View 2 Replies View RelatedShortly after installing the latest intellipoint drivers suggested by Windows 7 along with several other updates from windows update, my Microsoft Keyboard stopped working after windows boots up. The mouse works fine but the keyboard does not.The keyboard doesn't respond AFTER windows starts but works fine in BIOS. I can boot to safe mode using F8 but then the keyboard stops working once Windows prompts me to logon.I can even use the sleep mode button on an alternate keyboard (Logitech) I tried later just to debug the problem to put the computer to sleep but the keys to log on aren't responsive. The computer succesfully restarted a few times after installting the updates so it may not directly be related to the windows updates. Either way, it didn't happen on next bootup.
-I tried all my system restore points and that did not work,
-I tried the "on-screen" keyboard just to get past the logon, but it does not pop up. I can get it to pop up in another installation of windows 7 on the same computer.
- I tried the keyboard on a separate (new) installation of Windows 7 on the same computer and it does work fine, but that doesn't solve the problem. Also the "on-screen" keyboard works fine in the new installation.
-I've tried going into BIOS and setting num-lock boot to on (I don't know why but someone suggested this might work for a similar problem) but it didn't work for me.
- I've also tried a few BIOS options that look like they might make a difference like legacy USB 3.0 support but that did not work.
- different USB ports 2.0 or 3.0 for the receiver combo do not make a difference.
Also a clean re-install is not an option for me because the licenses used for Windows and MS Office won't allow another install.I can get to a dos prompt or access the non-working windows 7 drive and files with dual-boot, but I need to get back to access that installation. Is there a way to manually reinstall the drivers via DOS, the other partition, or some other solution that might work?

View 2 Replies View Relatedi am on windows 7 and for a week, my keyboard doesn't work. the key p, return, tab, and some others won't work. ma visual keyboard works fine - except the question mark - . i tried the pilots, and the computer says it has the best pilots so no need to update. i don't know where it comes from, but then, after a windows update, my keyboard came back to normal. it worked fine for three days and then, again, it screw up. it's always the same keys that don't work, so i don't think my keyboard is worn out. my computer is only one year old. it's a sony vaio laptop. each time i press the p key, for example, the start button -physical one- blinks. same for the other buttons. when i press the return key, the start button blinks. and while i am having this problem, my computer has trouble loading. sometimes it freezes and i have to unplug it and remove the battery to reboot.

Now my keyboard and mouse both do not work on Windows login screen. Same for safe mode. Before this, in BIOS, other screens can get to by holding down keys as computer starts, keyboard works.
As Windows loads, can see keyboard illumination switches off. Same for mouse laser. My other USB peripherals (extra HD and wireless thingy) still have lights on. Fairly new computer. Cost me 300 new about 6 months ago.
I tried to 'roll back' Windows - there was only one option - for when I installed Itunes maybe a week ago, but that failed. I chacked inside and outside the case to see if there's any sockets for PS/2 keyboards, but there aren't any.
I'm trying to install Windows 7 Professional 64 bit Edition on new SSD.I'm using a USB keyboard and USB mouseI turn on the computer and the keyboard works. I can enter the bios and use the mouse as well in the bios GUI.I set the computer to boot off the cd-drive. Open the cd-drive. Place Windows 7 inside and restart the system. Now the system boots off the cd and Windows 7 installer disk does its thing.Eventually I reach the page where it reads "Install NowI go to move the mouse. The mouse doesn't work. I try the keyboard. The keyboard doesn't work.To resolve the issue I had to power down the system, unplug the usb keyboard and use an old PS2 keyboard just to get the keyboard to work and install Windows 7.My question is what was the problem and if it occurs next time how do I resolve this issue

I even had a live chat w/ support and they said since my computer was no longer under warranty I had to pay for extended cust. serv. He said it was an issue w/ the upgrade but refused to give me any more details. I've been in the device manger and checked for driver updates but it says the drivers are up to date. I'm currently using an USB connected keyboard and mouse(The only thing that goes on my nerves is that my keyboard and mouse use battery!)It's ok for mouse, he can hold up to month, but keyboard can't! And my old cable keyboard simply doesn't work. I've tried to plug and unplug it few times. First when OS is down and then. I started my comp and i saw no green lights on old one. I thought it was wrong ps/2 but not. Is it possible that she's broken...or that my new motherboard's ps/2 is broken.

View 4 Replies View Relatedrecently my computer was acting up and would not startup past the "windows is starting up" screen. I really wanted to play a bunch of games I just bought so I kept occasionally getting it to work in "last known good configuration". Safe mode didn't work and eventually I ran a disc I have no idea what it's called but it said soldierx on the screen and ran like 8 virus scans and did a bunch of tests on my comp, apparently geeksquad uses it. Anyways it removed 3120 spyware, but right before I decided to run this the only reason I decided to was because my keyboard and mouse stopped working. It works in the bios and anything before I actually get to my desktop, lights up and everything, even the keyboard shortcuts work such as windows search, but I can't move my mouse or do anything with my keyboard. I ran startup repair and it says that windows can't automatically fix the problem, had my dad do some pin reset thing where you do something with the battery and move pin 1 to 2 and 2 to three or something like that and didn't work, the bios has ps/2 enabled and legacy something enabled which I read could be the problem, and I have no restore points.
