Windows 7 Install - Use Default 'Administrator'?

Jan 28, 2011

I'm going to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on a desktop PC. Now it's going to be added to a domain, and not use local workgroup. Therefore I don't want to mess around with setting up an account, and deleting it after joining the domain. Is there any way to skip setting up an account, and just use the local administrator account - or even join it onto the domain directly?

Windows 7 Default Administrator Account

Jun 22, 2012

I have a load of Windows 7 laptops/pc's on a domain and wondered if the general feeling was to leave the default administrator acct disabled and create another local admin (although obviously I realise there will be domain admins as well) It was my understanding that leaving it disabled and not changing the password allows you to activate it should you need to

Fixing The Magnify.exe After Enabling Default Administrator

Aug 8, 2011

I got locked out and followed the directions to enable to default administrator,,When I went to change passwords I did not change the magnify.exe back to the cmd.exe. Now I can't I have to be a trusted installer. There are also three of them. One is in the x86 folder, one int he Sys/WOW64, and another in amd64_microsoft-widows-magnify, this one and the first I mentioned have the same log group of numbers and lettrs following it.

It's making things even more difficult to do cause I can't open a comand prompt at all without rebooting. Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to identify which is the correct magnify.exe to change back to cmd.exe. I do have one that is oldmagnify.ext. Should it be that one.

And then one more problem. Now I am not the adminstrator so I need a "trusted installer" to make the change. My default administrator can't do it either because I created a profile for my network to use the same one on my Vista to share files in case I'm ever locked out again. I think by doing that the system automatically took full level admin rights away from my default admin!

Default User Account (Administrator) Acts Like Standard Account

Oct 31, 2011

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.

I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

Why Doesn't Local Administrator Group Have Full Administrator Rights

Feb 22, 2010

A little background and info: I support a number of people who for one reason or another need to be able to do things a local admin can do like install programs and start services (or more accurately allow a program they're running to start a service). All users are in the local administrators group. The local admin account is enabled (and renamed) so that we as administrators have local access when the machine comes in for service. The machines are joined to a AD domain so that we can control a lot of the security via GPO. Everything worked fine in XP.

We are getting a few different "you do not have permission" errors. When the user tries to run OpenAFS (which starts a service) they get a "you do not have permission" error. There is no way around this error.

Also, when the users try to run Lotus Notes they get a "you do not have permission" error. When we go into compatibility mode and check the "run as administrator" (or just right click and "run as administrator) it works fine, but they have to click the elevated privileges. The program was installed while logged in as the user.

Again, all users are members of the local administrators group. When the local admin account logs in all these programs run fine. This behavior started in Vista and I chalked it up to "vista sucks". Windows 7 so far seems to be great, except that like in vista, members of the local administrators group are not really local administrators. How do I make them true local administrators?

Drag & Drop Works For Hidden Administrator But Not For Administrator User?

Feb 14, 2011

I use an old XP app (JetToolbar - available at JetToolBar - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) and do not want to change but I cant make it work on Windows 7. The application installs and starts up just fine but it is not possible to drag icons/programs/files to the toolbar - I just get the 'no entry' sign (Circle with line through)However, the application runs fine when logged on to the hidden Administrator account. If I set up the application in the hidden Admin account and then log on as a normal admin user and run it from that account, the icons I set up are just not visible. So what do I have to change in my normal user account (member of administrators) to make this drag and drop work?I have tried 'Run as administrator' but that made no difference. Ive read about dropping to 'Run as User' apps from 'Run as Admin' apps but that's not the problem (at least problem occurs when app is run as user or run as admin)

Make Mc7 Default Audio Output Separate From System Default?

Mar 6, 2012

My issue is that i would like to be able to have media center audio play only through my tv and not through my pc main speaker system, tv is hooked through hdmi output on graphics card, speaker system through 5.1 output on motherboard. I have tried the audiorenderupdater extender but all that does is set default audio out for entire system, so when itunes is used or game is played on computer audio goes through tv. I would like all system noises, media player, and game audio to run through pc speakers and simultaneously all media center audio (recorded/live tv) to go through tv audio, so i can watch sports center while playing mass effect and have audio from sportscenter on tv audio from mass effect on pc speakers.

Also is there a way to separate media player's actions from media center's. For example if you are laying music in media player and then open media center and play a tv show, music playback stops, not a big deal just like media player better than itunes and would like to be able to watch tv in media center while playing music in media player rather than itunes

Can't Run As Administrator

Jul 26, 2011

I just installed Windows 7, Comodo, Firefox, and Itunes on a C300 64GB SSD, and noticed that I can't run programs as Administrator (even though I'm logged in as one) all the 'check boxes' are 'greyed' out. I've been reading forums and trying suggestions all day nothing works. I've created a new Admin account which didn't work and I've tried running FSUTIL from the command prompt, which also doesn't work (says I need Admin rights)... same with Net USER. I'll reinstall if I have to, but this would be my 4th time due to previous install errors..

Unable To Run As Administrator

That is, when want to format my hard drive, I (according to previous posts) right click on computer management, and select "Run as administrator" then open up the disk management and "format" will appear as an option in bold.It doesn't.Format is shaded no matter what.I was able to get rid of a nasty virus checker that disabled my machine by forcing safe mode and garbage canning the virus checker, but I wonder if it damaged my machine. Also, F8 doesn't work on this machine, it never has.

Now, when I try to run any program that I hadn't run in Windows Vista, it gives me an error message saying "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for this file. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this" or something on similar lines. I can't run any updates because of 'An unknown error'. I had upgraded with the help of a USB Flash drive. I also tried disabling digital signature checking using F8, but to no avail. I can't even re-enable AVG Anti-Virus, which i had disabled during my upgrade to speed up the process.

I have tried to set compatibility mode and choose run as administrator. All are greyed out. I can right click on the installer and run as administrator is not an option either. I am the administrator of the domain also, which should not make any difference.
