Power-point Very Slow Screen Updates?
Oct 27, 2009I've installed my copy of Office XP (which works perfectly well for my purposes and I don't need any new features of later versions!), and Powerpoint 2002 runs very slowly re-drawing the screen. After selecting a "Slide design" from the view menu, it takes a two or three seconds to redraw the background if I switch between slides, type some text in a text box over the background, resize the window etc. (No delays when switching slides during a slide show though.)It works very fast on my old laptop running XP. My Windows 7 desktop computer is a Core Duo E7400 with a GTX260 graphics card (latest drivers installed) so should be about 10x faster than the laptop!

Jan 2, 2012My computer was turned off during the update process and I am getting the blue screen. After launching the start-up repair I am told the problem cannot be solved although there is a patch preventing the system from starting. My registry files precede the date the problem occurred, I have tried to restore but there is no restore point, I cannot start in safe mode. I have launched bootrec.exe and ran FixMbrFixBoot and also RebuildBcd and none have worked. I know I will probably have to go the long way around and pull the data from my disc and do a clean install but just wondered if any of you Techsperts had a quicker fix so I can spend the rest of my life in awe at your magnificence?

Jun 3, 2012I've has thisl issue with a Compaq Presario cq56-115dx black screen at power on,everything else seems to power up, caps light blinks showing what it could be that's not working as noted above on hp's support link however this model of laptop/notebook will not make a beeping sound, never did when the monitor would power up correctly. I installed ssd new mobo still black screen replaced ram,checked connection ac/dc you name it still black screen no Compaq logo nada. I contacted hp no reply. HP no warranty and no assistance policy. I'm think its lg LCD/monitor not sure if customer overheated unit, no spills where found inside reply

Dec 22, 2009I am seriously at my limit spent 3 days I still cant figure it out, done probably 100 reboots. Contacted ASUS Support they are useless still in contact with them in troubleshooting this matter.
This is my issue.
When I hit the Power Button my screen goes black, before a bios revision it would just reboot my computer. YES I have set Power Options, Power Button to shut down computer.
I noticed I am missing a Sleep Button Action as its not in my menus. Maybe this could be a leading reason why this is happening? Anyone know how to get this option to show up?
I have used another computer cases front panel and same issue occurs so it cannot be my front panel.
I have a gut feeling the OS ACPI is completely being ignored when it comes to what the Power Button should do, if I set it to Sleep/Hibernate/Shut Down SAME thing still occurs.
I have got the Power Button to work successfully maybe 8 times out of the 100. It actually Logged off, Saved Settings and Turned of Computer as what I am trying to get it to do.
I have reinstalled the ACPI driver from ASUS but nothing changed. Have the latest BIOS Revision as well. I have removed battery and cleared CMOS as well. Also loaded default BIOS settings.

Logitech Illuminated Keyboard (Maybe can use ACPI I think dont know if it can conflict?)
Weird thing, guy at ASUS told me to set it to "S1 Only" in BIOS and it actually worked twice, third time I hit the power button it went back to same behavior.
I noticed my chances are higher for it to turn off properly when the power options advanced settings window is open for some reason.
I hope someone knows how to fix this.

The problem I've had ever since going to windows7 is 1 monitor works, the other just black screen with power on. I've gone into nvidia control panel and also through windows and it shows both monitors present but I noticed one monitor is attached through an analog cable but both are hooked up with the dvi cables. Could my card have a bad port?
when I plug in monitor 2 in the r/s dvi port it shows the right side desktop portion of the extended view and when I switch to monitor 1 on the right side dvi port it shows the left side desktop view but nothing comes up when attached to the left side dvi port. I've taken a snap shot of my desktop and it shows both screens. I've tried older drivers as far back to 170's and nothing worked.

I have been able to install other windows updates with no problems at all, but I can't download them. I believe that there is still a rootkit on this computer so I think that it may be the source of the problem. I have tried to remove the rootkit in the past, but I am not going to buy a whole new version of windows because of the rootkit.

Everything is fine, but the updates take forever, and need you to be around to continually restart the computer numerous times. Everytime i turn on the laptop, i see windows starting up, then i am prompted to enter my administrator password. after entering my password, the screen goes black and all i see is the white cursor. I tried removing the battery, then unpluging the wall power and holding the power button for 2 minutes and replacing the plug, turning on the computer and replacing the battery, but this is not working.

Jan 19, 2013My laptop (Asus A52F) starting acting up about a week ago. It seems to be seizing and then black-screening if I have it do anything more than one small task. For example it often freezes up during scans, when I plug in a hard drive or if I try to download absolutely anything and then I have to force shut down by holding the power button.I've tried running a few different virus/malware scans (Super Anti Spyware, Ad-aware and Malware Bytes) and they found a couple little things but the compuet has still been acting up.
I've tried keeping an eye on the task manager while trying anything that usually freezes the computer and I'm seeing any jumps in the CPU. I've attempted to do a system restore as well but there is no restore point to use.

After Closing Laptop Lid, Can't Get Out Of Black Screen
Nov 21, 2012I left my laptop on and had to leave so I simply shut the lid down. About 2 hours later, I lifted the lid and got only a black screen. I moved the mouse around to get it to come on but it would not. After about 5 tries on holding down the button in which to start up my laptop or turn off in this case, it finally turned off then I was able to turn it on and all was fine. I held it down for about 15 seconds. So, question is why wouldn't my laptop become active again when I opened the lid, etc?
