View 1 RepliesJust updgraded to Windows 7. I have a few password protected Excel sheets. I was really surprised to see the content of my sheets showing in the Windows 7 Explorer preview pane (before opening the dicument and being asked to enter the password). Any extra protection I need to put on the document to prevent this behavior?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI guess that almost says it all, except when I attempted to clarify this in an edit, I suspect what I am trying to do is a document merge with fields I would need to create on the document that has the labels, one file has all the data and the other has a layout of six labels.I have a custom label sheet (8.5" x 11" paper, 2 rows, 3 columns with margins) that I wish to use in a merge for name tags. The sheet is NOT printed, so I am not feeding it through a printer for the merge, I wish to do the merge on the computer and send the completed label merge file to a printer at a later date. Part of the reason for this is that I do not have a color printer here and the label picture itself uses color.Where it gets a little more complicated is that though each of the six labels per page is the same, it is a picture (when I double click any one of them the "Picture" ribbon comes up).

Basically, the title sums it all up. Everytime I load the windows 7 professional, the 3 programs loads itself up too. Both Word and Excel starts with an empty page. IE9 will try to connect to the internet. And I can't seem to disable them from autostart. I have looked in the Startup folder. It's empty. I've tried msconfig. I don't see anything related to IE9, or MSOffice in there.
View 6 Replies View RelatedThere is only one of my Excel 2003 files that almost disappears when I copy it over into my Windows 7 laptop and try to read it with either explorer or search for it, although it asks me to replace it everytime. It appears as if it doesn't exist. However when I open Excel 2010 and list only the .xls files, it finds it and I can read it. I have several other Excel 2003 files that are fine and since I usually open files by clicking on them in explorer, this one is particularly annoying, since I can't find it to click on it to open it. When I do open it in Excel 2010 it works normally and fine.
why only this file disappears from explorer and the search function only?
i'm unable to open excel from windows explorer. I double click/right click and open any excel file from windows explorer and excel opens up but no documents show. I minimize and maximize and still no excel document. I open up excel and go to file and open the file from there then it opens. Also, when in windows explorer, when you select the excel document, the windows preview shows "this file cannot be previewed because of an error in the microsoft excel previewer".

We have a few Excel reports that we are accessing on a server over an HTTPS link. We have used links to these reports for the past 5 years with no issue. However, now that we have upgraded to Win 7 our users are getting a Windows Security Log-In pop-up when they click the link to the Excel Report. Once they find the Pop-Up and just close it (without entering any credentials) the report opens, however many users are unaware of this step or do not notice the pop-up and are therefore unable to proceed. Can anyone shed some light on why this log-in prompt is coming up and how I can get rid of it. Even though it requests user-id and password, simply closing it allows you to proceed so it is not serving any purpose other than to frustrate our users.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've got a series of Excel 2003 spreadsheets with macros. They run just fine on a Windows XP machine. However, we recently moved them to a Windows 7 Pro machine. We still run them in Excel 2003, only now on a Windows 7 system. Problem is, they don't run right. No errors, but the one that is giving me grief needs to read from a csv text file. I don't thinki it is opening and/or reading the input fule. I don't understand why. Like I said, everything runs OK on WinXPSP3. I think I have all of the permissions set correctly. UAC is turned off and Elevated priveleges is turned off as well.

I bought a pc with Windows 7 that has worked fine with Word (office 2007). However, when I save a file with Excel 2007 and then call it up, the ribbon no longer works (I click on the various commands and ribbons don't pop up). Likewise, I cannot make cell entries or try operations like sorting. However, the program has not frozen since I can click on the various worksheets on the bottom. Is this an Excel or Windows problem and what is the solution.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know a lot of options have to be checked and unchecked to make windows xp secure so I'm wondering if it's the same with 7.
It would be used only to game, surf, or maybe do some photoshop type stuff. I have no use for file sharing or anything like that.
On my old computer I have Excel docs prepared using Windows XP and MS Office 2000. I have transferred all to a portable hard drive. My new computer has Windows 7. I've installed Office 2003 because I do not like the current version of Office. When I open the Word docs they are fine. However, when I open the Excel docs they appear as a .pdf not supported by Adobe. When I open them on my wife's computer which is Vista and MS Office 2000, they are fine. I really do not want to have to recreate the Excel docs using Office 2003. What, if anything, can I do to have the 2000 Excel docs transferred to 2003 Excel.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an important app running in Excel that takes 7 hours to complete. During that time the focus of the app is somehow diverted to something else in the Windows environment. View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded from 32-bit Windows Vista to 64-bit Windows 7 (did a clean OEM install). Now, my Microsoft Excel 2007 runs at a snails pace. Actually, I would be happy if it ran at a snails pace since it currently is running slower than that! It's almost to the point of being unusable. Opening an Excel document that took mere seconds with my 32-bit Vista now takes minutes with 64-bit Windows 7. Saving an Excel document in Vista took seconds and now easily takes 2-3 minutes with the new OS. Inserting a pivot table when my OS was 32-bit Vista was a snap, but now trying to do it working under 64-bit Windows 7 I can walk away and go eat dinner and come back and it still won't be done inserting the table.
Is there some known compatibility problem between MS Office/Excel 2007 and 64-bit Windows 7 OS? Ive searched Google but can't find anything related to the problem I am having.
I've tried restarting the PC. I reinstalled Office. I've tried launching Excel in compatibility mode for XP and Vista. All to no avail.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen i walk away from my Windows 7 PC, i'd like to lock the screen for good security and put it to sleep for good energy savings. Doesn't that make sense, at least in some situations? But if you lock it, you can't sleep it, and if you put it to sleep, then you can't lock it.
Probably most people lock it and allow it to go to sleep later after a timeout period. But we could all be greener if there were a way to do both sleep and lock at the same time. win7q has chosen the best answer to his/her question.Click here to view the answer that was selected.
