View 1 Replies View RelatedI am preparing for MCTS 70-680 (Win 7 configuration exam) for doing labs I am using VMware workstation 7. Every thing is going OK but when I try to copy the created image wim file to destination computer. On that particular destination computer I cannot access the e: drive in which I have the Windows PE (pre environment) disk.
The command I use is like that :
x:e:imagex.exe /apply f:capturedimage.wim 1 c:
I got error the system cannot find the drive specified.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit The windows system image backed up on my external hard drive (2TB WD USB3) is not showing while restoring the PC from an image.
The only option available is my hard drive partition on which i also had saved a system image. Though windows recommends External hard drive for backing up image when backing up the system.
I use a dual boot system win 7 ultimate and xp sp3.now win 7 does not boot but can log on to xp. I did not create a system recovery image of win 7 and turned off system restore. Ihave no installation disk. So my only option is to create a system recovery image from xp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an external enclosure. Could anyone point to me where to go and read in point blank detail step by step how to:
1. Make a mirror image backup copy of the pc hard drive including partitions and the OS..
2. How to set it in such a way that I could save the eventual changes produced in that backed up copy by doing in future just an incremental back up each time (of only what has changed since the previous backup).I am running Windows 7 Home 64-bit.
I swear I am hitting every problem possible with this computer!! After much frustration for two days, I have done a clean Win 7 Ultimate install. I am running a SSD/HDD combo. Intel Rapid Storage kept flagging my mechanical drive as faulty (even after I reset it back to normal). I got tired of the message and just turned off the feature... I have been having trouble making a backup image. I REALLY need a backup disk since I had to turn off "System Restore Points" so that it wouldn't bloat my SSD. I noticed that it will successfully go through making a backup of my C drive (the SSD) and when it hits the mechanical drive, the backup will fail and I will get the 0x8078015b error.
Does anyone know how to fix this or what I can do to make a backup without using the Win 7 utility? Is my mechanical drive really faulty?? Is it my external that I am trying to make the backup to being faulty?I saw someone else with this same problem and even after getting all new drives twice, the problem persisted and it never seemed to get resolved... My HDD is a WD Caviar Black 750 GB. I really need this computer up and running ASAP and as I have purchased the mech.

I have tried file shredder, chkdsk, defrag, and ran an elevated command prompt and deleted the 8.3 name, but still there.

View 5 Replies View RelatedMy 750gb hard disk is failing on a HP laptop that came preloaded with Windows 7 home prem. I have a SMALLER excellent 500gb, 7200 rpm hard disk that I'd like to replace the failing hard disk with. I've read that my Windows 7 System Repair DVD will not restore my recent system image (on NAS) to a smaller partition. The C:partition on the failing drive is well over 600gb but can shrink to 300gb. QUESTION Can I restore a system image from my larger drive "as is". If not, and I shrink my C: partition (contain windows) ay 350GB will I be able to restore the system image to where windows will boot?I have an old copy of (7.0) partition magic that I used to resize partitions on XP machines Can this old 32 bit partition magic safely resize my C: partition. If so, and I create a new system image can I restore it to the new disk?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI am Last night when I get home go to start computer and there is a error about missing dll file, then aas I click the error more missing file errors keep coming up, gets progressively worse until PC does not start windows. Ok, that's cool, I have backup and disk image on another drive in computer, no problem right, WRONG!!!
So pop in the windows 7 disk, go to restore disk image, error!!! Got a few errors while trying once I got one when I checked of not to include one of the disk, the one I keep getting is that there is not enough space on drive for restore. Now the disk the image is on is 150 GB, the disk trying to put it on is 500 GB, so why the problem???
So keep searching on my laptop and find a suggestion to do diskpart-clean. Go through every suggestion I found to use diskpart such as clean. Still not working. I install Windows 7 on the drive which works, install backup files and is there. But I want the image to restore. So in the new install I cant get it to do a image restore, so I try from Windows 7 CD again, Fail.
Our small office has several laptops, some with Intel chips, some with AMD. I'm trying to find a way to create an image for each laptop type that would include Windows 7 and MS Office.
I've looked around a bit, and I'm finding plenty of info on creating the Windows 7 image, but can't really find anything in layman terms for also including MS Office and any other necessary programs (snagit, Adobe Reader, etc.) to include or how to include, in the image.
Obviously, free (shareware) software is good to do the job in order to keep the cost down. I think I might even have a copy of WinPE I inherited from the person that was there before me, unfortunately, no documentation....Like I said, I've never done this before and I could use a step-by-moron-proof-step process if one actually exists...
I have a Windows 7 machine that i have installed on it all the neccesery programs that i need. I have about 10 computers with the same hardware that i would like to put on them the same Windows 7 as i have in the prototype machine. My question is:
1: what kind of porgram can i use in order to do that easly.
2: my windows 7 is activated with a KMS server on my network, is it suppose to be a problem?
I make use of the Windows 7 Backup and Restore programs.
Automatically everyday a backup is scheduled.
This backup is configured to contain all user files and a system image.
Now I have tried to find the system image, but I don't know what file extension the image backup should have.
In my backup folder, below, only two .VHD files are present, and a bunch of XML Documents.
X:\WindowsImageBackup\XXXX\Backup 2009-11-04 160010
Can someone explain me in which files the backup and restore programs save the backups?
Also I like to know where I should look for, to know for sure my backup is done successfully.

View 0 Replies View RelatedI just purchased an Asus X54C laptop that came with 7-64bt, the first thing I did was run the backup/restore and created a system image roughly 24gb in size on my logical partition of the HD.
I then installed the customer preview of Windows 8, which I was under the impression defaulted a dual-boot setup as long as you have Windows 7 and choose to keep all of your existing data, which I did.
Long story short, my Asus didn't come with the restore media, which I guess a lot of laptops don't come with. So, I was able to get a copy of Windows 7 so I can at least install over my Windows 8 so I can then start over with my backup that I created.
The version of Windows 7 is x86, but my backup is x64, I restarted into the restore screen and was shown that yes I have the image for the C drive, but I cannot restore for some reason.
Do I need to be on Windows 7 x64 to use my restore image?
