Windows 7 Could Not Automatically Detect This Networks Proxy Settings
Aug 2, 2011
I recently moved a work computer to my home to use in my home office and i now can't connect to the Internet. I have the computer directly connected to my wireless router through an Ethernet cord. All other computers that are connected wirelessly seem to work absolutely fine. When i open up network and sharing center and try and run the troubleshoot problems I constantly get the following error message "windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings".

I have Windows 7 Ultimate. I always have ran Malwarebytes Daily and RegCure.I had a trojan make it past Malwarebytes so I decided to give Avast a try. Didnt like Avast so I uninstalled it and went back with Malwarebytes. Malwarebytes didnt get it out, so I have Hitman Pro when I need it. Got the 2012 Trojan out. Now when windows loads it fails to load my Proxy Settings. Then I run the troubleshooter and it tells me this: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings So I tried all the netsh resets and it didnt help. Tried winsock. Nothing helped. Went into DevManager and nothing is grayed and no exclamations.I uninstalled the drivers for the net card and wifi card and restarted to let them reinstall. Nothing still. I opened Network Connections, NOTHING shows up. I also overwrote the Sys32 file nlasvc.dll and nothing happened.

I have recently run a virus scanner from mcaffee stinger. I had several virusus and it removed them. Although there gone I had just booted my laptop and it wont let me connect to the internet. It said limited access on the icon. I troubleshooted the windows network diagnostics and it said this. Problem found windows could not automatically detect this networks proxy settings. Whatever I try to run as administrator it will come up with an error saying
C:/Windows/system32/cmd.exe <-that was an example the name changes for different items.
I basically cant use it at all now. I go to the control panel and click right click properties to disable and it will come up with the same error. It also said windows has encountered an error saving the wireless profile specific error: the data is invalid.

I think I am having a problem with a trojan, "Backdoor:Win32/Cycbot.B". MSE (Microsoft Security Essentials) has removed this trojan twice in the past 2 days. It says it's deleted successfully, but I'm having symptoms that say otherwise. What's been happening that tells me something is not right is that since yesterday, when I open a browser (any browser), I get a message that the proxy is refusing the connection, and when I check the settings, it shows the connection settings have been changed to "Manual Proxy Settings" with my computer's local host IP used as the proxy IP. I have searched for removal tools, but Firefox's Web of Trust tells me all the search results are rated "bad/" and the Microsoft Malware Encyclopedia doesn't offer a link for one.

For the past few weeks I have been having problems with my HP laptop.
For starters my laptop will not restart. I try to restart it and it shuts down, but won't reboot all of the way. It gets stuck on the black screen you get just before the HP sceens comes up. So I have to press the power button ( after which I do, I get a loud POP sound before the computer shuts off ) and then turn it on again myself. Also, if my computer goes in to sleep mode due to inactivity, it will not wake up. I have to press the power button to turn it off, and then start it up again.
After this happens, my laptop cannot detect any networks. I have to unplug the charger, and then I have to take out the battery and put it back in before it detects networks.
I took it to best buy ( where I bought the computer and have a warranty at ) and they did a diagnostic test and determined that I had several viruses causing the problems. After paying 200 bucks they ''fixed'' my computer and I brought it home, only to have the same exact problems I was having before.

Firefox, Steam, Filezilla, Skype all work.IE, Chrome, Evernote and others all dont.Windows Network Diagnostic tool says: Windows could not automatically detect this network's proxy settings..Its not a virus or malware, its likely because i removed registry keys related to old web filtering software. In the Internet Options settings it is set to automatically detect settings and no proxy server is set.

I'm trying to configure a Windows 7 computer to set the default proxy settings by machine and not by user. I've managed to find the policy in [HKEY_LOCAL_..."ProxySettingsPerUser" and when I set that to 0 it gives me the effect I want and doesn't force me to edit the settings for each user.Similar to the problem this guy: ProxySettingsPerUser had. The proxy settings are now supposedly given from the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE area but after hours spent googling and trying to edit the proxy settings none of my attempts seemed to change it at all. where the computer searches for proxy settings when ProxySettingsPerUser is set to 0? I read that on XP it was the same place but in HKLM not HKCU but this does not seem to work in Windows 7.

I recently bought a TP-LINK TL-WN350GD wireless network card, inserted it into a PCI-E slot and installed the drivers, but can't seem to get it to work. It appears in Device Manager as 'Atheros AR5007G Wireless Network Adapter' and apparently 'this device is working properly', but infuriatingly it won't detect any wireless networks. I've tried using the drivers that Windows 7 installed automatically and also the drivers that came on the disk with it, but all to no avail. When I troubleshoot the card, I get the message that 'there might be a problem with the driver for the Wireless Network Connection 2 adapter', but this is all I can find. It's especially irritating as I picked the (admittedly lower-end) card because it's definitely compatible with Windows 7 (I already tried one which wasn't).My PC has Windows 7 64-bit, has an AMD Athlon 4600 dual core CPU and 2 gigs of RAM.

Or I'm just dense.I just downloaded Windows 7 and I can connect to the internet with my ethernet cord but not using wireless. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad laptop, with Windows 7 home x64. As soon as I turn my computer on and the system finds available connections, the system connects itself automatically to the first WiFi network it finds. Usually this would be my home network, which is fine. But occasionally, this would be my neighbor's unprotected network, which is not as fine.
Potentially, this could be a malicious network, monitoring my internet traffic, which is not fine at all. A possible solution might be to check upon system start that the correct network is used. However, if the connection is accidentally broken, for whatever reason, the system again connects itself to the next available network, which is again problematic. How can I stop this automatic WiFi connections?

brand new lappy. its the Acer travelmate 5740G fantastic specs - everything is nice and responsive, except that i can't connect my wireless at uni. the tech guy had a look at it and he can't figure it out either. we did everything, including shutting down (eventually deleting) the AV because of its firewall. we set up the network exactly as everyone else does (and it works for everyone else).
the computer keeps suggesting that we check the router (but the router works). i can get net through RJ45 no worries but... i want my wireless to work.

My Linksys WRT120N router no longer works, so I bought a D-Link DIR-655, which has Gigabit ports.I have a PC with Win 7 64-bit with an Atheros L1 Gigabit Ethernet built in the motherboard, an ASUS P5B-VM SE. I also have 4 GB of RAM and internal hard disks connected via SATA 2. The PC is connected to the router via a Cat 5 cable with the label "Type CM24AWG UL E188L30".I also bought a Buffalo Linkstation Live LS-CHLV2 NAS with a 2 TB HD, and it's supposed to have a Gigabit port, too. The NAS is connected to the router via the Cat 5 cable included with the NAS.I checked the settings of the Atheros, and it uses "auto" for the media type (other choices range from 10Mbps Half Duplex to 1000Mbps Full Duplex. The maximum frame size is 1514 (the default), and the receive and transmit buffers at 256. There is no "jumbo frame" property in the configurations. The NAS only has frame size for the configuration, and it's currently set at 1518 (the default). Other options are 4102, 7422, and 9694 (all labeled as "jumbo" frame sizes).
I ran LAN Speed Test from the PC with a folder in the NAS as the destination, and the results for a 100-MB file are 34 Mbps for writing and 71 Mbps for reading.I experimented by setting the Atheros media type to 1000Mbps Full Duplex and the maximum frame size to 9694. I went to the NAS and set the frame size to the highest, 9694. The transfer speed became worse.I could not find any settings in the router except for MTU for Internet connections, but I think that's not used for network file transfers, so I did not change it (the default is 1500).I would like to know if the system and components I have are supposed to be enough to do file transfers between the NAS and the PC that are faster than the results I've gotten. Also, is it necessary to modify Ethernet configurations? Finally, I do not what else to do except to do the LAN Speed test using the ff. options:
1. connect the NAS directly to the PC
2. connect to another PC, probably a laptop, that has Gigabit ethernet and is connected to the router
3. buy two cables that are identified for Gigabit networks and to replace the ones connecting the PC and the NAS to the router

My laptop battery is almost dead. I had purchased it almost 2 years back and now it gives me a battery backup of just around 40 minutes. So most of the time I have to keep the charger connected. To be honest, I don't find it safe to connect the charger all the time as the battery may get further damaged due to over-charging.
My question is that is there any software which would stop my charger from charging the battery till say around 30% and when the battery drains to 30%, the charging resumes automatically. When completed (reaches 100%), it stops charging again (but the charger is still connected) and then waits for the battery to drain to 30% and restarts the process.

When I go on the internet I can go to any site but one. It says that windows could not connect to proxy server. I have tried everything I could think of. I added it to trusted sites, reset the proxy, tried several commands and haven't gotten anywhere. It won't pull up the particular site in IE or firefox, but it will pull it up on any other computer.

I have found a temporary workaround by way of using Hotspot Shield's free VPN services, but I would like to create my own proxy server at home instead so I can avoid the constant timeouts/disconnects involved with the free service. So far I've set up my PC to use a static IP on the network, and forwarded port 1723 to that address. I've also enabled incoming connections under adapter settings, but it just seems like I'm missing something big here. I am unable to make a connection to my home PC from my iPhone over WAN, and even if I was able to I'm not sure how to enable internet connection sharing over that connection.

As an initial note, this has absolutely nothing to do with illegal activity, despite the fact that it sounds suspect in nature. But, here we go:
I want to proxy internet traffic from my house through a router in another home, and preferably only the traffic from one laptop in my house. For example:
Laptop: Home A -> router in Home B -> www Other computers: Home A -> www
I believe that the simplest way to accomplish this would be having a dedicated computer in House B, which my laptop could remotely control. However, I'm trying to avoid having a computer constantly on in House B. Also, I have full access to both networks, routers, etc...

I think I may be dealing with two separate issues here, but let me just tell you what's going on:When trying to connect to the internet through both a wireless router and my local area connection, my browsers give me error saying, "X is trying to connect using a proxy server that is not responding."When I troubleshoot either of these connections, it tells me the DNS server is not responding. My roommate's computer, also a brand-new Windows 7 laptop, is also unable to connect, as is my Android phone. My dad is also having a similar problem with his connections, though when he resets the modem it will resolve the problem for a day or two.I have tried:Rebooting computer, modem and wireless routerReconfiguring the wireless routerDefining the DNS address to OpenDNS addresses and Google DNS addressesReturning the DNS to be found automaticallyDisabling/enabling both internet connectionsReleasing and renewing my IP addressTalking directly with my ISP supportAnd countless other Googled remedies.I would think it was only a problem with the modem - however, when my computer is connected to a new wireless network somewhere else, it still returns the same proxy error

My computer (Win 7) is behind a proxy server at work. They have disabled the ping service. They told me it is disabled for security reasons, and everytime I try to ping a host, the connection times out. However I normally use ping as a good diagnostic to check if I have an internet connection or not. We experience frequent network problems, and I'd like to be able to at least narrow down the problem each time. Are there any other diagnostic tools/utilities I can use to test if my network is down because
a) my computer has lost its connection to the proxy server.
or
b) the proxy server has lost its connection due to ISP issues (or any other reason).
