded an updated driver for the V5600 (8.623, I think) but when it installed it, it disabled the X1900XT.
I went to the Device Manager, uninstalled the X1900XT, then Scanned for Hardware Changes, it finds the X1900XT, installs the driver and it works again. Unfortunately, it also reverts the driver for the V5600 back to 8.56.1.15 which isn't even a valid driver for the V5600 as seen on this page.
I'm not sure why I can't have independent drivers for each card. I know for a fact that this is supported in XP as I have my system dual booting with XP and it work perfectly there (see photo 1 and photo 2 it's hard to tell, but both of those screenshots are from XP with each card having independent drivers). The downside is that my CAD apps don't recognize the V5600 with driver 8.56.1.15 as the workstation card it is, and my graphics are severely crippled in those apps.
I would like to report this to Microsoft, but unlike in RC1 there is no way to report a bug.
