I brough a Samsung notebook recently and found that it will go to sleep mode automatically when I close the display. I tried to change the action of closing display in the power settings, however, I found that the options are dimmed and I cannot change it. Could anyone teach me how can I change it? My notebook is Samsung RF710, windows7 home premium 64 bits
View 3 RepliesPretty self-explanatory by the title. I haven't had this problem until two days ago, and I Sleep my computer on a regular basis. This now happens about one out of three times I wake my computer.The computer turns on, but the display doesn't. It's not the monitor--if I power it off and on, nothing changes, but it will turn on as usual after I forcibly restart my computer. Every time this happens, my only option is to hold down the PC's power button until it shuts off and then power it back on. I've also checked all the cables.My guess is that it's the graphics card, though it's strange that it started recently--I haven't installed any video driver updates.The only change I can think of is Windows 7 auto updates that installed recently (none were for the display, all were for "x64-based systems").My graphics card is an EVGA 9600 GSO with 768MB DDR2.Windows 7 x64Hanns-G HH251 connected via DVI (video card end) to HDMI (monitor end) cable.
View 6 Replies View Relatedso the Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit install is fresh, and all the drivers are the latest available. I have updated my mobo's bios to the latest version through Asus' "AI Suite II" which makes things very simple. I want my PC to be able to go into sleep mode but I don't want to have to force shutdown every time it goes into sleep mode after a time span. For some reason if I wake my PC after its been in sleep mode for a short period everything turns back on just fine... I know there might be a solution through the configuration panel

View 16 Replies View RelatedI recently put together a new build and it's been working great, the only glaring problem I have is that when the computer goes into sleep mode, it won't turn back on. Specifically, in sleep mode it goes quiet, when I click mouse/press a key then the fans start up, sounds as if it's working, but the display remains completely black, and mouse laser doesn't turn on.
My system is:
- Intel i5-2500K overclocked to 4.2GHz (via motherboard overclocking utility)
- ASrock Z68 Extreme4 Motherboard
- Corsair Force 3 60gb ssd
- Asus GTX 570
- Corsair TX M600 power supply
- Corsair Carbide series 400r case (if it makes a difference?)
Just recently was doing some additional overclocking on my PC and had this happening just now. Whenever I resume my session out of sleep mode by hitting either a key on my keyboard or mouse, my PC fires up, but the display doesn't come back, almost as if I had pulled out the cable from the monitor. The PC is running normally as this is going on, and the only way for me to get my display back is to do a hard reset.

wreaks havoc with my Norton full system scan. It is scheduled weekly, but never does it, because my computer is on, but sleeping. How can I get the scan to not stop during sleep mode or scan if it's in sleep mode? I having to constantly unsleep my computer or change my control panel settings then change it back.
View 8 Replies View RelatedMy laptop is an MSI Gx660, running windows 7 64bit with 12gb ram.The laptop is only 1-2months old and My harddisk has very little files with about 205gb free on the C drive.
After using for a long period of time like 6-7hours, I would usually put my laptop into hibernate mode.When I click hibernate, the screen turns black but even after 20mins the power button including wifi and other lights doesnt go off, which I have to force shutdown by holding the power button. Even sleeping the laptop after 6-7hours does the same issue, unable to go to sleep(indicated by the blinking power button)
The wierd thing is that if I use the laptop for about 2 hours or less, I am able to fully hibernate or sleep, which I tested a few times.

My adapter is always gone from resuming from sleep. I know it was working before. Just changed my ram and bios settings from a fresh build. Went from Corsair xms3 to G.Skill Ripjaws.
I am having this same issue with my newly built pc. The drive running Windows 7 is from a laptop where the mobo died. I am using it in AHCI mode because my case has a front hot swap caddy.
I have a Gigabyte Z68X-UD3H-B3 mobo and after installing and uninstalling drivers, software, changing settings, removing ram, changing power options to maximum power for pci card and wifi, turning off hibernate, restarted, rebooted, updated all drivers from Gigabyte, chipset drivers, etc. I have unchecked "allow Windows to turn off this device". Restarted and tested and I get the same issue. I have unchecked this box in all of my networking devices too including, 802.11n Wireless Lan Card #2 and Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter. Also, uninstalled and reinstalled these and updated drivers from my disc that came from Gigabyte as well as driver update from the Gigabyte website.
Nothing I do will turn on my wifi card after sleep. Windows will not see a network adapter. Everything works fine after restarting though. I have S3 enabled in bios as that is what I want. I have case fans that I don't want to hear with no option to turn them off. Otherwise, i'd be fine with S1.
Is this just not a working feature? I've read that sleep is an ongoing issue with Windows, but my pc sleeps fine. I just want to be able to put my pc to S3 sleep and resume with a working wifi card. There must be a key setting i'm missing because i'm sure it was working with my last set of ram.
I have recently notice that my laptop has the following issues:- Doesn't follow power option settings (shutting off the monitor, go to sleep on timeout, etc)- Doesn't turn on the screen saver. Previewing the screensaver turns it off in about a second (even if my hands are off the mouse/keyboard).- Windows 7 Projector Connection screen (WinKey+P) goes away after a second or so after bringing it up- Some windows open in background (for example, Picasa image viewer opens windowed in the background instead of fullscreen in front as it used to) From what I understand based on some light Googling and vague leads, there is some sort of interrupt happening that makes the OS think it is being actively used. Unfortunately I am not sure how to pinpoint and solve the issue from here on, so therefore I turn to this forum for help. Some notes about stuff I tried and know about this issue:- This must have happened in the past week or two. I do not recall installing any new software and the only updates that passed my memory were Windows Updates.- Checking Task Manager doesn't reveal any suspicious processes to me.- Some sources suggested this could be a faulty Logitech driver. I own a Logitech mouse and keyboard combo.
Something to consider, I guess? Specs:- Windows 7 32b SP 1, up to date- AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-58- 2GB RAM- 250GB HDD- ATI Radeon Xpress 1150- Connected devices: LAN, Logitech Alto Connect Notebook Stand, Logitech S520 Keyboard + mouse that goes with that kit, USB external drive, VGA monitor, line-in running into the microphone port to play sound out of the laptop speakers
This is on my old PC and im trying to fix it but im not sure if the mobo is no good or the psu or what. The PC can power on as well as the fans but maybe 5-10 seconds later the fans turn off and there is no display on the screen but the PSU fan is still going.

I remember in earlier versions of windows I could put my computer to sleep and still have some functionality.. such as audio. How do I shut the display and still hear my audio? If I put the computer to sleep, the audio also shuts down.

I bought a new notebook running windows 7 64 bit a couple of months ago After running a full system scan with Kaspersky anti-virus a couple of days ago I now have a bug with sleep mode - After going into sleep mode, the user with my picture icon is locked meaning that I can't enter my password to log back in - the password box doesn't show.With the ASUS face recognition scanner I'm logged back in, but everything is 'buggy' e.g. if I click on the start button and hover over that entire area it goes into sleep again, or if i click on the bookmarks on chrome it doesn't show them, instead it click on an actual site within the bookmarks.After going into sleep the only way to enter and return to a normal state is to click the 'switch user' whereupon, my user picture icon reverts with the password boxI have tried a system restore but this didn't work.

Since a few days my PC developed an unusual behaviour: it goes to sleep mode at random intervals ! sometimes it does that at windows start up for several times...
I had microsoft security essential installed and read on some forums that it could be the reason for this problem: I unistalled that. Then I run online scanned from ESET nd Bitdefender: all clean.
Then I installed avas free edition (as I was without any anti-virus software). Did a complete system scan with no problem. I messed up with the power consumpion settings with no results.
The only solution I could find was to use the software "Dontsleep.exe" which I found googling around: it works ! I looked up all the running services and application at windows sturtup and disabled a lot of them with no results.
So this might be the wrong place for this thread but I didnt see a computer specific section so i picked this just incase it is related to my windows. Anyway the problem i am having is that every so often, more often then not actually, when my computer hibernates from inactivity, it cannot be woken up. I click the mouse, press everything on the keyboard and nothing will happen. I even try pressing the power button yet that does nothing. The power button just keeps blinking as normal when in sleep mode. I also tried Holding down the power button, in hope to force shutdown the computer but that did not work either. The only way anything happens is if i unplug the computer and then plug it back in. Unfortunately i know thats really bad for the computer but i dont really have a choice.[CODE]In addition, i have restored my computer to factory defaults, aswell as installed all the latest drivers
