I am having a problem connecting using an Ethernet cord to the internet. It was working fine a couple days ago, then all the sudden stopped. I don't think I did anything different. Ran ipconfig, which is below. Have uninstalled/installed the network driver, looked up other fixes (reset the TCP/IP stack) but nothing has worked.

My internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.

I managed to install USB wireless adapter (Airties WUS-300) successfully into Windows 7 RC and it works great, but there is a problem.
Whenever I safely remove my ThumbDrive or mobile HDD from any of the USB ports, the USB wireless adapter would lost wireless connection. I have the exact hardware setup but I don't face this issue using Windows XP.
I've tried numerous workarounds and still no luck.
This problem is very annoying and driving me crazy. What could be the issue?
Can any gurus advice?

This is the story. I upgraded to Win 7 from Vista on two computers and in one of them the network kept getting disconnected. So I got a new network adapter from the compatible list and tried. It kept happening. It worked fine for a while and then it just lost the network. The computer was also freezing and crashing and never shutting down, so I decided to do a clean install.
It's not freezing as much it still does, and the shutting down takes forever if it happens at all, and I keep loosing the connection to the network.

From all my research this doesn't look possible, but I thought I would ask anyway.Environment:- Windows domain environment - 2 2008 R2 AD servers, 1 2003 AD server, 2003 functional level for now- Mostly XP machines, new medical tablets and all-in-one pcs will have windows 7 32-bitIs there a way to auto log off disconnected client user sessions in windows 7? I know there is a way to log off disconnected sessions in terminal services using an idle timer, but from everything I've read you can't do this on a client. I found Grim's screen saver log off solution here and it works if no one uses the fast user switching ability. My problem is that the medical tablets probably will not sit long enough for the auto log off to kick in. A user will come by pick up a machine that the last user didn't log off (and never will, even if I tell them they will lose their jobs if they don't!) and do a switch user function, leaving a disconnected session. This will probably happen multiple times, leaving many disconnected sessions and a slow device. I would disable fast user switching, but our single sign on software must have fast user switching enabled in order to function properly. So much so that it overrides group policy and registry edits.

I have a laptop w/Windows 7, we also have 2 other laptops using 7 and one using XP. We are constantly getting disconnected from our wireless internet. Sometimes it will show that it's connected but then show "no internet access". We also have a Wii, PS3, 2 iTouches and 2 iPhones. Could we be overloading our wireless router? It probably happens at least 2 times a day. We are always having to unplug router and modem and starting over. I've reset the router several times but still have same issue.

I have an HP G60 laptop with preloaded Windows 7 Home Premium. The OS has been fully patched till date, and guaranteed to have no viruses. I have MS Security Essentials and Super Anti Spy-ware installed and working. Lately I notice that each time I close the cover and open it back the OS resumes all right but the internet connection is lost. No amount of trouble shooting through Windows helps. Of course rebooting solves the problem. My internet connection is through a Scientific Atlanta cable modem connected through the LAN connector, and so requires no drivers.

I've been wondering if Windows 7 has capabilities to trigger sound alarm when the network connection icon in the bottom right corner changes due to internet/network disconnection. I guess, in theory, Task Scheduler should come in handy, but first, the correct Event ID for the above-mentioned change needs to be determined. I couldn't find it yet. I found a standalone program NetSNSOR that can trigger alarm. However, a built-in process would be more useful.

I've discovered an odd issue with my computer. When there is no internet connection, it goes extremely slow. Simple programs such as VLC and ACDSee took something like 10 seconds to open. These programs are also installed on an SSD which makes these figures even worse than they would normally seem. Anyway I figured it was an issue I could fix with a reboot, however when windows was starting up, at the point where the desktop would finally appear, black screen. I can ctrl+alt+del to open task manager and I could see that there were 6 processes open, and nothing else was continuing to load. Safe mode with networking suffered the same problems.
At some point I disconnect the computer from the router, intuition I guess, and viola! Everything starts loading fine within 10s of disconnecting it from the router. I restarted multiple times with it disconnected, connected, disconnecting after few mins of black screen to confirm that it was the issue, and it indeed is. Same thing happened with Safemode with networking. Disabling the NIC seems to fix the issue as well. And of course when the internet came back on, it works perfectly fine.

Windows 7 Prof 32 bit, with Office 2003 SP3 on a Dell laptop. Everything works fine when on the network and connected. If the user takes the laptop offsite without shutting it down first and still has mapped drives when he tries to save a document the drop down menu will hang any Office app.To explain a bit more... in the Save As dialog box, the drop down menu to change locations it was freezes it up. After about 30 seconds or so the menu will finally appear and the application will be happy again. The user doesn't have that kind of patience though. This isn't a new issue, I've found its due to the mapped network drives being unreachable. I do not have this problem in XP, only Windows 7. This is very annoying to the user. Short of removing the mapped drives with a script that the users has to run when they leave the office what can I do? I've looked around the web a lot and can't find much more than "disconnect the mapped drives" and I dont think of that as a solution so much as a work around.
The user is the CEO of the company I work for and he often uses his laptop at home, then gets in the car and uses it on his way to the office (obviously he isn't driving himself) and then gets into the office and wants his drives to just magically workAlso, trying to change how he uses the laptop won't work either. This is not a tech savvy user. This user also resist change (obviously, still using Office 2003)

I set up a dual boot of Ubuntu and Windows 7 on my lenovo u330 laptop a couple months ago and everything was working fine. That was till I found a problem with the wireless when switching from Ubuntu over to 7. I found that if I left the wireless off in Ubuntu and restart to 7, the wireless is completely disconnected in 7. Later I learned that if I enabled the wireless in Ubuntu and restart into 7, the wireless works fine. Now, the major problem is that the Ubuntu 11.04 update completely screwed the Ubuntu installation. The graphics nor the internet worked after the update so basically I'm stuck with the wireless off in Windows 7.
Also, I deleted the Ubuntu partition to possibly reinstall it but another problem is that I got the install from a friend (who isn't around). Someone told me that Ubuntu actually shuts down the wireless card at the hardware level. Any low level way of enabling the wireless adapter in Windows 7? ipconfig gives me the "Media disconnected" message on all of the adapter connections. I have already tried reinstalling wireless drivers as well and none of the Windows 7 troubleshooting apps work whatsoever.

I have an iPhone 4 which has internet tethering. I can either connect this via the USB cable or wirelessly via my intel 6300N wifi card.
When I connect to my laptop via USB cable, the 'Set Network Location' box comes up, which I select Home Network. It is simply named 'Network', but I then go in and change 'Network' to 'iPhone'. This then shows up in the Network and Sharing Centre as iPhone on a Home Network. This works perfectly, is super fast and when I'm finished, I disconnect the USB and shut down.
When I next turn on my laptop and connect my iPhone internet tether via USB cable, I am once again asked to ''Select a location for the 'Network' network''. Windows 7 netwkr and Sharing centre isn't recognising the same iPhone is connected and asks me to set up a home network again.
I've gone into 'Merge or delete network locations' and the original 'iPhone home network' is set up (not in use) as well as the new 'Network' location that it's asking me to set up. If I merge the second 'Network' and original 'iPhone network', this removes the second network and I'm left with the 'iPhone Home network (in use).
If I disconnect the iPhone and reconnect, it asks me each time to select a network location for the 'network' network. If I don't merge them, I end up with Network 2, Network 3, Network 4 etc all the while still having the original iPhone network not in use as well as any other not merged or deleted.
Why won't it recognise the same iPhone as being connected and selecting the iphone home network that I set up and why does it keep asking me to create a new one whenever I connect?
This never happened before, with my laptop previously recognising the iPhone home network I originally created ages ago. There has been no significant updates or changes that I'm aware of, except that I updated my iPhone software, bt this has been done in the past numerous times with previous iPhone updates and hasn't happened before.
I have a Virgin wireless broadband usb modem, which the system recognises each time I connect it. It's only the iPhone connection that's not saving. The iPhone network is 'unmanaged' but so is the Virgin Broadband USB.
I have a Pioneer Dreambook P170HMx running Windows 7pro x64. If there's any other details you need, I'm happy to supply them. All I want is my system to save the network configuration and recognise when I connect the iPhone tethering that it's an already created iPhone Home Network.
