When ever i have any type of screen open (i.e. the internet, a game, word, Photoshop, ect.) and i hit the caps lock key, my computer takes me off of the program i was using. It did not exit out of it, its just the same as if you are typing, click on the task bar, then have to re-click on the computers window of the program to continue using it. This is very annoying when it comes to typing long essays.
I don't know if I hit some key combo or what but I was typing a letter in word pad and suddenly my typing is in all caps. I have used a reg file to disable my caps lock key on this laptop because it gets in my way - a long time ago. I know it cannot be the caps lock key. I do not have a shift key sticking.
I saved the letter, then copied it to Polyedit another word processor, and it still types in all caps. Firefox does not seem to be effected. I even tried rebooting and nothing helped.
When I hit Caps Lock in Windows 7 an alert (picture of a padlock in grey) icon appears indicating I have turned it on or off. While the alert is showing no input from the keyboard is accepted. This is frustrating because I usually hit Caps Lock and type immediately, and then find about 6 letters have not been accepted. The speed of the system (laptop) is otherwise OK. Is there a way to reduce the time the alert shows, or turn it off altogether?
I use two keyboard layouts on my computer--English and Russian. I switch between the two using left Ctrl+Shift. I want to remap my keyboard so that in both keyboard layouts my "caps lock" key does nothing and my "insert" key becomes a caps lock key.
Attached are a couple of screen shots of what I currently have in my registry under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Keyboard Layout.
using windows 7 home premium 64bit with office xp, while typing a letter, halfway through I noticed that caps lock was on but the caps lock light indicator was not, whether I have the caps lock button pressed or not I just write in capital letters and as this is a business letter I don't want that so I must have pressed some button
I recently bought a SAMSUNG 300E5A Series 3 which included Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.he computer itself runs brilliant and I have no problems with it. What does irritate me completely is the annoying pop-up that occurs when you press the caps lock button
A week ago I spilled some water inside my laptop keyboard. At the beginning I couldn't type at all, but now the only problem I have is whenever I click the "n" or "b" keys the caps lock turns on (but the letters appear). Clicking on the actual caps lock key doesn't work.
I think the solution wouldn't be to map the caps lock key, but to completely disable its function (as if caps lock function doesn't exists in the system).
I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise, and my laptop is HP Pavilion dv9750
On my laptop I don't get the quick image on my screen when I turn my caps lock on/off like I do when I turn my mute on/off, brightness up/down or sound up/down. It's quite annoying as there is no light on my keyboard or anything to tell me so if I have to find out whether I've got caps lock on I have to type something into a text box where the text is visible (unlike a secret password box).
I've played several games on Windows 7 now. Every game I've played I have had problems when I hit the caps lock key. When I push it the computer goes back to the desktop and then two things will happen. I can't even go back to the game when clicking the icon on the taskbar or when I click on the icon the game will open back up within a window (instead of full screen). The game that won't open back up is operation flashpoint: dragon rising and the game that opens in a window is assassins creed. This doesn't seem to be a problem others are experiencing, because I can't find any information on the issue. Also I believe it's a Windows 7 issue rather than my hardware because it never happened when using Vista.
My setup: OS Name Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Version 6.1.7600 Build 7600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation System Name STUDIOXPS System Manufacturer Dell Inc. System Model Studio XPS 1640
I'm playing a lot and when using mumble, I use a "Push to talk" function. The problem is that I need a key which interacts with nothing else, as I also talk when on IRC, on browsing the net. how to create another key (brand new, without any use) so I can use it on Mumble as Push-to-Talk key?
I'll be in a game, and press caps. The window will minimize. This has never happened before. Also, when I click my cursor into a bar to type, then press caps, the blinking cursor thing goes away, and I must re click into the bar to continue typing.
I guess I may have accidentally disabled some drivers or something, but I have been doing everything I could to get it back, but I failed.1. I tried restoring it using ATKpackage .. repaired + complete reinstall. ( my laptop is an Asus )2. Tried entering keyboard settings, but couldn't find a related option.3. Tried editing the registry -->HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Widcomm > BTConfig > General > KeyIndicationBut mine is already at "1", not "0" .
I'm thinking that my computer possibly overheated while I was on it, since it randomly shut down. I tried to see if my laptop would die I could start it up, but still I get no screen nothing everything is black, my pc disc tray won't open the caps lock button just keeps blinking. I tried taking the battery out connecting to ac still no luck:
Every time I press caps lock, to turn on or turn off, I can't keep typing until some process completes. The icon for capson/capsoff comes onscreen, and while it's there I can't keep typing, until some time passes.
issue has affected me so badly that I have had to put my studies on hold.About 2 weeks ago I bought a Samsung Series7 chronos 14 inch netbook with windows7 and I am happy with it and the system but every time I turn caps on or off (which is often as I write and use caps a lot) the big display pops up saying caps on caps off; as well as being annoying to the extreme for me,it stops me typing for a couple of seconds.I have googled this issue and even gone to another forum, someone said to me to contact the manufacturer (aka samsung) and samsung has given me a link from a forum as an answer.Nothing I have tried has worked so far. There is mention of it being a software driver issue,to go to regedit and the like.I set some value key to 0 and didn't work. Can anyone give me a solution and be clear with the answer and treat me like a beginner and explain what to do with clear steps?I am about to have a breakdown and frustrated as I fail to see who thought this pop up display is of any use? and why force it/impose it on the user?
i was on my laptop and it randomly turned black and acted like i shut the lid so basically it went into sleep mode. so i had to close the lid and then open it again to make it turn back on. so after it started working again it started acting pretty strangely i already went into full details on this Internet video by recording it then using the annotations so.
Internet - whats wrong and don't say its a virus 100% sure its not a virus. for the others that dont want to watch the video its basically really glitching i can't click my bookmark page in google chrome i cant grab the scroll bar in ie and the start menu is super glitchy it seems like the code or something is messed up. it goes away sporadically too.
I hope someone can help me because I am completely stumped! I noticed these malfunctioning drivers, but I have no idea what they are for or where they came from. I googled and got absolutely zero results. After not being able to find ANY information, I made a restore point and uninstalled them. They were gone for a few hours or so after rebooting but reappeared! Now it's multiple drivers and I still have no clue of their origin or purpose. Nothing else seems to be affected and the computer is running the same as always. I would still like to get rid of them, though, and I am at a complete lost. I ran virus and malware scans and both were clear.
I have been having problems with my computer not showing the windows contents while dragging. About once every 2 weeks, I will turn on my computer and that function will be disabled. So what I would do is go to Computer Properties -> Advanced System Settings -> Performance Settings, and then check the "Show window contents while dragging checkbox.
Today however, in the last 2 hours, the function has just disabled itself 3 times already. Everytime, I go through the same process to turn it on and it just won't stick for more than an hour.
I tried booting into safe mode to scan for malware and viruses but I cannot go into safe mode just by tapping f8 right before windows starts. I have tried many times but to no avail. I think it is broken because the only way I can go into safe mode is via msconfig, but I would like to avoid that. Also, the volume does not go down, only up, and I have tried using both the function keys and the main volume control. It will go down but it goes up again by itself.
Why would Windows insist on all capitals for USB disk names? If I rename it changes to capital casing. In explorer and in a command window: Code: C:>label f: usbdisk it becomes "USBDISK" in explorer. What gives?
I lost this function in the lower taskbar and the volume control blue line indicator on the lower part of my screen. I'm running Windows 7. How can I get it back?
When i walk away from my Windows 7 PC, i'd like to lock the screen for good security and put it to sleep for good energy savings. Doesn't that make sense, at least in some situations? But if you lock it, you can't sleep it, and if you put it to sleep, then you can't lock it.
Probably most people lock it and allow it to go to sleep later after a timeout period. But we could all be greener if there were a way to do both sleep and lock at the same time. win7q has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
The issues come when I leave the PC overnight, idling, with the monitor physically turned off (I use the power button). When I come back in the morning and turn the monitor back on, there is a black screen and the PC won't wake.I have left the computer idling during the day for many hours with the monitor being in standby (PC turns it off, not me).Interestingly, when the PC "hangs" after the night I can still access stuff over the network, and play some videos on my TV which is DLNA-ed to it. Logs do not show any issues, in fact there is some logging going on all night meaning the PC isn't totally dead. However, I try plugging some USB devices in and out, but it doesn't make that USB recognition noise.
Things I have tried:
- playing around with power settings, ie. disabling USB turn-off, disabling ULPS on my vid card (ultra-low-power-savings mode), changing the screen turn-off times, turning sleep and hybernate/hybrid off
- note it is NOT a taskbar auto-hide issue. If you are having crashing problems after idling (still able to access PC for 10s of seconds before it freezes), be sure to check out information on the auto-hide of the taskbar
Other info:
- I run utorrent overnight As a test, I turned my monitor off (physically) during the day, and came back to a "hung" system. I think this may be the root of the issue but it's still driving me up a wall because it's such a weird problem. I have to keep trouble shooting the issue to be certain. Furthermore, my main concern, and the reason for writing this post, is that I want to make sure this is not some hardware issue that is later going to progressively get worse. To me it doesn't seem like a hardware thing, but maybe there are some experts out there who can shed some light.
I have recently installed windows 7 home premium and never set a password upon installation (it's a home pc and didn't feel the need to - bad call I'm sure!).Anyway...I restarted my pc today and it is now asking for a password. I have no idea what this could be. I tried everything I know...I did not install any new software. I did however install windows updates. Do you have any idea what happened and why it's asking me for a password? Is there some default password? I did a google search for quite a while and found nothing.
