View 2 RepliesSo today my friend and I, who live in the same country, was downloading this file.It was around 6GB, which is irrelevant, but yea. It was from the same site, we have the same internet, yet he was downloading with 2.6MB/s while I was downloading with 1.338MB/s and it stayed like that for the remaining 40 minutes. Didn't even move at one point, while his went from 2.1 to 2.6 over 10 minutes. Worth noting, we use the same ISP, he only have 25/2 while I have 50/5, and I could easily download 2 files with the exact same speed (1.338MB/s each but not 1 with 2.6MB/s or more. There's also a client downloader, for this game, where he again got 2.6+ whereas mine always stayed at an amazing 80-180kb/s. I tried disabling anti virus, firewall, Malwarebytes, nothing changed it. I know you're thinking it's just the seeds or site that is limited to an x number of download speed, but it really can't be the case in this. It happens with every site I try. It's always at 1.3xMB/s and never moves regardless of how good it is.
I honestly don't remember, but I don't think this happens when it's a .torrent file, using programs like uTorrent with good p2p. It happens in all browsers, and apparently game client downloaders.I can download 5 different downloads at 1.3xMB/s using all of my available internet, but when it comes to a single file, it for some reason, is impossibleI'm not complaining about the download speed, but it just seems like there's something wrong. My downloads also have a habit of failing in chrome after a few minutes, for no reason. That only happens from some sources though.
I have had this problem ever since the summer. I would tell you the speeds I'm getting from testmy.net, but the page is still loading. It's been over 30 minutes.Anyway, I have installed the drivers for the motherboard that came with the disc and such, and I still have no success. It is really annoying at this point, basically not being able to use my computer.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am hoping someone might be able to shed some light on this problem. When transferring a 3 gig file from my NV+ to my internal hard drive I get speeds of around 300 Kb/s and message saying the transfer will take 18 hours. When i transfer the same file to my wifes computer over the same network the speed jumps to 30MB/s which is what it should be. I cannot understand why this is happening as my wife's computer is way slower than mine with only a core 2 duo processor and 2 gig of ram
View 9 Replies View RelatedAnyway, for a while now I have had this problem of new tabs opening slowly. Whenever I click the new tab button, it will create the new tab, but it will not load for about 3 seconds. I have googled this issue, and have come up with things like disabling addons (I ran IE in the no-addon mode, and it still had the problem), and somebody suggested resetting IE (I did so, but to no avail).
Does anybody have some recommendations, other than switch to FF or Chrome?
My specs are as follows:
Windows 7 Home Edition 64-bit
8gb DDR3 ram
i7 2630qm
Not sure what other specs are needed.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have AT&T DSL internet service and I'm using their 2-Wire 2701HG-B modem/router plus all my phones lines connected to a phone or Sat receiver have their filters installed on them. I'm subscribed to their 3Mbps plan but for quite awhile now I've noticed very slow internet speed.Going to Speedtest.net - Results or Speed Test | Bandwidth | Broadband Internet Services I'm getting download readings as low as .23Kbps to 2.73Mbps (the latter very, very seldon) with an average of under 1.0Mbps.AT&T did a ping or something and can tell I have noise on the line so they say it's probably either the router or one of the phone lines so this morning a tech dropped off a new router (same brand/model) but I can't see any improvement. When the tech came the other day he hooked up his small modem from my phone line to his laptop and ran a speed test and it was consistently 2.5Mbps.So are there any settings on my modem/router that could be slowing things down?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently completed a clean install of windows 7.
I have the i7 950 on the ASUS Rampage II Extreme motherboard.
I am currently experiencing extremely slow usb tranfer speeds.
I get transfer rates on average of 650 KB/second.
I checked the device manager and 2 of the 8 usb controllers say enhanced. The other 6 do not.
According to the specs of the board, all 8 should be usb 2.0.
I have tried letting the system update the drivers, but for all, it retains the current driver.
I even went so far as to disable the controllers and restart. All 8 returned, but with the current drivers.
I tried using the install CD that came with the mobo, but it states that it cannot run using the current OS.
Any thoughts?
i just got a new windows 7 (gateway fx)(os)Windows 7 home premium 64-bit (cpu) intel core i7 processer 2600 (RAM) 16gb DDr3 memory (HDD) 64gb solid-state drive + 2tb hard drive (optical)blu-ray / super-muti combo drive.idk if that helps but i need my download speeds back to normal cuz im downloading wow and other big games in the (gbs) so if u can help that would be GREAT (normal speed 150-200 kbs on old windows xp and on windows 7 10-50kbs
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used to have an Acer laptop until the screen cracked about a week ago and I replaced it with an HP Pavilion. When I was using the Acer laptop, I never had any problems with my college's wifi, but a few days after I switched to the HP laptop I noticed a decrease in browsing speed. This decrease was extreme if the page I was trying to load contained images/videos. Additionally, my download speed was horrific, at about 9 KB/sec. Lastly, I have had trouble connecting to the network, with my computer telling me it can't connect several times before it connects. I uninstalled Java, disabled firewall, uninstalled antivirus programs, cleared browser cache, which helped a bit. Then, oddly at about 8 PM last night, the browsing/download speed of my computer returned to normal. However, it is as slow as ever this morning. I'm fairly certain the increase in speed was due to the fewer number of people connected to the network.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PC's network card is configured as 100 Mbps My NAS Drive is configured as 100 Mbps
My Home Hub 3 shows both connected at 100 Mbps, yet I'm getting a maximum of 1.3M transferring a file to the NAS.
Is there any way I can increase this ? I get the same speed from my 20Mbps download from my DSL.
I am currently running Windows 7 64 bit on a new Dell Precision machine. I bought this machine with the sole purpose of running SolidWorks. The machine has some serious hardware in it and I know it can handle SolidWorks, but it seems to run slow. Boot up times on the machine are quite long, and occasionally it will just freeze on bootup or ask me to log in multiple times. Things seemed to be slowly getting faster until a few days ago when i installed service pack 1. Since then the speed has been terribly slow. Just to provide more information, most of the files I use in my models are stored on our server locally. I have a 1 Gigabit connection from the computer to our server, but when I access files on the server it takes forever. Every time i want to open a new part or do some interaction between the server it goes terrible slow. Once i have the part opened the computer seems to run fine. We just installed new infrastructure so i know all the wires are good. Like I said, the speeds were slow, but getting better, but as soon as i installed service pack 1 the slow speeds have become unbearable. Anyone have any thoughts? Is this a network problem or a computer problem? It seems weird that service pack 1 would cause it to become so slow. The server is running Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit.
View 3 Replies View RelatedMy computer has never been the fastest (Compaq Pressario CQ56), and due to a recent issue with my McAfee Firewall where by it had turned itself off and would not come back on?I have since run subsequent Anti-malware and virus scans which are all coming up clean, however the computer is still horrendously slow when using IE. Internet Explorer is continuously freezing up, and saying it is not responding, after which I have to recover the webpage.....waiting an eternity for it to do so. Even clicking on a new link results in a wait of between 20 - 50 seconds.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI have a really strange issue with Internet Explorer 9. 95% of the time I launch it and everything is pretty much instant. However occasionally it will hang for a few secs on 'waiting for reply'. Tends to happen to all web pages but more specifically noticed it on Google.com and Yahoo.com. It never used to be this way. I have a fibre to cabinet broadband connection and everything is fast. I cannot pinpoint when this started happening. Nothing new on the laptop has been installed, some windows updates a couple weeks ago but in the aftermath of installing these all was fine.
The problem may of existed a lot longer but I had not noticed. The really strange thing is it tends to manifest itself most after poking around in the network/sharing center. I am always looking at the strength of the wifi connection and checking the connected speed of the 5g wifi. Tends to happen most after I've been in here and then launch internet explorer. Slight pause of 3 or 4 seconds and then the page is there (google being my homepage). But not every time. Things I have tried is clearing the IE cache, flush DNS. I could change the DNS settings but namebench revealed my current ones were fastest. Mozilla seems to be responsive all the time. So I am thinking it's more IE9 only showing this odd behaviour. Other than that all is good on the laptop, no other problems.
I've been having some issues with my download/upload speeds lately after upgrading mobo/processor and OS to 7 x64 and I haven't been able to track it. My average wired on other computers are around: 25 (download), 7 (upload) and wireless I generally see: 13 (download), 4 (upload). This particular setup was okay before, and I have another wireless router set up on the other side of my wall giving me full service. I don't have wireless problems with any other devices other then this one.
View 1 Replies View Relatedhave been struggling with my system taking 2-3 minutes to find drivers for any memory stick I plug in to any of 3 USB ports on my Acer 1810T. When the process finally completes, the transfer speeds are about 1MB/s or less.Another (possibly related?) problem is when I insert any SD card in the dedicated slot for the first time, everything is fine. Once I remove and either re-insert (or insert a different card), nothing appears. I get a message saying "process is already in memory". I have to reboot to get things working again.

I currently have GoWifi to access my internet (my room mate has it to)But for the past 4 days my computer has been running horribly slow. I have tried the "ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew" method. I have also tried to Reset WINSOCK, Reset IPv4, Reset IPv6, and then restarted my computer but still did not do the trick. I have tried various things from forums on other sites and this site but it still is not doing the trick. Is there Anything you guys could tell me that could fix my problem? View 10 Replies View RelatedI've recently bought a new PC custom-build from the web 2 weeks ago and I can't get to install any operating system on it.the specs are:
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 (2x 3.00GHz) 1333, 6mb
Power Supply - 450w PowerCool 80+
Motherboard Asus P5QL - P43 Chipset

Whenever I try to install Windows 7 the loading is very slow takes like 10-20 minutes to jump from the first screen to the 2nd until the formatting area where it just says "Failed to format selected partition Error Code: 0x80070057" and when I tried to press next it said "Windows could not format a partition on disk 0. The error occurred while preparing the partition selected for installation Error Code: 0x80070057"
The same thing happens to XP
"Setup was unable to format the partition. The disk may be damaged.Make sure the drive is switched on and properly connected to your computer. If the disk is a SCSI disk, make sure your SCSI devices are properly terminated. Consult your computer manual or SCSI adapter documentation for more information. You must select a different partition for Windows XP.To continue, press ENTER"
Now I've send the PC back to the company as I still have a years warranty and they told me that their Windows Vista CD worked fine, so after I got the PC I tried installing Vista which gave me the same problems (slow loading) and cannot format, I've tried deleting the entire hard disk so I have 1 big Unallocated space and then installing but nothing works it all ends up with the same errors. Then I send the PC back again to them this time with my XP and Windows 7 64 bit DVD, they told me today the winXP cd is too old but the win 7 cd is perfectly fine and they managed to install it in 20 minutes.
I'm completely confused now, why doesn't the installation work for me and it does for them with the same CD? The only difference here and there is probably the psu connector, wireless keyboard/mouse that I have and I'm using a DVI-HDMI converter as my monitor doens't have a HDMI port.I've also tried using ICH sata drivers but Windows 7 doesn't detect any as compatible.Unfortunately they said they have to format the hard disk due to some legal issues before sending back.
I'm trying to install windows 7 from external USB Cdrom. As I noted in topic - installation is deadly slow .. 1% in 20minutes. I was trying to find any options where they can be usb 1.1 or something and couldn't.
View 0 Replies View RelatedI have a very fast system with 16Gb Ram and SSD drives. However when I open a folder containing images, explorer takes ages creating the thumbnails. (Whether small/medium or large icons is selected). OK the first time, but why every subsequent time I open that folder?
If I scroll down, the thumbnails are only created when the next lot of files come into the window. If I am in Details mode, then some columns i.e. Date, take much longer to populate than others. It's as if my windows isn't caching or something?
Windows Explorer on my wife's computer (running W7 Home Premium and completely up to date with Windows Updates) takes 4 or 5 minutes to finish running right after a power-up boot. The hourglass icon seems to sit there forever, but the folders and files finally appear. Later, when running an Explorer-type function, such as saving a file in Word or opening a file in some other application, a long delay occurs again. Her computer hardware and software components are very similar to mine, and I never have this problem. She may have a few hundred more photo files than I have, but I can't identify any significant difference. During these long delays I've watched the Task Manager

View 2 Replies View RelatedIt was all fine until yesterday. I copied over a game from my laptop the night before (I just installed 7 on this computer recently, was copying over stuff from my laptop) and also finished installing World of Warcraft and not long after I turned off the computer.
The next day I switched it on and didn't notice anything at first but some programs wouldn't run (Winamp would have a blank space where the music list normally is).
I tried installing some virtual drive programs such as magic disc and power iso which I usually use for isos I rip onto the computer (I lost some discs before so I've been doing that recently) but the magic disc programs wouldn't run properly and power iso wouldn't progress during its installation.
I tried installing some anti spyware like AVG and Avast (Spyware doctor detected 300 odd tracking cookies that appeared in the past week I installed, way more than it did with my vista laptop) but they would just either not respond (and then pop up with a message saying it took a while and wouldn't respond) or just not even progress when it was installing (on the part where it begins putting down files)
Explorer itself is slow and takes a while to load when on "My computer" and usually wouldn't display USB drives. Once it did but it didn't actually open it up when I clicked on it and prevented the window from responding.
I have used task manager to close all these down when they wouldn't.
When I tried switching off my computer it just stayed on the logging off/shutting down screen. I tried leaving it overnight, expecting it to finally switch off but it only ende up going into sleep mode (and popped up with the log in screen when I waked it up)
I have switched the computer off and on a few times but its still the same.
I also got the disc I used to install and tried to repair it but it wouldn't boot from the disc when I switched on the PC and when I opened it up and ran the setup file, it came up with the usual "are you sure you want to run this" dialog and didn't do anything.
Apart from moving my profile to another disk, what can i do to prevent my mouse getting slow while some bigger setup or file extraction is running? Change location of TEMP files folder to another drive - Microsoft Community
