Windows 7 Install - Use Default 'Administrator'?
Jan 28, 2011
I'm going to install a fresh copy of Windows 7 on a desktop PC. Now it's going to be added to a domain, and not use local workgroup. Therefore I don't want to mess around with setting up an account, and deleting it after joining the domain. Is there any way to skip setting up an account, and just use the local administrator account - or even join it onto the domain directly?

I have a load of Windows 7 laptops/pc's on a domain and wondered if the general feeling was to leave the default administrator acct disabled and create another local admin (although obviously I realise there will be domain admins as well) It was my understanding that leaving it disabled and not changing the password allows you to activate it should you need to

I recently purchased a laptop with windows 7 home premiuim edition. All my files which were backed up from my old laptop on to hard disk were kind of encrypted , so when I try to copy them or change the encryption check box, I get the error message " access denied or admin privelges missing".I searched few forums and realized that there is a default admin account with all privelges which is different from regular admin account( I have only 1 user account which is also admin account)I tried to follow the suggestion:Command: net user active/yes..but it returned the below message:[CODE]

I got locked out and followed the directions to enable to default administrator,,When I went to change passwords I did not change the magnify.exe back to the cmd.exe. Now I can't I have to be a trusted installer. There are also three of them. One is in the x86 folder, one int he Sys/WOW64, and another in amd64_microsoft-widows-magnify, this one and the first I mentioned have the same log group of numbers and lettrs following it.
It's making things even more difficult to do cause I can't open a comand prompt at all without rebooting. Is there anyone out there who can tell me how to identify which is the correct magnify.exe to change back to cmd.exe. I do have one that is oldmagnify.ext. Should it be that one.
And then one more problem. Now I am not the adminstrator so I need a "trusted installer" to make the change. My default administrator can't do it either because I created a profile for my network to use the same one on my Vista to share files in case I'm ever locked out again. I think by doing that the system automatically took full level admin rights away from my default admin!

I am using Windows 7 Pro 64x and apparently the default user account (Owner) that I use is not working correctly. Unless I have UAC set to Never Notify, I cannot open Control Panel or UAC again. I have created a second user account as Administrator and it works correctly.
I would like to know if there is any way to fix this problem short of a clean install of Windows. If not, is it possible to move all of my settings to the user account that works correctly and delete the one that does not.

I am the administrator of a new laptop running windows 7 and this laptop will not let me install a software package. It states that I need to have administrator privileges. I have tried to set compatibility mode and choose run as administrator. All are greyed out. I can right click on the installer and run as administrator is not an option either. I am the administrator of the domain also, which should not make any difference.
Why would one program not allow me to install it?

I have to reinstall my iTunes because it isn't working properly. The problem is that it will install partway, then it tells me it can't continue because I don't have administrator rights. I am the only user and the administrator on the computer. It says to contact the administrator--I have told myself the problem

I did a clean install of windows 7 pro using sysprep to move my user files and program data to other drives. This works well as I only have a 120gb SSD running Windows 7 and a partition for Win 8 Pro that I haven't installed yet.
I changed the default installation path from c: to s: in both the 32/64 bit registry and now some of the programs (photoviewer, media player, defender) won't run. I've fixed the programs that I could, pointing those back to c: as I did not move any of the programs that comes with windows.
