Lenovo T500 + VGA Output = 1920 X 1080

I have a 42 inch Sharp LCD TV, and a Lenovo T500 laptop running windows 7 as my main OS. I use VGA to connect to my TV. Any attempt to display 1920 by 1080 on my TV results in my TV telling me to switch to 1600 by 1200 because the video mode is not supported. 1920 by 1080 works fine on windows XP, same machine, same TV.

Games would not run well at 1920 by 1080, so I've ignored it up till now (because I tried several times and cannot get it to work). I like 1920 by 1080 for writing code though. Any way to fix this?

video card:

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

Switchable graphics is currently disabled.

Windows 7 version: release candidate (it's free) (32 bit, yay for unused RAM)

Lenovo T500 Freezes At Startup When Updating To Newest
I have a big problem with my lenovo T500. I installed Windows 7 RC x64 to my lenovo T500 (2082-53G) and when I install the ATI catalyst beta driver x64 v9.6 from ATI's homepage, my computer freezes at startup (some activity on HD but I can't move my mouse and many processes faile to start at boot).

Problem occurs only when Windows 7 beta driver for system interface or ricoh multicard reader is installed because it worked ok until I installed those drivers. I'm not the only one facing this problem: Lenovo T500 Thinkpad - WDM Radeon 3650 Driver Update Causes Screen to Freeze.

Is there a way i can force my 1080p capable TV to use a higher resolution than 1366x768?

It can apparently go higher than that but only if it is widescreen (1600x1200 failed)

How can i force 1920x1080? because it doesnt show up on the screen resolution page under control panel.

Switching From HDMI Audio Output Back To Built Audio Output
Win7 RC (64 bit version) Recently I had to plug in just a monitor and speakers to my system (and unplug the HDMI TV input).  Per the control panel, it correctly states that there is no HDMI device and standard line out is the active device.  (Little bar graph goes up and down as audio supposedly is being outputed).  (If I boot XP the audio works just fine.)

My question is can anyone provide a pointer to where to look to see where the audio stream is going (I think it is still heading towards the HDMI port).

Hardware - I7, MSI X58 MB, ATI 4350 graphics card, NO audio card (just built audio).

Thinkpad T500 2081 Hardware Issues
Well as promising as Windows 7 looks, my beta had to end within 48 hours of install due to several key drivers missing.

1. for some reason the hard drive on Windows 7 ran abysmally slow. It did not appear to me that the right drivers were installed so my performance index score for the drive was only a 1.9 My T500 has a Hitachi 7200 160GB drive installed and its performance was much better under Vista x64 than Win7 x64.

2. My DVD-RAM drive in the T500 had no driver support at all that I could find.  The installed cdrom.sys drivers didn't even work.

3. No AMD/ATI drivers or support for the switchable graphics on the T500.   Actually, Win 7 x64 seem to be able to use the ATI drivers when I upgraded from Vista x64, however, I lost the switchable driver capability and could not get ATI CCC to work at all.

4. The Ericsson WAN driver was a ____ shoot. I got it working with an older driver but it was intermitent - not reliable enough to use while traveling for sure. The result was that Access Connections would sometimes show both a LAN and WAN tab and most others would only show LAN with no way to enable the WAN card.

Once I got it running, Win 7 x64 did seem more stable than Vista x64, however, with so many key features missing from my Thinkpad, I had to restore my drive with Acronis True Image back to Vista x64. I'll wait and see if Lenovo jumps on the Win 7 x64 beta driver bandwagaon soon, but I'm not holding my breath. Too bad, Win 7 x64 certainly seems like everything Vista x64 was meant to be, sans the bugs.

No Output To Toshiba TV
Since switching to Win7 RC, I cannot get any output to display on my Toshiba TV. The BIOS will still output to it, and the windows startup splash screen outputs to it, but as soon as it gets to the point of showing the log-in screen, it stops outputting (TV shows "No Video Signal" and the display reverts back to my old monitor that I still have plugged in).

Video card: GeForce 9800 GTX+

I've tried every driver available for Vista, Win7 Beta, and Win7RC, and none work. I installed Win7 Beta back onto another hard drive, installed the latest driver, and had output on the TV without any issues, so it's only in the RC.

Sound Output With A Delay
There is a very big latency when I'm trying to hear the keyboards plugged into line input. The signal generated on line/mic/ any input source it comes out on output with a delay which is making impossible to do multitrack recordings.

This could be because of the asio type driver behaviour?  Because of that, I cannot sinchronize with a pre-recorded track... In Xp is working fine on the onboard audio device, and I have an extra pciex audio card with the same delay no matter what drivers or operating system I'm using. If it is a possibility to make them working in direct mode (like a direct transfering the signal from input to output) let me know.

No Output From Video Card
I just converted my desktop from WinXP pro to Win7 pro (32 bit) with the plan of making it a media PC, since my wife and I do most of our work on our laptops anymore. It's built on an Asus M2A-VM motherboard (which has an AMD 690 chipset). I also put in a Radeon 3450 card, which has DVI, VGA, and HDMI out. I'm planning to use the HDMI to drive our TV, but I have everything connected to a monitor while I make sure the computer is set up correctly. Here's the problem: I can drive the monitor using the DVI output on the motherboard, but I can't get a video signal out of the DVI port on the video card.

Win 7 sees the card, and says it has it set up correctly (as a Radeon 3400-type card). It is having issues setting up the video adapter in the chipset (calls it a Radeon 1200 device), but I disabled that video adapter, which should eliminate any contention? The VGA adapter on the board is the only way I can get video output right now (again, through the DVI port on the motherboard). My usual practice when I'd have a problem like this with XP, was to strip out all of the video drivers, and then thrash through all the driver versions until something worked. Does anyone have any suggestions before I go that route?

PC - Dual Sound Output
I have an HDMI lead coming out the Graphics card Radeon 4870 HDMI Vapor-X and straight into the HD TV, this works fine and the sound comes out of the TV when I play a video file.

I'd like to be able to play games on the computer with the "game" audio coming out of the PC speakers/headphones via the motherboard at the same time as playing video files through the TV.

Is this possible and if so how do I seperate the two audio devices in Windows 7?

Unable To Initialize 3D Output - Error
So my sister had 10 free downloads for Windows 7 from her school so I figured I'd try it out. I installed it and tried downloading one of the games I play. When trying to open the game, I got this message:

"Unable to initialize 3D output. Please verify that you have installed DirectX 8 and an updated video driver."

I have downloaded the newest DirectX, which is version 11. It's what I had with vista so I know that is not the problem. I've gone into my device manager and tried updating the video driver but it says it's the best one available.

Although it's just the standard one that comes with my computer. Since Windows 7 is still very new I'm having a hard time finding driver downloads. I've searched the dell site and this one. Does anyone know why this would be happening? I love the speed of Windows 7 but I have the urge to go back to vista.

Problems With Audio Output Switching
I must say, as someone who's had major distaste for Vista, and generally grumbling about this or that 'fluffy' wasteful features since Windows ME & XP.. I really like the polish that's already in Windows 7 Beta.  It's been an absolute treat in most cases.  However, as with every OS, it's got it's own.. personality quirks.  The current one that's making me absolutely twitch, is sound.

You can set a 'default' sound output, and microphone.. But that's a misnomer.  It should be 'Currently selected'.  "Default" is instead 'whatever was last activated / plugged in'.  So when I'm trundling along, adding microsoft peripherals.. I end up loosing my Dolby 5.1 sound.

In this case, going from the onboard sound that was set emphatically (and amongst swearing after the fifteenth time I've set it in the past month) as default.. over to either the 360 wireless headset (which is admittedly logical, to a point).. or to the 360 controller.  Both the wireless and the wired do it, despite no headset being hooked up to them, but the profound and sudden silence of music that was playing usually heralds things connecting properly.

So.  My curiousity is somewhat simple.  How do I force it to -NOT- change the sound settings automatically and misguidedly 'helpfully', so I don't have to manually fix it every single bloody time?

Problems With DVI/D-SUB Video Output
First I watched movies and used pc fine, but I guess it was next time I tried to watch some movies, things got pretty weird. I connected pc to projector via DVI to HDMI cable. My htpc windows user doesn't have aero, so desktop picture was excellent. As soon as I opened video file using any player (MP, MPC HC, ZoomPlayer), the whole screen will randomly start bugging out. Lots of whole screen wide green or red lines apper and ghost pictures etc really freak stuff starts to happen.

As soon as I closed video player, things got back to normal and picture is just great. I tried VGA picture via D-SUB, but it gives same result (and I can't get good/clear picture at all via D-SUB...). Then I switch to other user which has Aero in use. Well, picture gets buggy all the time (event I didn't start to play any video file) until I turned off the Aero.

Cabels and projector are ok 'cos I tested them with another source and no problem. I quess if things got bad after I installed Visual Studio 2008 SP1 and .NET Framework 3.5 SP1, but I don't have any proofs. I'm just guessing that that was something I had differently in windows since the last time I watched movies. I also installed X700 drivers again but it didn't help.

When I play video files via DVI or D-SUB connected to my Samsung SyncMaster 225BW LCD monitor, there is no problem. Anyone else heard or had anything like this? Any ideas what to do to get video out to work again?

OS: Windows 7 Professional RTM 64bit
PC: Acer Ferrari 4600, 2gb ram, ATI Mobility X700
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE700
Used resolution: 1280x720, and several others, but it didn't matter

Streaming Soundcard Output To A Computer Over Network
How can I setup a simple client-to-server audio-streaming solution that will take mear minutes to setup? I want people to be able to play their music using whatever program or web-site they want over the local network to the stationary computer connected up to my sound-system.

I found something about Virtual Audio Cable & Axia IP-Audio Driver but VAC is a bit to complex for me to set up and Axia's IP-Audio Driver is impossible to find. Anyone got a solution to this?

Bit-perfect Output Via S/PDIF And USB
For the SigmaTel High Definition Audio or IDT High Definition Audio CODECs, is there any way to get bit-perfect output via the TOSLINK or RCA S/PDIF connectors?

The idea here is to have line-level output, no volume control in software, to an external device that will do the D/A conversion.

And, same question via USB...

GPResult Output For Computer Policy No Data
I have built my first Win7 Ent system and joined it to my 2008 domain. When I ran gpresult /h filename.html I found that my user policies were listed, however for computer policies there was "no data available" If I put a vista box in that same OU with the same command, I see the computer policy’s listed.

Is there something we need to do to enable GPO to process properly for win7? I ran a GPUPDATE/ ForceI don’t see any errors in the event logs, I even found a system log that stated "the group policy settings for the computer were processed successfully" followed by one for the user. Same output with the gpresult.

Understanding Output From Standard User Analyzer
I have several legacy applications that I'm verifying under Windows 7 with UAC enabled (at the default setting). All applications run 'perfectly well as a standard user' according to the Standard User Analyzer Wizard. (ACT 5.5, by the way.)

Almost all the applications start without causing a UAC prompt at all. However, one app causes UAC to ask if the user wants to 'allow the program to make changes to this computer' - when acknowledged, the app runs fine. I'm assuming this means that Windows 7 regards the application as 'requiring elevation'. (Note: launching the same app via ShellExecute in another app results in a 'program attempted to launch a process that requires elevation' report in Standard User Analyzer, which I'm assuming backs up my theory.)

So - I'm trying to work out why Windows 7 regards this one application as requiring elevation, but none of the others. I'm using the Standard User Analyzer (SUA) to get detailed information about the Warnings and Errors it reports. However, I'm having difficulty finding exactly what an Error or Warning *means* when it's reported by SUA. Can anyone shed any light?

Does an Error in SUA indicate a condition that Windows 7 will regard as meaning, "this app requires elevation", for example?

Edit: When launched as a Standard User, the app does not cause a UAC prompt. When launched as a user in the Local Admins groups, the app causes a UAC prompt. So I need to work out what causes Windows to mark the app as requiring 'approval to run' when launched as an administrator...

SPDIF Output On SoundMax AD1986A Not Working
I have an ASUS M2NPV-VM motherboard with the SoundMax AD1986A onboard audio and the optional SPDIF (coax and optical) 5.1 channel surround-sound output card. I use the optical audio output for surround sound on my Media Center system. On previous verions of windows, the SoundMax drivers allowed me to select the SPDIF as my primary output. When I installed Windows 7 RC in July, this option was no longr available. I chocked it up to it being the cost of upgrading.

However, a few months later, all of a sudden, the option came back, and I had full use of my optical audio output again. I assumed it was due to an automatic update or something. I didn't pay any attention to why, since I figured the issue had obviously been resolved and would be included in the final verion of Windows 7 64bit. Yesterday, I installed the final release of Windows 7 Ultimate and ran all the updates.

Now the option is gone again. ASUS has no drivers available for this motherboard that support Windows 7, and the Vista driver gives an error message when you try to install it that says it does not support this OS.  Currently the Microsoft-provided High-Definition Audio Device Driver v.6.1.7600.16385 is installed and the sound does work through the stereo jack, but that's it.  Unfortunately, that does me no good, as I need the optical output for surround sound.

Standard VGA Adapter
I just installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit OS onto my laptop. Without thinking i needed any drivers, i went to play World of Warcraft. It told me that it could not locate a display device and wouldn't work. I figured i needed to install my grpahics card drivers for my Nvidia 9 series card. When i went to install the drivers, an error message appeared saying that it could not locate drivers compatible with my device.

I went to dxdiag and under display it shows that i have a standard vga adapter and won't recognize my actual graphics card. I'm not sure if i'm missing drivers, i haven't installed anything else except for this attempt at installing the nvidia driver.

HP Quickplay And VGA Error
Blu-Ray is always a fun problem in 7 because of what I have determided to be a VGA error, I used to get this when my Nviaida drivers were set to dual screens but when I setup the screen off and screen on profiles in Vista it was fixed. With 7 I now get that error all the time but try as I must I can't get it to go away now, I am even running Quick Play (Latest version) in Vista mode which helped the speed of loading but not the VGA error.

I would really like to play one of my movies soon because every time I try to configure the dual screen setup in 7's rez screen it seems to revert to having both avalable to the Quick Play program so it doesn't let me watch the movie; It thinks I am going to doop the movie to another source. So I am really a victom of anti-piracy.

2nd Monitor Output Causing Flukes / Failures
This may be an isolated incident (which I am hoping it is). However my device display (the safely remove .... device) icon failed and gave a nice little error. This is the first failure on windows 7 of that specific program/utility.

Also some further information on this:

Dell E1505 laptop intel core duo with 2gig of ram and 50gig hdd.

At the time of failure my laptop was hooked up to an external monitor as well (projector system/switcher). While projector output shouldn't effect this I have a feeling it is causing the crash as I also had firefox decide to jump screens onto the projector on me as well.

Optical Output On Ht Omega 7.1 Striker Card Not Working
ht omega striker 7.1 sound card

running optical out and into my amplifier, have tested the amplifier input, and the optical cable. tried the drivers from manufacturers website, a couple sets of vista drivers, no drivers, and tried switching the default optical out back and forth with different drivers in the windows 7 "manage audio devices" screen.

on that screen it shows a sound bar going up and down, as if the pc thinks it is sending sound out of that output,. but nothing. double checked the optical line is coming out of the output on the back of the card, checked volume...out of ideas!

anyone else have this issue? not sure if the drivers are not working properly or just need to try some different vista drivers and squeeze sound out until the windows 7 drivers are working properly.

(should mention this exact setup worked fine 2 days ago, until i installed windows 7)

Have Realtek High Definition Sound But No Hdmi Output
I've upgraded from vista to 7 and I am getting no sound, I've searched, searched and tried alot of different things, I see alot of people on this forum with the same issues, but I've tried most of them. I've installed and unistalled all the different drivers from realtek, but no luck. I have realtek high definition sound but no hdmi output. In my device manager it says the sound driver is installed properly, but when I tried to test the sound it fails to test tone, I don't know if it has to deal with an audio codec. I have regular speaker that connect to a sound jack. At this point I am quite desperate. I've spent all night trying to figure this out.
