Logon Screen User Picture Size?

Jun 23, 2010

I was wondering if there is a way in which you can change the size of the user picture in the logon screen... What I mean here... is that, no matter the picture you use for it, the logon screen shows it at a "fixed" size... but sometimes, it is shown in a little frame, while in other PC's, you can see it bigger... I don't know if it's matter of resolutions... I hope I'm getting understood. is there a way to control or change that?See ya!!!

Windows 7 User Logon Picture Changed On Its Own?

Oct 22, 2010

I'm fairly technical and was a network and tech Director for a few years so have some familiarity with prior Windows versions but Win 7 is a bit new to me. I went to login today, and my login picture had been changed. Looking in Windows Event Viewer under Security, I can see it occurred at 12:25 in the morning. I was on another computer at that time, and running a utility from Microsoft on the PC in question that just collects system information.I was trying to figure out why it changed and reviewing the event logs. I don't see the reason, only that an account change occurred. I replicated it by changing my picture again to another one, and the same system event occurred confirming its identity. So basically, I had a flower as the login picture. On its own, it changed to a fish. I didn't make the change. I wasn't even using this machine at that time; however a Windows utility from MS was running -- but -- I reran that same utility tonight (it's one that just reports system usage) and it did not change the picture so I believe that is coincidence. why would Windows 7 change the default logon picture for a user on its own to something else? To help with information the utility that MS had me run was the Microsoft Product Support Reports.

There are also multiple instances on this computer, the one where the picture changed on its own, of another PC that was running Windows 2000 logging into it as a SYSTEM, and then logging back out, then in and out continuously but not in a pattern that would make me think it was a process. My other machines on the network do not have that issue in the log file.I checked the McAfee Firewall, and it was enabled. It has been catching attempts to login to VNC but they've been denied. VNC is also disabled.

Changing Logon Screen Background?

Mar 10, 2012

I'm trying to change the background for the log-on screen for Windows 7 Home Premium. I tried the method explained here [URL](and on other websites), but when I navigated to the backgrounds folder, I wasn't able to add a new picture or delete the current one.I downloaded the Tweaks.com Logon Changer [URL], but it only gives me the choice between pictures in C: / Windows / Web / Wallpaper. And I can't add any pictures there either (nothing happens after I give administrator permission).

Program For Changing Logon Screen

Sep 29, 2009

I used a very simple program in August when the RTM first came out to change the logon screen without having to deal with the registry. Now I can't find it; it was something that didn't require installation, because it doesn't appear in the start menu. Just needed to point to the jpg I wanted and it changed it for me. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Eh, I just found it online again: Windows 7 Logon Background Changer - Customize your Windows 7 welcome screen wallpaper.

Changing Logon Screen To Classic Windows Look?

Oct 21, 2011

I have been looking for a way to change the logon screen to more of a classic windows look, without success. Then the other day I saw this image on a blog: [URL]. That is basically what I would like to have. DSurely that is a modified logon screen? It does say "Copyright 2008 Microsoft...", so maybe this is from one of the earlier builds of 7?

Changing Windows 7 Logon Screen To Only Show Second Account?

Sep 29, 2012

My father's girlfriend is giving this Toshiba laptop to my father, and I'm charged with setting this up.Starting off, the only (non-Guest) account has been:

[HerName]
Administrator

I created:

[HisName]
Adminsitrator

So when you boot up Windows 7, it lands here:

[HerName] [HisName]
Administrator Adminstrator

1) To put [HisName] first, on the left?or better yet, 2) Remove [HerName] from the logon screen, keeping the account so it can be switched to?

Black Screen After User Logon In Windows 7

Aug 17, 2012

I recently just battled the virus Win32:Small-NNE [trj] from the Anti-Phishing Domain Adviser program that was installed, without my knowledge. Now that it is removed and I am declared virus free by Avast, Malwarebyes and Spybot Search and Destroy I started my computer up in normal mode. However, after logging in it is just black with a white cursor. I have two monitors, but in case it matters there is only one cursor and it can move to either screen. I cannot access crtl + alt + del for the task manager and it just sits and sits. I didn't have the patience to wait more than ten minutes because I know its not supposed to do that. Prior to the virus issue it booted in less than thrity seconds all the way to my desktop. Oh, and the time from log-in to supposed desktop screen is longer than usual but still not more than a minute or two. is this repairable or did the virus do permanent damage to my pc? If it is, please please instruct me on how to fix it, since it does still run in safe mode.

Autologon To Your User Bypassing Logon Screen

Nov 26, 2009

(for new users to windows 7 - old hands will know this already of course).

If you are the normal / only user of a machine / the user who uses it most you can STILL keep your password but you can enable the Auto logon which will bypass the initial User logon screen where you have to enter a password.

Log On Automatically at Startup

1) Menu ==> Run (or press Windows + R keys)

2) enter control userpassword2

3) click advanced

4) unclick users have to enter a password box

5) enter your user name and password at the box

(You can go the other way too -- click advanced and you can enforce users to press CTRL ALT DEL to logon).

You can still lock the computer of course etc where your password needs to be entered etc - nothing changes there - only the logon.

This can be fine if you need some services to start after you've logged on and you need to RDP remotely after your machine is re-booted.

Send User To Logon Screen After 15 Minute Idle?

Dec 9, 2012

I am versed in group policy and recently applied screensavers with idle lockouts, but would rather the user is just kicked back to the login screen after idle timer is reached. How can I accomplish this?

In the registry settings, the SCRNSAVE.EXE has to be set to something, and I can't figure out an option other than the screensaver files located in windows/system32. I've seen "logon.scr" used as the value in SCRNSAVE.EXE, but it does nothing on my laptops. Nor can I even find that file on computers where it does work (not owned by me, its a friends).

Further, when applied via GP, some users aren't catching the timeout setting properly and its kicking the screensaver after 60 seconds, instead of 900. Any reason some have a delay, and it takes days for the setting to fully apply and get into the registry?

Make Logon Screen With Guest Account And Switch User Button

Jul 29, 2011

I'm currently administrator of a couple different groups of computers at a university, and I've been looking into changing the layout of the logon screen. I've found a lot of information, but something that I have wanted from the start has eluded me. I'd like to set the logon screen (or welcome screen I suppose) to display only one available account: the guest account that I have personalized for professors or students to use (not the same as the default Windows guest account). I would also like to have the option to switch users at the logon screen, preferably with the on-screen button that says switch users which I can't seem to get to display using my methods.

System Specs All of the PCs I am administrating have some differences... Simply put, I have a bunch of desktops running Windows 7 Pro x64, and a bunch of NetBooks running Windows 7 Starter x86. I've made my attempts on one of the NetBooks thus far since I can carry it around. On Windows 7 Starter it seems that "Switch User" is disabled, but I think it is still in the PC because when I tried a Registry Hack that hides all user accounts except the one that was last logged into, I had the option to switch users, but only when the account I last used had a password. The guest account does not and cannot have one. Anyway, the registry hack I just mentioned involves going to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE..... and creating a bogus key under the ProfileList key.

I also tried a similar thing to the above which didn't work, I can't remember what it was though.I have also tried hiding the default administrative account I made while keeping the other account visible, but this results in me not being able to log into that account from the Login screen, and the system will automatically login to the guest account because it doesn't have a password. Not necessarily a bad thing, but I need a way to get into the other account. This was done by changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOF... and adding the account to hide as a 32 bit DWORD. Don't hide all of your administrator accounts in this fashion, or you'll be screwed FYI.

The third thing I tried was adding an entry for fast user switching and enabling/disabling it, in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOF.... and adjusting the "HideFastUserSwitching" key. This didn't seem to have any effect.I also tried various combinations of the above, but that didn't get me the outcome I was looking for either. This has all been on the netbook, but I'm looking for a solution that will work on the NetBooks and the Desktops.

User Accounts Created But Not Able To Logon - No User Profile

Feb 17, 2012

I am a lab technician for Microsoft classes at a community college. One of our students somehow messed up his hard drive. The computer is running Windows 7 Enterprise SP1 64-bit. The system has two administrator accounts and one standard user account. I am still able to logon with those accounts and there are SID keys for each of these users in the registry.

Now when we create a new user, the account is created without any problems. The user shows up on the logon page and after running the net user command, it shows up there as well. When I try to logon with the new user, I get a message: The User Profile Service failed the logon. User profile cannot be loaded.

None of the new user accounts show up in the registry. The other anomaly that I see is that the Default User folder is missing in each of the Users subdirectory for the three accounts where I have no problems.

I have read the Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 947215 and none of the methods apply to my problem. I also checked Local Group Policies and the Do not logon users with temporary profiles setting is not configured.

Difficulty Changing Secure Logon Text Prompt

Dec 8, 2012

All this was done on Windows 7 Ultimate x64. I've been trying to get the "Press CTRL + ALT + DELETE or use the Windows Security button to <log on/unlock this computer.>" text changed. I made a copy of the authui.dll.mui files from both System32/en-US/ and SysWOW64/en-US/ to another location. I opened them up in Resource Hacker , went to String Table/753/1033 and changed the text for items 12035 and 12036 , hit Compile Script , and then save. I then made backups of the originals, took file ownership so that I could delete them, and, finally, replaced them. To verify that this operation was successful, I opened the files, now in their respective en-US folders, back up in Resource Hacker . Each text field displays precisely what I set it to. However, when I lock the computer or log off, the text has not been changed at all. Even after a reboot, the text has not been changed. Afterwards, I went back into the en-US folders to make sure they didn't revert and found my changes in place.

Can't Change User Picture After Upgrade

Dec 21, 2009

I upgraded from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Professional. I used the Easy Transfer program to migrate my files. I reinstalled some of my software before moving my user settings back onto the system.

I went in to change my User Account pictures and there is no option to save changes to either account. It shows the picture selection but no Save Changes button at the bottom of the window.

I'm back to hating Microsoft unless this is my user error. (and using Windows doesn't count as an error)

The upgrade has been working pretty well for Microsoft and I'm really pleased with the improved performance but get irritated by the little challenges.

Any suggestions?
