1. I have restarted my computer multiple times and restarted the modem and router.
2. I've checked my services to make sure that that weird code is not there and it was not.
This problem just came up recently and had no issues with it before and this computer has been running for over a year.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am having an intermittent problem isnalling different programs in Windows 7. I will get the following error message when the insall fails "Error 1606. Could not access network location %AppDATA%." When I got this error before I was able to get around it by crated another administrator account in Windows to install programs. Since then I have did a clean install of windows and the issue went away until several months ago. So far the programs that I cant install are Java updates, and Quickbooks Starter Edition. Below you will find some basics about my PC.

I am unable to access files on a drive on my computer due to a permission error.It reads "You do not have the correct permission to access this file location"It's hit quite some random files on my computer but none were important enough, and this folder full of important files.I've tried claiming ownership of the files and editing the permissions but to no avail.I've made sure the ownership and permissions are identical to those of a "healthy" file and folder but the problem persists.I am using windows 7?

Next time i log on my drive shows no details and when i click on it says access denied and i cannot enter the drive at all.i have tried many times to unlock to no avail.When i plug my HDD into my older windows xp pc it shows the correct details of the drive and i can access it though not the 3 files i locked but still this does not help.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI just partitioned my external 3.0Tb hard drive using the device manager in Win 7. At first I had one partition of around 2.8Tb, I shrunk the existing partition to around 1.9Tb and then Windows created 3 partitions instead of 2. I ended up with 1 partition of 1.9Tb, 1 partition unallocated of around 100Gb and a 3rd partition of 746Gb unallocated. I was then able to create a simple volume on the 100Gb partition which left me with the 746Gb partition unallocated. When I try to format the 746Gb partition all the options are greyed out - I cannot create a simple volume or delete the partition. I also cannot extend my other 2 partitions to use the unallocated space. When I delete the 100Gb partition I can then extend the 1.9Tb partition and end up with a 2Tb partition and the remaining 746Gb unallocated. Is there any way to recover the 746Gb of unallocated space? Seems a waste to have a 3Tb drive that only has 2Tb of useable space.

View 1 Replies View Relatedi am having a problem with my memory getting tied up / used up and not being able to access it again until i reboot.
machine: dell xps studio 8100
os: win 7,
processor: i7 2.8
ram: 16gb (max it will take)
video: ati radeon 5700 (running 3 monitors)
versions: as far as i know i am running current versions of everything, including video drivers, flash, chrome, etc. (i've tried running chrome with both the build in version of flash and the system version -haven't seen a difference)
browser: i nearly exclusively run chrome / canary with auto-updates so am at the latest builds.what seems to cause me to use up / run out of memory is after i play videos (Internet, netflix, etc.), the memory seems to get used, but is not returned to the system, even if the browser is closed and re-opened.right now for example things are working fine; i rebooted my system a couple hours ago (but have not played any videos). i have adobe lightroom running, picasa, chrome and canary (currently 4 web browser windows open with 52 tabs open). task manager currently shows me using 8.20gb of ram, that seems pretty reasonable to me.
normally my system will keep running properly (if a program is closed, memory is freed up) right up until i start to play any videos (Internet, netflix, etc.) then it will start using up more memory. (of course i expect it to use more memory during playback) however, even if i restart the browser, the memory does not get freed back up. for example, just prior to the reboot, with everything closed, i was using right around 8gb of ram. once i rebooted, i was using 1.something gb of ram prior to opening any programs.however, once i start playing some videos, i never seem to be able to get my ram freed back up again unless i reboot the whole system. this is not just a problem with how much memory the system shows as being available, i frequently actually run out of memory. (task manager will show me as using around 15gb and then everything starts swapping out like crazy).
I find that if I run chkdsk and watch the memory usage in task manager it jumps by about 50MB every 2 seconds or so until it either finishes or hits around 3.2GB at which point my physical memory shows 99% used (I'm running 4GB), and the system of course slows to a crawl.f you just run a quick chkdsk on your boot drive you may not notice it, but try running something longer like chkdsk /r on a flash drive or chkdsk /f on a bigger internal drive (but not your OS drive as this would require a reboot) and watch the memory usage climb. I have duplicated this on both systems I have running Windows 7. My XP machine (checking the same USB flash drive) uses a much more normal amount of memory for chkdsk (20 - 30 MB).

Windows 7 works great.
when I boot up, if i choose xp, error says
"windows will not start because system32/ntoskrnl.exe"
"invalid boot.ini"
"windows could not starte because the following file is missing or invalid windows root system32 ntoskrnl.exe
I did some reading and some places say to put in my xp disk, start up with r for recovery and type bootcfg /list bootcfg/ rebuild
Although I am scared of messing up the windows 7

Every time I try to type my Product key (which I have checked several times and it is correct) I got message saying that my key is invalid. View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a Windows 7 laptop, it has two network connections - one that I use at work; it is a hard wired connection (by DHCP - where the server automatically assigns an I.P. address), and the other wi-fi; which I use at home (again by DHCP where my modem / router assigns an I.P. address).
Recently I performed a Windows update (whilst at home - connected to my wi-fi network) and now when I take my laptop to work I am unable to connect to the internet. The Windows (2000) server knows that my computer is there, and I can access network shares, however I can't browse the web.
I had a look at my network settings by "ipconfig /all" and discovered that my "hard wired" connection is being supplied an invalid Gateway I.P.
Other computer on the network are not receiving an invalid Gateway.
As a temporary fix I have entered a static IP, however I am wondering if anybody knows what may cause my laptop to be assigned an incorrect Gateway IP, particularly when other computers on the work network are not experiencing this issue.
I have a Gateway FX6801-05 which originally had Wiindows Vista installed. I purchased a complete Windows 7 ultimate (not upgrade, not OEM) from eBay. I wiped the disk then installed and verified it without a hitch. Automatic updates has been working fine.Yesterday I changed some things around on my motherboard. When I booted Windows 7 Ultimate, which has been installed on my computer for several years now, it reported that my copy of Windows was invalid. Apparently the motherboard remembered the OEM Vista product number. I tried reauthorization both on the web and by phone using my new product key of Windows 7. The phone reauthorization doesn't even allow me to talk with a support person.Did I really buy an unauthorized Windows 7 ultimate, or is something weird going on here because VISTA OEM was originally installed on this computer?

Then, I started to get this... At least I think I've got through the installation process - the problem starts soon after the bit where you have to name the computer. Soon after, the computer has to restart, but when it does there are some strange noises from the computer and an error flashes onto the screen for a second:Invalid BOOT.INI fileBooting from C:\windows\And then the screen just goes black. I had to boot it up using the Windows 7 CD again and I tried going on repair installation. It checked, tried and failed to repair. One suggestion was to take the hard disk, connect it to another computer and work on it. Ok, so I did that. Took the HD from the 2003 machine, got a connection kit for USB and connected it to my Win7/64 notbook. Of course, that blew up my notebook-When I connected the HD, the laptop froze. Obviously, I had not choice but to remove the external hard drive and reboot. The reboot now ends up in a single line: Invalid Partition Table.I have tried the system Recovery Options on the DVD, but the automatic options don't work. So I need to find another way to restore the partition table.
