This issue was solved in this thread:[URL]...However, I am completely clueless as to how. I found the relevant file but double-clicking it merely opened my libraries folder (again).Step by step, what do I do?
I have tried copying the folder over from another computer but it says something about merging and even after merging there is nothing there. I managed to copy the accessories folder from this computer to the start menu before but it opened like a normal folder and didnt expand, and it didn't contain paint, defrag, etc.
I use LibraryIconChanger for my libraries (videos, documents, music, and so on), but I can't change the 'Libraries' folder with it. The libraries folder is the one you right click to add a new library, just to avoid any confusion (though I'm sure you got that). I can't use Folderico on it because for some reason it won't allow it.
As you can see from the screenshot in the link below, I'm wondering why my Libraries in the "Browse For Folders" window appear to be rearranged. As I remembered before, I think Documents should be first rather than Music. I just wanna know what caused this and how do I change it back.
I haven't reached my limit yet, but I'm down to a few unused drive letters, so I've been looking for a way to reorganize. I tried mounting my media drives in NTFS folders, which works OK, but is quite sub-optimal as you can't index them and thus cannot use them in the Libraries. You also can't run chkdsk on them at all.
Does anyone see any other options here? If I mount all of my media drives to letters, I run out of alphabet... if I mount them in folders I can't use index, libraries, or chkdsk. I'm not too excited about switching back and forth for disk maintenance even if I could just give up on Libraries...
I finally got around to recognizing the use of the Libraries feature in Windows 7, and can't believe I didn't realize it earlier. Anyways, my question is, I have 2 folders in a Library with the same name (but point to different locations), basically they contain the same files but one resides in My Dropbox and one resides on my local HD. When I rename a folder in Libraries (to distinguish btwn the 2), it also renames that folder in the actual folder location. I was wondering if I could ONLY rename the folders in the Libraries view, without having it reflect on the actual folder name. Also, I was wondering if any of you have used the Libraries feature as an Application Launcher (ie. creating different Libraries for Programs, Games, etc.), and would like to know how that works/worked out.
I have two seagate barracuda sata drives. My primary o/s drive (c:/) is a 160gb and the secondary is a 1tb . I use the 160gb for my windows installation and for program files. The 1tb is what I had the "My Documents" folder redirected to in Win Xp Pro. I am attempting to do the same thing in windows 7 which makes life easier if for some reason i would have to format and reinstall Windows.
I am new to Windows 7, and have the rest of my computers running XP.I have a number of icon libraries in a folder c:icons which contain contain icon libries within them. eg C:iconsanimals.ico contains further folders cats.ico, dogs.icoI have not been able to get Windows 7 to open these, although XP did. I would like to keep my Windows 7 desktop looking similar to my XP desktops.
When Try to open (double click on mouse) any file/folder/icon deleting error comes. Error Says:- Are you sure you want to Delete the icon/file/folder from your desktop/folder/drive
I read somewhere how you can choose the default program to open a folder with, but now I cannot find it again, and I also cannot find how to do this.
I had done it and changed the default file manager, but I want to reverse the change. I can't get to a window or dialog box that lets me change the file types windows displays, or that lets me edit the default program when I click on a folder icon.
I keep getting this bex error for explorer.exe, but that is only when I open a certain folder. It contains no special file formats, just mp4 videos, like all other season folder of that series. So far all other folders, including those that contain same file formats have opened without encountering problems. [code]
I would like to know how I can set up a default folder in windows 7 when opening up Office workbooks. If I open up Excel 2010, It defaults to to My Documents. However, if I click on a folder "Fixed Assets" to open up a workbook, Excel looks at the latest folder when wanting to open up further files. I want Excel to always default to My Documents
In XP when you open a folder and want to select the file at the top or bottom I usually press the Home or End key. When you do this in Windows7 it does not hi-lite the text, it just ghosts the selection.
I have several DVD's with 60,000 files on them. (these come from a vendor) When I try to open them it takes an hour before I can view the files. I think it is because it tries to index the DVD before it opens. If we open it on an XP computer, it just opens.
I'm working on an almost 2 year old installation of windows 7 ultimate and Ive been running into an issue lately:when going into my "music" folder located in the F: drive explorer crashes, every folder in the whole HDD seems fine. it only crashes on that specific folder.
A windows explorer page is opening whenever my system boots up.I am running Windows 7 Premium Home 64 bit on a Toshiba laptop. This is a recent occurence but I cannot find what is causing this.I have checked the msconfig and nothing seems to be directly causing this.I have also checked the startup folder and the issue does not appear to be there either.
I recently installed Windows 7 and now when I open a folder containing wav files explorer jumps up to 50 to 80 CPU usage. The folder contains wav music files because I am converting them from 320 mp3, and FLAC to use in Ableton Live, which is a music workstation. The folder it originally happened to came from my previous hard drive, which may have got damaged, so the files might be corrupt.. but this issue didn't happen with the folder in question after the hard drives incident (which may have resulted it having bad sectors), when I was using windows xp.Recently I converted a FLAC file to wav using this new windows 7 install. When I tried to access the folder that it was put it, again explorer jumped up to 80 percent, dllhost.exe is also contributing the cpu strain, with around 30 cpu usage.I googled this and I was recommend to download a patch for windows 7 which promised to solve the exact problem I had, it said something about explorer taking up CPU and corrupt wav files, however even after this fix.
I'm moving from an XP machine to a Windows 7 machine and have transferred my project files (engraving files as well as .bmp). When I try to open a project folder in any of the programs I use it takes 2-3 minutes for it to load all the filesThere are just over 10,000 files in the folder, they are all small files (nothing larger than 100k), and on the XP machine it loads in an instant.I have done everything I can find online (turned off indexing, changed the folder prefs, etc) and nothing works. When I open the folder within Windows it loads in an instant, however when I try to open it within a program is when it dragsDoes anybody have any ideas of what else I can try outside of threatening the computer with physical violence? Also as you can tell by my screen name I'm a mac user that has to use PCs at work.
Lately, Iv'e been a bit curious as to why my Start Menu keeps popping up for no reason. If I click on a certain button, to stop IE for instance, start menu comes up, and I can only get rid of it by clicking on the start menu button. OR, I have a program called Deskwin, It changes the desktop to make it looks as if there is no programs, or certain programs running at a time when you press a key or click on a certain window. It is handy to stop a cluttered taskbar. When I press my key (`), It will sometimes open the start menu!Occasionally, I can only open the start menu by pressing the button on the keyboard.AND most days, The computer won't shut down when I click on the shut down button, So I have been hibernating it.Oh, and I use Safari. It has been REALLY slow to boot up lately.I am worried that I have a virus, But everything comes up clear as crystal, except I have an infection Avira calls APPL/KillApp.A in the HP/Bin folder. I have been Ignoring this, but should I be?
These are my PC specs:
It is a HP Pavilion dv6 3132tx notebook, about 9 months old. It has had a HDD malfunction. Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.1 OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium , Service Pack 1, 64 bit Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU Q 720 @ 1.60GHz, Intel64 Family 6 Model 30 Stepping 5 Processor Count: 8
I am using windows 7 ultimate. Whenever I open any folder in my hard drive, my computer gets hang and is closed by itself. It shows windows explorer has stopped working.. so restart it. I have already formatted my D and E drive . But problem still persist.
I have just purchased a new 3XS system from SCAN computers (Vengence). The system has a 120GB SSD and a 1TB HDD. The SSD is used for the OS and programs and the HDD is supposed to be data. The SSD seems to be working fine and Windows 7 agrees. The same can be said for the HDD, however when opening the HDD folder in Explorer and clicking properties, the system reports that there is only 300MB or so on the drive.I have enabled, intialised and assigned a letter to the drive myself, after it was not detected by the OS. I did so in device manager/disk drives by right clicking the drive. When in Properties/Volumes and populating the data, the HDD is recognised as 1TB. It just seems to be the (E folder in Explorer that the device is shown as 300MB. I have tried to drag and drop a 15GB program folder into the Device folder, but it informs me that there is not enough space on the disk to do so.
I have a copy of my maths assignment (my most recent version...which is not backed up) that I have been unable to open. The error is: The file cannot be opened because there are problems with the contents. Details: The name in the end tag of the element must match the element type in the start tag. Location: Part:/word/document.xml, Line: 2, Column: 12620. How to correct this error? I am working with Word 2010.
Running Windows 7 64bit - Lenovo Y580 (though I believe the problem lies in Windows itself).Lately, every time I boot the "My Computer" folder opens on the loading screen. Why is this the case and how can I eliminate this?I've already done the below (but still see the 'My Computer' upon boot):
1) Regedit Userinit.exe - I have looked this up in the registry. It's attributed correctly.
2) Regedit Userinit.exe - Current user/run and runonce checked - no funny programs/bad .exe locations
3) Ccleaner - I checked startup files (same with msconfig>services>startup). No luck.
4) MSE - I don't think malware is causing this as MSE comes up full scan clean
The 9th option: I ran troubleshooting performance and I suddenly see a startup file called "(default)" but with no file location or .exe location, so I don't know where on the computer or registry it is. Is this the culprit?
I'm running Windows7 with IE9. If I go to "Start - Favorites" and select any of my favorites (including my homepage), IE opens the browser as a "small" window (not fit to screen). If I navigate to my "User - Favorites" folder and click from there, it's the same thing. However, if I click on my IE icon in my taskbar, my homepage opens "full" every time. I would like my favorites to also open to fit the screen.
I have tried, (the obvious) maximizing it then closing it normally, dragging the edges of the small window to fit the screen and then closing with "x" and also with "ctrl-file-exit" and "shift-file-exit" - the only suggestions I've been able to find so far, but nothing is working. In my start menu - programs, I have right clicked on both the 32 and 64 bit IE Explorer icons and selected for them to open maximized, but it hasn't helped.
I recently had a run in with the "SmartHDD" virus, but this problem existed long before that issue. I have done a reset on the browser, after the smarthdd issue, I reinstalled the browser, but I'd assume there may be something other than the browser causing this problem(?)Scans with AVG, Spybot, Malwarebytes, Superantispyware are not showing any problems with the pc.
