View 1 RepliesI have installed Windows 7 Home Premium. The Account (Michael) is an admin account. All my documents are located on another Hard Drive. I have changed the location of the corresponding document folders to the other HDD. (using the right click on select person folder, change location).A make a new standard account and I was shocked to find that this account can access all of the Michael's account documents, they're even indexed so when I search from the start menu, my own documents, videos and photos quite easily show up in the results. Just has to open up Computer, open the HDD with the documents, and walla! There they are. For all to view. How is this so? Nothing is private. In any way. This is ridiculous. These are actually listed under my personal folder, but accessible to anyone. Doesn't even state the standard account needs permission. Plus it's indexed!I've tried changing the security settings on the folder, to no avail. I've looked in the indexing locations, and my personal folder isn't even listed in the areas to index

The problem is that other admins can take ownership of my folder and change permissions. What can I do? (besides using specialized third party software)

I've never had this problem before, but since yesterday I've been encountering these blue screens.Should I just reformat? Is my RAM defective? Is it another program or virus causing this to happen?

View 4 Replies View RelatedMy laptop has suddenly seized up and I think it might be to do with a security conflict - Norton security scan appears to now be on my laptop through, I think, some vigorous pop-ups which must have got past me. I've just installed - reinstalled - AVG 2013 (no idea why I lost it in the first place) so feel reasonably protected and want to try to get rid of Norton Security Scan to see if that unblocks the slowness. But it won't uninstall, claiming always to be running.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIn Windows XP there was an option where I could make all my user folders and files in my profile private. In Windows 7 I just cant find the setting anywhere. I have two users on my computer. Me (as administrator) and my girlfriend (as standard user)
Whenever she is doing a search or browse the folders on the computer she gets a lot of results and all my documents and pictures is showing up. No restriction at all. She can delete, edit and so on. I can (obviously) do the same to her files and folders. We both have password protected profiles.
When ever I do a search all her files / mail and documents shows up, because the indexing service is generally at one configuration. All users can search/browse all files in every profile on the computer.
In Windows XP that simply did not happen.
Så where is the setting to make my private folders/files private? if there is a simple way. It seems like Microsoft forgot something otherwise.
I have been searching the 'Net to no avail - is there any way I can access a private folder over a home network? I have a private folder on my desktop that I would like to access over my network, but don't want others to be able to access it. All of our computers (desktop, laptop, netbook) are all on the same homegroup.
View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen I go on the internet I can go to any site but one. It says that windows could not connect to proxy server. I have tried everything I could think of. I added it to trusted sites, reset the proxy, tried several commands and haven't gotten anywhere. It won't pull up the particular site in IE or firefox, but it will pull it up on any other computer.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently moved a work computer to my home to use in my home office and i now can't connect to the Internet. I have the computer directly connected to my wireless router through an Ethernet cord. All other computers that are connected wirelessly seem to work absolutely fine. When i open up network and sharing center and try and run the troubleshoot problems I constantly get the following error message "windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings".
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have found a temporary workaround by way of using Hotspot Shield's free VPN services, but I would like to create my own proxy server at home instead so I can avoid the constant timeouts/disconnects involved with the free service. So far I've set up my PC to use a static IP on the network, and forwarded port 1723 to that address. I've also enabled incoming connections under adapter settings, but it just seems like I'm missing something big here. I am unable to make a connection to my home PC from my iPhone over WAN, and even if I was able to I'm not sure how to enable internet connection sharing over that connection.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 Ultimate. I always have ran Malwarebytes Daily and RegCure.I had a trojan make it past Malwarebytes so I decided to give Avast a try. Didnt like Avast so I uninstalled it and went back with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes didnt get it out, so I have Hitman Pro when I need it. Got the 2012 Trojan out. Now when windows loads it fails to load my Proxy Settings. Then I run the troubleshooter and it tells me this: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings So I tried all the netsh resets and it didnt help. Tried winsock. Nothing helped. Went into DevManager and nothing is grayed and no exclamations.I uninstalled the drivers for the net card and wifi card and restarted to let them reinstall. Nothing still. I opened Network Connections, NOTHING shows up. I also overwrote the Sys32 file nlasvc.dll and nothing happened.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have recently run a virus scanner from mcaffee stinger. I had several virusus and it removed them. Although there gone I had just booted my laptop and it wont let me connect to the internet. It said limited access on the icon. I troubleshooted the windows network diagnostics and it said this. Problem found windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings. Whatever I try to run as administrator it will come up with an error saying
C:/Windows/system32/cmd.exe <-that was an example the name changes for different items.
I basically cant use it at all now. I go to the control panel and click right click properties to disable and it will come up with the same error. It also said windows has encountered an error saving the wireless profile specific error: the data is invalid.
Firefox, Steam, Filezilla, Skype all work.IE, Chrome, Evernote and others all dont.Windows Network Diagnostic tool says: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings..Its not a virus or malware, its likely because i removed registry keys related to old web filtering software. In the Internet Options settings it is set to automatically detect settings and no proxy server is set.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to configure a Windows 7 computer to set the default proxy settings by machine and not by user. I've managed to find the policy in [HKEY_LOCAL_..."ProxySettingsPerUser" and when I set that to 0 it gives me the effect I want and doesn't force me to edit the settings for each user.Similar to the problem this guy: ProxySettingsPerUser had. The proxy settings are now supposedly given from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE area but after hours spent googling and trying to edit the proxy settings none of my attempts seemed to change it at all. where the computer searches for proxy settings when ProxySettingsPerUser is set to 0? I read that on XP it was the same place but in HKLM not HKCU but this does not seem to work in Windows 7.
