Just updgraded to Windows 7. I have a few password protected Excel sheets. I was really surprised to see the content of my sheets showing in the Windows 7 Explorer preview pane (before opening the dicument and being asked to enter the password). Any extra protection I need to put on the document to prevent this behavior?

I had previously had Foxit installed. I had to run a repair install of Adobe Reader (Control Panel>Programs and Features>Adobe Reader 9.2>Change>Repair
Then apply this registry fix and voila!
I would like to have Foxit and Adobe Reader installed, so not sure how to make Foxit the default reader but still maintain preview in Windows Explorer.
I'm looking for a way to enlarge the thumbnail preview in Explorer. A person is scanning in PDF documents in large amounts and then using the thumbnail preview wants to be able to rename them from the default scanner assigned name. The current thumbnail size isn't big enough to see enough detail to rename the file without opening the document.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI just noticed today that my video and music files in explorer no longer show the album art or the video instead of the standard Icon when viewing large icons in folders. I think it is because I recently installed and uninstalled winamp. (thats the only thing I can think of) I cant do system restore because I had it disabled. I've tried reseting the search index, reseting folder options, going under performance and checking the settings there, nothing has changed. I really dont want to have to wipe and reinstall...
Here is a picture if you dont get what Im saying, as you can see in the folders it still displays the album art of the files but the actual mp3 files dont show it. The album art works fine in WMP.

Ever since running some registery cleaner I have been having issues with my windows explorer.I never should have touched my registery with untrusted software in the first place.I know most of you will probably suggest me to reinstall but I would prefer to just put the registry entries back in place as I have a lot installed on my computer.Whenever I try to start up "Computer" or control panel it shows the explorer but the contents are blank.I already scanned my disk for issues (sfc /scannow) but nothing was found.

One 500GB drive partitioned to an OS drive and a data drive.I run AVAST (paid version), Malware Bytes and unhackme and no viruses/trojans/rootkits discovered - I'm a stickler for security.I noticed in Windows Exploring that both drives were getting low on available storage (both <8GB). I copied 30GB from the data drive and 10GB from the OS drive to an external drive and deleted the files from the notebook, using shift key/delete. I cleared the Recycle Bin; ran Disk error check (Scandisk) and defragged both drives.Folder Size & Treesize Pro both tell me I have 180GB & 100Gb respectively free; versus Windows Explorer 5Gb & 6GB.My available storage only increased by 800MB and 600MB respectively after deleting the files, so for a file removal of 40Gig I get back 1.4gig of HD space.I've checked pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys [8GB between them] and they haven't altered recently.Ran CCleaner's Registry cleaner - no difference.I rang the OS support for my Notebook Manufacturer and spent 1/2 a day trying different things including HD tune. They couldn't figure it out but suggested Utorrent may be grabbing HDD space so I uninstalled it.... no difference.

They don't show in foobar2000 (a music player) either, unless I switch the font to Meiryo (a Chinese font). They used to show up with no problem.
They still show up in Chrome.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI created a second user last night and found a few folders in My Documents for the 2nd user had come from a Users/Public folder, when they were made in My Documents of the first user. So I went into the Users folder and looked into my first user and was able to access any folder despite being in the 2nd user. In Win XP I'd be blocked from accessing that folder because the user is password protected; in Win 7 that seems to be a security flaw since I'm not blocked.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently got a virus and had a stick of ram go bad at the same time (bad luck). I decided to scrap the 4 gigs of ram and ordered 8 gigs. This meant I needed to move from 32 bit Win 7 to 64 bit. I wiped the partition to completely remove the virus and installed 64 bit. I realized that Windows Explorer (under "Computer") was showing the correct size of the drives and used space but if you "open" the drive to see the files and folders there is nothing there: "This folder is empty". I have a Ubuntu Live CD and can see the files there, so I am sure the data is still there but I can't get to it in windows 7. I installed and reinstalled drivers for my motherboard but no luck. I had Windows 7 check on updating the drivers for the hard drives and it said it was using the best driver available.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI do a great deal of video editing and special effects on my Windows 7 (home premium, 64bit) laptop. Many of the stock footage clips I use are .mov files and a lot of the sound files I use are .wav and .mp3. Unfortunately, these files do not preview (They don't play) in the preview pane in Windows Explorer. .mp4 videos do preview, but I have not tested anything else. All of the above mention files play just fine in the standalone WMP. Do I need to download extra codecs to make them work in the preview pane?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI guess that almost says it all, except when I attempted to clarify this in an edit, I suspect what I am trying to do is a document merge with fields I would need to create on the document that has the labels, one file has all the data and the other has a layout of six labels.I have a custom label sheet (8.5" x 11" paper, 2 rows, 3 columns with margins) that I wish to use in a merge for name tags. The sheet is NOT printed, so I am not feeding it through a printer for the merge, I wish to do the merge on the computer and send the completed label merge file to a printer at a later date. Part of the reason for this is that I do not have a color printer here and the label picture itself uses color.Where it gets a little more complicated is that though each of the six labels per page is the same, it is a picture (when I double click any one of them the "Picture" ribbon comes up).

Now when i boot from windows 7 it shows 64 bit and in vista it shows 32 bit. The system asks before booting which one to choose. It's today only that I have installed but I am not facing any problem as such except that i need a product key within 30 days. Should i leave as it is or uninstall vista somehow. Would i be able to reboot my system using the 32 bit vista CD?

View 2 Replies View RelatedNew dell n7110/win7sp1x64.At startup on new machine from dell, process explorer (procexp64.exe) lists 81 processes running (seems like way too many - compared to xp with maybe 25 at startup). But which processes I can turn off is a question for another day. OK, read carefully, at least 15 processes in PE show " Path: error opening process". PID, CPU, Private Bytes, and working set columns are shown for these "problem" processes, but nothing after that, ie, description, company name etc. For all other listed running processes (with known paths), all info is shown in all columns. The problem processes include some important ones, services, crss, ism, wininit, winlogon, that must to be working for the computer to work, and everything seems to be working properly, and no cpu spikes or other weird stuff is happening. Right clicking properties on these problem processes, properties window pops up as normal, but shows "version: n/a, build: n/a, path: error opening process, no command line, no current directory, autostart location: n/a, Parent: non existent process (708), user: access denied. Again, this info can not be correct since the computer is working. And then, after a few minutes, another window pops up and says PE has stopped working, and closes the program. Now, if this was the whole story, I would go to sysinternals with this, but read on... Task manager running simultaneously with PE lists 83 processes running, more processes than PE, and also ~5 different processes than PE, and PE lists some processes running that TM doesn't list. So PE and TM show different running processes at the same time. How can that be? For the processes that PE shows "error opening", e.g., crss, etc., when I click properties in TM for the same process, sometimes I get the usual/normal pop-up window listing the path, and all the other data as normal, suggesting the process is working properly. But sometimes when I click properties in TM for the processes that PE shows "error opening", I get no pop-up at all, nothing for that process. So, IMO, it's not just a PE glitch, something is actually wrong here. This is a new machine, with PE the only 3rd party installation. I have installed several dell driver updates, but this problem occurred before I installed them. Also, remember PE and TM simultaneously list some different running processes and TM also fails to show paths, etc.

After having switched back and forth some other settings I could not get back this "preview". Open Tabs for e.g. the Internet Explorer are just shown as a line and not as a small mini window of the real web page.
