Msdia80.dll On My F: ( Files Drive )

Aug 11, 2009

Mr. Google gave me this link ( FIX: The Msdia80.dll file is installed in the root folder of the boot drive when you install the Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package by using the Vcredist_x64.exe file or the Vcredist_ia64.exe file ) and i tried the solution and its an epic failure it gives me an error saying:

The module "driver:program" failed to load

Does anyone know the correct fix for this under 7 ultimate or can i just delete this file right away? Also the VC folder is not there by default.

Msdia80.dll File?

Sep 26, 2010

I think I know where this came from; the reality is that it is now located at the root of my Storage drive (while the *apparently* correct version Msdia90.dll is in the VC folder). I am not sure what I am supposed to do with this now, if not simply remove it to the Recycle Bin.Is there a definitive solution to this issue (I have not seen any problems with the PC just wondering if I need to be proactive)?

Allow Access To Save/edit Files In C Drive (System Drive)

Dec 18, 2009

I'm really hoping I find an answer to this question besides the one I've found on the internet a hundred times over (That's not a good idea, you shouldn't do it).

My question is: Is there a way to allow a user to create/edit files in the C drive (system drive), and in the Program Files contained there? Let's assume that this user is not only a local admin, but a domain admin as well.

The reason for this is I work for a company that does a lot of editing within these areas of Windows. We need to be able to create and edit files where they are stored. I know one way around we've found is to copy the item out of the folder, edit it, and put it back, but this is a pain in the butt.

I also know that most program need to "run as admin", so that's not the problem either. I've given this user every right and permission in the Security tab of the C drive, and had it propagate down through all files, folders, and sub-folders, and still I'm hit with an error that says "Access is Denied" or another one saying that I don't have the right privileges.

Please, if anyone knows how to change this in 7 it would be much appreciated. I know that this worked in XP, and I'm not looking for someone to tell me "this is a bad idea so don't do it", or "maybe it didn't work right in XP". I have seen enough of these.

UPDATE: I have been playing around with saving office and wordpad documents into the C drive, and into the Program files. It seems that I'm able to do both now (for some odd reason), but I still receive intermittent errors when trying to edit or copy/paste or cut/paste from one location to another.

Windows Drive Full But Can't Find Any Files On The Drive?

Mar 21, 2012

Recently my wife caught a virus on her computer (HP touchsmart windows 7 home premium). Your typical virus program that sends hundreds of pop up screens and says click this for full removal, blah blah blah. Anyways I used malwarebytes to see if the program could be removed, malwarebytes found 5 problems and I removed them. Afterward I noticed that there were no icons on the screen, I tried to bring up task manager and the computer rebooted. once the computer rebooted, there was a black screen with "no operating system found".

I tried the "repair your computer" option on the Windows 7 disk, but it was not able to repair the problem automatically, I also tried some manual command scan prompts that I found on the net. None of this has worked so far.

I figured that I would take the hdd out of her computer and dock it to another computer. The hard drive connected fine, but when I tried to open it there was nothing in there. I tried to make sure that all files were not hidden (they weren't). Funny thing is when I click on properties for the drive it shows that the drive is 2/3rds full but I can't see any files or information when I try to search the drive. I also just tried copying the hard drive to another harddrive and it was copying files but once I opened the new location, it was still empty (even thought the folder said in properties 84 gigs).

Is there something that I am missing, I would like to retrieve all of her documents, pictures etc. then I could reformat that drive and re-install windows if I can not get it to boot back up correctly.

FIles Copied To 2nd Drive Gone?

Jun 21, 2012

I have a very important question about files I copied on to a different drive.I copied all my data(user account) from my C drive to my E drive. The E drive already had data on it before and has plenty of room.I saw that the data was copied then I did a "Windows Easy File Transfer" of the same C User data and also put it on the E drive. The windows easy transfer made one file. Then I reinstall Window 7 Pro on to C drive. I booted up the computer and looked in the E drive for my data, but Windows changed that drive to F from E. I looked in F and there were the files, but I could click on them. I rebooted the computer and upon boot-up the computer wanted to do and chdsk on F and I let it. Now I cannot see those files that I copied before the reinstall, but I can see the other files that were on that drive. Also the used space does not add up to what the drive says, so I think the files are there, just cannot see them.how I can get those files back.

Corrupt Files On USB Drive?

Dec 14, 2010

I have a bit of an odd problem, I have an external USB 640gb hard drive (Freecom ToughDrive with Password encryption software removed using Freecom tool), I use it at home (on a new dell Windows 7 64 bit PC) to store all my dataIf I take the drive into the office and plug it into my machine there (Windows XP) I can read all the files, copy them off, no problem, same with my Windows 7 (64 bit) laptop that I have at home as well and on my Mum's (windows 7) laptop. The problem is that if I open a file on any of the non home PC's (a word document or a JPG etc) if I then save changes to the file, when I try to open it on the home machine it either says it is corrupted/unreadable or that in the case of a folder of documents I copied on yesterday in the office - that the folder contents were not accessible.

I have just tried opening a word (2003) doc that I saved on the drive in the office yesterday on my home machine and word shows that it is goobledygook, I have closed the file (without saving or editing on the home machine) unplugged the drive and plugged the drive into my windows 7 laptop and when I view the folder with the word file in, the file has now gone...I have also noticed that when I have created this 'corrupted' file situation, when I then plug the drive into a different machine I get the windows "scan and fix" option. I have done that in the past and it has 'found' all the files that I corrupted on the other machines and stuck them in a $found folder as though there was actual hard drive corruption.Until about 6 months ago I had a Windows XP machine and have been working with an external USB drive for years switching it between many different machines - I thought it was the drive (I originally had a freecom toughdrive 320gb) at first so I replaced that about 2 months ago when I realised what was going on but it hasn't made any difference.

Files From External Drive

Jun 7, 2012

When you open a file (document, audio, photo, etc.) from an external drive (such as a USB drive or external disk drive), do any remnants of that file remain on the hard drive of the computer on which you opened it? I am mainly concerned with Windows based systems.I ask this because I am borrowing a laptop from a friend and some of the files on a USB drive are personal documents and family photos which I would prefer not to leave behind.I know document names will remain in recent documents on some versions of Windows and that's fine, but is there an actual copy of a file kept temporarily on a hard drive on any Windows version? The machine I am using has Windows 7 32-bit on it.

DVD-RW Drive Not Recognizing .exe Files

Jun 25, 2011

I have a Lite-On LightScribe 24X SATA DVD+/-RW Dual Layer Drive IHAS424-98 that I recently installed on a brand new computer that I built myself. I am running win 7 64 bit. I have been having problems with auto play and I thought it might have been the drive so I ordered another drive and its doing it with that one too.

What is happening is when I insert a software CD or DVD windows typically would autoplay the setup.exe or whatever the .exe file is (depending on your autoplay settings). Well, for some reason my computer is not even seeing those files. If I browse the DVD I can open the file that way but for some reason autoplay cannot see the setup.exe file to auto start it. My Autoplay settings are all on default except the software one which is set to install. For some reason it seems that every DVD or CD I enter is recognized as a mixed content cd and the default action when double clicking the drive icon in my computer is to launch the folder with all the files in it. Also, typically if its a software cd or dvd the drive icon changes to the exe file's icon. Mine doesn't and remains the same. The name changes from DVD RW Drive (F: ) to DVD RW Drive (f: ) OFFICE12......(this is office 2007 CD). I searched google and everywhere for any similar problems but could not find any solutions. I have tried everything. And so everyone knows the CDs/DVDs I run all have the autorun.inf file

Extracting Hidden Files From Old Drive

Apr 30, 2012

I have backed up all the files and emails from a faulty hard drive before inserting a new one and setting up Windows on it. However, because the drive was in such a bad way, I did't run Outlook to extract the email account settings - and now realise that these are hidden in the registry. I have tried importing the registry files (after doing some research on this), but cannot find the registry section which contains it.

Now that the the new drive is fully running (apart from the email account settings) - Windows Vista upgraded to Windows 7 - would it be too risky to re-insert the drive in the laptop to run Outlook and get the settings recorded ? I am concerned that it will cause error messages when I re-insert the brand new drive. I have thought about booting up a computer from the faulty drive, but think it may refuse to load because it's a different PC to one it came out of (Dell XPS M1530) - is this the case ?
