View 2 RepliesMy internet connection shows 'no internet access' even though my ISP shows the connection is coming into the house just fine. I usually use a router (NetGear-WNR3500U) but I right now I have the Ethernet connection plugged directly into my PC. I tried directly plugging into my laptop and the internet works just fine. So I know the problem resides in the PC.
Some troubleshooting things I have tried.
-Power cycled my modem, router and PC.
-Repinged my connection from my ISP(Comcast Xfinity)
-Used the reset option on the router and the modem
-I was walked through the internet options needed with the tech support from my ISP to make sure DHCP was enabled and every other setting was correct, and he cleared me that all settings were correct.
-Tried ipconfig commands to /renew and /release my IP When I tried ipconfig /renew I get the error 'An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server'
-Restored my PC to a restore point where the Internet was working
All of these options did not work.
What I think the problem is and I am not sure how to fix it, when I run the ipconfig /all command my Auto configuration IPv4 Address shows 169.254.112.76 which I was told is a router IP address even though I am plugged directly from the modem to my PC with an Ethernet cord. So I think that's my problem? But I am not sure.
m using toshiba satellite L640 when i try 2 connect 2 internet it keeps on acquiring network address and shows limited connectivity in windows 7 home premium..

View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having problems using RDC to connect to an HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, 32 bit edition. The HP laptop is connected wirelessly to my home router. The second computer is an iMac (running same OS as HP) cabled to a switch, which is cabled to my home router router. A third computer, a Thinkpad running Windows 7 64 bit Pro (and cabled to the same switch as the iMac), behaves identically to the iMac, so I won't mention it further.I can always RDC from the HP into the iMac, but have problems RDCing from the iMac into the HP. I will get the error "Remote Desktop can't connect to the remote computer for one of these reasons: 1)Remote access to the server is not enabled 2)The remote computer is turned off 3)The remote computer is not available on the network"When this error appears, I am unable to ping the HP from the iMac. I am always able to ping the iMac from the HP.The HP is awake when in am trying to connect to it. In fact, both computers are set to never sleep or hibernate so I won't have to wake up a computer to RDC into it. Both computers are set up to allow incoming RDC connections. I have confirmed that the antivirus and Windows firewall settings on the HP and iMac are identical. I have even tried disabling both Windows firewalls, to no effect. Now here's where it gets strange. If I first RDC from the HP into the iMac and then disconnect, I can then ping the HP and RDC to it from the iMac. If I reboot the HP, the problem comes back.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI had windows vista 32 bit earlier. Then I got windows 7 professional upgrade in trial period. I didn't notice how it happened. Of course it must be my mistake. Now when i boot from windows 7 it shows 64 bit and in vista it shows 32 bit. The system asks before booting which one to choose. It's today only that I have installed but I am not facing any problem as such except that i need a product key within 30 days. Should i leave as it is or uninstall vista somehow. Would i be able to reboot my system using the 32 bit vista CD?

View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit, + SP1 and fully patched. 6 GB of RAM and over 1 TB of free space on the designated scratch drive. No 3rd-party modifications or hacks to the OS or GUI. Sporadically, my Windows Explorer folders lose their Address Bar. Sometimes this happens during a session, sometimes when I've rebooted the PC after previously shutting down and leaving some Windows open (but no apps running), but I've never actually see the Bar go.
What remains of the window will still be functional - I can navigate to other folders and files with the Tree pane on the left, for instance - but there'll simply be no Address Bar. (Which means no search input, refresh button or back and forward buttons.) I can toggle the Menu Bar on and off, but it doesn't bring the Address Bar back. Usually I simply end up closing that window; when I open a new one, it has an Address Bar, no worries.
It's not all Explorer windows that lose the Bar at the same time; typically, it will only be one out of maybe three or four I have open. And I haven't been able to find any pattern to when the Address Bar goes; it doesn't happen every time I use my PC, and I haven't spotted any pattern to what app(s) I might be running when it happens. I've been trying to spot a pattern, but haven't yet.
There may not be one; if I have two Explorer windows open and navigated to the same folder on the same drive, only one of the two might lose its Address Bar, so it doesn't seem to be location-specific. It's a completely legit, licensed retail copy of Windows, and I'm not running any pirate or hacked software. I have Nortons Internet Security 2011 installed and keep it maintained. And I don't seem to have any other problems - no identified misbehaviours, no error messages.
I have been doing a lot of reading on how to change your IP and to me in windows 7 it is not possible. How to change (Dynamic) IP address in Windows 7 or Vista? How to be able to change there IP? I have tried everything. run/ipconfig /release, unpluging modem and router and no change.

I tried changing files and folders settings to show hidden folders. I did everything I know how to do. I am hoping the instructor entered my info correctly to allow me access.
