Idle Computer Mysterious Crashes
my mini computer is a funny one, i can be sitting working on it for hours on end without any hick ups but always whenever i leave it for a while to go do something else, when i come back it has crashed, automatically rebooted so no bluescreen. but it only crashes like this if i leave it idle, turned on.
What processes does windows start when the computer is not engaged by a user? because it has to be something like that which makes it fault and reboot right?

Mysterious, Second Unidentified Network Showing Up
Win7 beta7000: Win7 install process correctly id'd my network & set it up using dhcp. After successful install, I went back and configured the NIC with a fixed ip and "joined" an existing "Home Network." Now, I didn't notice when it started but over the last few days, the system has been reporting TWO network connections. 1st connection is reported as "Network local area and internet" and is classified as a "Home Network." The 2nd cnxn is reported as "Network local area and internet" and is classified as a "Unidentified." Both are identified as having the same card. They have same MAC, the same the same IPv4 and IPv6 information.  Both show the same amount of data transferred.  If I disable either one, both connections go down and I'm off the network. Re-enable either one and everything is fine again. Except that there are two of the same connection showing. Ideas?

Hotmail Crashes Computer
I was using hotmail when I clicked on my address book and the computer crashed. White screen with vertical lines showing. Totally unresponsive. I had to manually shut the computer down using the button on the front of the computer, alt-control-del did nothing. After multiple reboots I am unable to access hotmail. IE8 simply times out when I try to navigate to their site. All other internet sites seem to work fine. I am running Windows 7 RC 32-bit version Avast free with an amd athlon 3500+ 2 gigabyte RAM ATI Radeon xpress 200. I recently enabled ECN on this computer, I wondered if this might have had anything to do with the problem. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Media Player Crashes Computer Playing CD
So I have been trying to play/rip this CD I just got, but I have been having no luck at all. It will start playing the song, and continue playing the whole song, but the rest of the computer crashes so I am forced to restart. I don't get why one program would crash the whole computer like that. I've also tried to rip the CD, and it would rip about 4 tracks and then the computer would crash and it would stop. Anyone having a similar problem or know how to fix this one? It is an imported Japanese CD by the way, not sure if that matters or not.

BSODs When Idle And Reboot
Starting approximately one week ago, if the computer sits idle more than a few hours, it will BSOD and reboot, BSOD again during startup. Startup repair fails, then when system restore is used the machine boots/runs like nothing ever happened. The computer will run fine until it sits idle, usually between 3-7am CDT it will BSOD and it all starts over again. Seems something is sending through an incompatible update, but I can't figure out what/from where, or its Viral (Panda found nothing). Memcheck finds no problems. I am able to boot to safe mode (usually). It has never BSOD while running games (the current preoccupation is a steam game). Machine is an ASUS Crosshair II Formula/Phenom 9850/EVGA GTX 260/Corsair Dominator 1066 4GB/IDE 160G HD. SATA drives might show in the report are a failed raid 5 set (disconnected). I cant recover the data from them as the recovery takes more than a day and this machine can't make it through the night without going down. The machine previously was left on most of the time without issue. Here are the important parts of the stop message: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL STOP 0x000000D1 (0xFFFFFA0004460E10, 0x00000000000002,0x0000000000000,0xFFFFF8800158A49A *** NETIO.SYS ADDRESS FFFFF8800158A49A BASE AT FFFFF88001581000 I tried disabling all startup programs in msconfig to no avail. I dont see anything in services to attribute middle of the night BSODs, nor do I see any critical MS updates marked to DL/install.

RAM Usage At 46% Idle
My Win 7 Acer RAM (3GB) is running at 46% idle? This seems to be alot? Though it does not increase that much with windows open, even when I open WMP and play music it only goes up to 49-50%. I use the gadget on screen and double check it with task manager, they are the same. This is more than the previous Vista Basic machine, which I returned, it ran at 40%? Is there a way to adjust or sort this? Oh, this morning it went up 99% and I could not switch it off, I had to hold the button to switch off?

Hard Drives Spinup After Being Idle
I've noticed Windows XP and Windows 7 doing this.. anyone know the reason? I've got 5 hard drives plugged in. Before going to bed i'll be browsing the net, so only my C drive will be active (temp files, etc).. the other spin down. I've noticed that when I decide to go to bed, about 5-10 minutes after having not touched the computer, at least one of my other hard-drives spin up. I have defrag scheduling disabled, I don't run any antivirus, and nothing else I have does any sort of idle work. It has to be something in Windows directly.. the question is, why does it spin up the other drives?

Win7 Uses 1gb RAM Idle
Two days ago it used only about 600 MB of Ram when idle. Yesterday it suddenly started using 1 GB idle and it froze a few times. Why the sudden change? Can you help me decrease the usage? PS If it helps, the problem started after installing G Data AV (before I used Nod32) and now I installed nod again and the usage is still the same. I enclosed a picture from Resource Monitor in the attachments. Explorer.exe is using 70mb. Is that normal?

Reboots Upon Waking From System Idle
I just upgraded to Windows 7 Pro from XP Pro and surprisingly little problems. The one item that is troubling me is that when I wake the system after it has been idle everything is fine for about 15 seconds and then the computer shuts down and reboots. I have looked at task manager and I dodn't see anything that appears odd to me. I was wondering if this could be caused by any utilities that I had in XP and when I re-imported my files and settings if there is something that is causing this. I haven't been able to find anyone else with this problem.

BSOD Boot Loop During Idle And Standby
I've been running Windows 7 Beta 64-bit for a few months, to see how it works with my software and hardware. I've been experiencing a problem for a while, and I can't pin point when it started to happen, or what had changed to cause it. Quite regularly I leave my computer idle for minutes or hours at a time, whilst I do other things. Sometimes I put Windows in standby mode (S3), and other times, I'll leave it on. What seems to happen quite frequently is that Windows crashes all by itself, and reboots. It starts loading again, and after the windows logo has disappeared - just before the log in GUI is about to load - a BSOD appears for about 2 seconds, whilst a message stating 'crash dump to disk' or something similar, scrolls up to 100. At this point, the computer reboots, and the loop continues. The only way to get out of it, is to F8 during POST, and chose my regular disk to boot from into Windows XP. (It's worth noting, W7B is installed on it's own separate, dedicated hard disk, which is set as default boot disk). Once I restart from XP, Windows 7 loads fine. So far, I've not been able to identify when this BSOD crash happens, because I am usually away from the computer. When I return, it's usually in the process of re-booting. Things I've noticed are: This has occurred both in standby (s3) And during idle, although in this state, it has been during the monitor going into power save mode. It's important to realise that this doesn't happen all the time. Sometimes W7B will be rock solid, during these two states. It appears to be random, but more frequent than not.

Frequent CPU Spikes To 100% While Idle
Overall I've been fairly impressed with Windows 7, but an issue has popped up that's causing me quite a headache. At random intervals, my CPU speed goes up to around 100%, and becomes unusable. It happens regardless of what I'm doing, and what programs happen to be open. I've tried monitering the processes causing it, yet strangely when it happens the resource manager doesn't say which process is hogging the CPU. The only events that are ever logged are ones stating that the computer had been restarted without properly shutting it down. One possible clue: when said processor spikes happen, the network status indicator says that I only have "limited connectivity". I've tried updating all of my drivers, with no relief. I'm running an AMD Kuma dual core processor, 4gigs of ram, geforce 9800gtx graphics, and am using windows 7 build 7100 (x64).

EXPLORER.EXE Crashes, MMC.EXE Crashes, Moviemaker.exe Error
I want to love Win7 so badly, but this is just crazy. I'm about to go back to good old XP, simply for the stability. I'm about fed up with Windows 7 after only using it for two weeks. Off of a brand new and formatted clean install, with only Norton NIS 2010, Itunes, Adobe Reader, and Firefox 3.5.7 installed, I get constant explorer.exe crashes. Shortly followed by an mmc.exe crash, then it just gets caught up in a never-ending explorer.exe crash that only a reboot resolves, for a short time. All drivers are up to date, and all Win 7 updates have been applied. I've even formatted and re-installed Win7 only to have explorer begin crashing a day later. This is all on a stock Dell Inspiron 545 quad core, 8GB RAM, etc. I'm very tech savvy and am about jump off of the Win 7 bandwagon. Maybe the Apple Mac commercials are correct, another fumbled attempt at a stable OS from Microsoft? After extensive reading, it appears that many others are suffering through this ____ also. Some get it while attempting to right click any icon, some when launching apps, some, like me , for no apparent reason at all. I don't ever get the BSOD, but the computer is essentially non-functional due to explorer restarting all the time. I've done a ton of reading and have tried sfc /scannow, which found no errors. I've tried shellexview, to no avail for the context handlers. I've uninstalled and re-installed all non-MS apps. I've tried everything that I've read, and it eventually starts crashing again. It is very random, and I can find no patterns that cause the explorer crashing. It works for two days, then goes haywire. Sometimes it only works for an hour before the explorer crashes begin. And yes, this is a fully licensed and legal copy of Win 7 Pro that I purchased through CDW. A side note, this computer ran WIN XP perfectly. All hardware has been tested and is perfect. If anyone has found a fix for this issue, then please chime in! Below are the errors that populate the Event Viewer: Activation context generation failed for "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryMovieMaker.Exe".Error in manifest or policy file "c:program files (x86)windows livephoto galleryWLMFDS.DLL" on line 8. When Idle, Screen Freezes, Sometimes Leads To Hard Reboot
I installed windows 7 before yesterday on my Dell studio xps 13, No problems during installation, nor do i have any other problem apart from when i do not touch my computer for about 3 minutes, at which point the screen stays the same, but then when i start typing it sais "Please wait", then i ahve to wait 20 seconds to be able to actually start doing anything. This on its own is already quite annoying, but then sometimes the it does not respond at all, and i have to hard reboot the whole thing. Also when my computer is idle long enough to go into sleep mode, the screen does not seem to want to wake up after. And lastly(not that important really), the scroller on the trackpad(the right most part of it. no actual physical wheel), doesn't seem to work, are there any drivers for this?

4 + Gb RAM On 32bit Win 7 - Is Part Of It Sitting Idle ?
After upgrading memory I've read a lot about address space limitations, PAE,DEP, 4GT, memory used by system and used by applications and a bunch of other stuff (probably should be doing this before). Doesn't help as statements often are contradictory. Could some one from MSFT answer a strait question: is part of the RAM above 3.3 GB (3.3gb is reported as total on my system) used somehow or is it just sitting idle (default system settings)?

Magicjack, Vista Compatibility Mode, Excessive Memory Usage At Idle
I use a SIP-based VOIP device called Magicjack. It loads at startup and many people have gotten it to work under Windows 7 by starting it with a switch that disables the splash screen. The only way I can get it to work on my system (AMD quad core, 6G RAM) is to run it in Vista compatibility mode. However, when I do this it loads with a footprint of about 40M and then just grows the footprint at idle at a rate of about 30-40M per hour. The footprint in native Vista is about 20M and stable.Any ideas on what's happening or why it won't run without compatibility mode turned on?

Locks Up After Idle - Can't Back Up Hard Drive / Download Large Files
I'm having problems with windows 7. I originally was having problems with the computer going into sleep and being unable to get out. I changed the BIOS to S3 for power, and went into Power Plan and changed it to 'High Performance', with turn off display at 'Never', put the computer to sleep 'Never'. This fixed the idling issues. However, now when I leave my computer on for a time to download files or backup my harddrive (using an HP SimpleSave which is taking hours), the computer is locking up after some amount of unuse (don't know the exact time, but probably less than an hour). When I'm using Windows 7, everything runs fine, this is only during idle. I am using Windows 7 64 Home Edition. - Oh yeah, I've also read on a few forums where the issue was with the taks bar being hidden. My task bar has never been hidden.

Why won't the task start with an idle condition?

The same conditions are persisitant: ImToo DVD Ripper is running, but idle, and the system tried to enter standby. No other apps are running, nothing is loggend in the event logs.Is there a way to force the problem/resolution check as you could in Vista under Control Panel?

Program Usage = 100% CPU But CPU = 10% When Idle
I have a Dell Dimension 2400 with 1 gb of ram, 80 gb harddrive, 2.4 ghz intel celeron and a nvidia geforce 6200 graphics card with a clean install. Everything runs fine with no driver issues and 2.8 processor rating. I also turned Aero off - using Aero Basic but thats not causing it. It idles betwenn 5-7% and 46% memory. But, whenever I open or use any program the cpu usage hits 100% and slows the program down. When I leave the program idle it goes back down but when I use it, it goes back up. Open Windows Media Play, hits 100% then back down. Try to watch a move, goes to 100%. While playing the file, drops to 80%-100% With IE8, idle fine, open new tab or window or change sites 100%. The same with other non window programs - winrar, process explorer, dixv player, real player. ANY program uses 100% during usage but much lower when said program is idle. Does anyone know what is causing my Cpu to yoo-yoo like this?
