I have this problem with most of my FLAC albums where the tags will show just fine in my media player (foobar2000), but they won't show up in Windows Explorer.

So I have a massive Flac library. And I have WMP tag plus plugin installed. All my music files are on their own seperate hard drive (F:). Originally i had just put the seperate folders for each artist directly on the root of F.
(F:artist folder)
This worked for a while and then somewhere down the line I had to make another folder on the root of F: and then replace all artist folders inside that. (to clean up some sharing issues I believe)
(F:Musicartist folder).
This also worked fine for tags. for a while. I had shared the root drive originally, and also shared the F:Music folder as well. after i had created the F:Music folder and shared that, I unshared the actual drive. Now, this was STILL fine for a couple of days. I had a fully shared library with songs correctly tagged with album art. But today I turned on WMP and went to wirelessly play music over my home network to my xbox. (using the xbox menus to access the music on my computer.)
While music was playing through my xbox I sat at the computer to look at my library only to see if I could "play to" the xbox from my computers WMP. As it turns out I couldn't but I also couldn't "play to" my laptop... which has always been possible because I do it all the time. (it was on and available.) Just I noticed this, my artist library on my computer started to collapse into an "unknown artist" folder.
I literally watched this happen. all my album art just fell off the screen and now not one song has any tags. everything is under "unknown artist" - "unknown album". I've been fiddling with my computer for an hour now i cant see the problem. I have noticed that the .flac files on my computer now have a different icon representing them... and I don't know why that is either. Why no more tags? Its literally a never ending battle to be able to play my music with WMP, but its almost a must to be able to play everything wirelessly throughout my house. I don't understand why microsoft cant get this to work.
I am wondering if I am missing something here, I have to my knowledge turned off all media streaming capability but yet when I am listening to tunes in the office I have noticed that there is an icon for my office pc's media player on the network. I have turned off the functionality in advanced sharing and it is not turned on in wmp. Is this just the way it is now? Seems like this should be able to be overridden, virtually every guest in my house has access to my htpc and I don't necessarily want them to have access to my office pc's media.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have two Dell laptops, both running Windows 7. I have both set up on a HomeGroup and have enabled media sharing on both as well. Network discovery is turned on for both, file and printer sharing is on, password protected sharing is off. Under WMP, I have Media Streaming on. None of my folders are hidden.
For this discussion, things with Laptop A are fine, but Laptop B is causing me some problems. I have two main issues and fear they may be related: 1. From Laptop B, I can see Laptop A in the homegroup and I can see it in WMP. I can access all of Laptop A's files and play them back with no problem. However, from Laptop A, I can see Laptop B in the Homegroup, but I can not see it in WMP. I can navigate to certain folders in explorer and see the files, but I can not play them, even though I have all sharing functions that I can think of turned on. (I do have McAfee running, but disabled the firewall in case that was the problem. It didn't help)
Also, I have a DLNA compliant device on the network that I can stream music to using the "play to" feature in WMP. From Laptop A I can play to the network speaker just fine. I can not from Laptop B. I should add that I can "see" the device in WMP from Laptop B, but when I queue a track to play, it just hangs up as if it can't communicate any further with the networked speaker.
I have started using the RC after having used the offiial beta for only a week (it kept giving me BSODs and I was too lazy to figure out why).
With this build I have noticed one thing, and as I have looked through this forum for a while to see if anyone else had it, and didn't find anything, I will assume it is not a 'feature'. While playing xvid media (television shows from the US) with windows media player, I notice at random times that the image freezes (the sound continues). After a while (between 10 to 30 seconds) the image unfreezes and starts playing catchup. This can happen while I'm doing something else, but also when I'm not doing a thing, and only WMP is opened. I first thought it might be codec issue, so I installed a Windows 7 codec pack (though I usually hate these things). Unfortunately it hasn't solved my problem.
I've also noticed that it takes explorer about 20 to 50 seconds to start up. I don't know if that's strange, but it seems like a long time to me. Even if it's already open on a different folder, and I open another instance, it takes this long. Only if I browse within the already opened window does it not seem to lag.
The only thing I can think of is that it might have something to do with my virus scanner? I have ACG installed. I also have daemon tools running, even though it says that there might be compatibility issues.
I an unable to open windows media player or internet explorer, when I open internet explorer it looks like its about to load up my homepage but I get nothing but a blank page. Also when I tried to open skydrive that wouldn't work either. I tried to open windows media player today and that wouldn't open either. I can use firefox that works ok and vlc player but anything to do with windows will not work. The only thing new i put on my laptop was zune for my new Samsung Omina 7 phone. However internet explorer was not working prior to this.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm running Win 7 x64 with 32bit WMP12. I have FLAC showing with metadata and can play files locally. I have a Naim NDX Media Streamer and can not get FLAC to play through it via WMP - other files will. I understand that this may be connected to x64 not being compatible, so I have the x32 version running via a short cut to my desktop.WMP shows my streamer but when I try to play a file it just constantly looks for the streamer and never finds it. Any ideas where I might be going wrong?
PS: It works perfectly well with JRiver / My River or n Stream via my ipad. That with FLAC or .wav etc. So it appears to be related directly to WMP.
I am sure that there is an answer to this, but am lost... I have about 28,000 songs which are stored on my Windows 7 Enterprise Media Centre PC. All the ID3 tags are correct (I think), but I cant get the music library working properly on the PC or Extender.The problem I have is with my Various Artists albums... the ID3 tags show song title, artist and album artist. on a various artist album the Album Artist field is set to "Various Artists". I am using an Xbox360 media extended in my living room and whilst its slow, thats a seperate issue, there are some unexpected results when searching for songs...If you search for an artist, if they have produced albums where they are the only artist, then they are listed - the ID3 tags on their personal albums have the Album Artist field set as the Artist field and all works. However when listing by Artist, there is an artist listed called "Various Artists" and every song (12,000+) which is on a compilation album is listed as being by "Various Artists" as MC seems to get the artist name from the "Album Artist" field rather than from the "Artist" field.
I thought I'd found a workaround by changing the Album Artist field to be the same as the Artist - indeed this did work, but the unexpected side effect is that when you search by album, because each track on an album shows a different Album Artist set in the ID3 tag, it lists the album seperately for every song... so you may have "Now Thats What I Call Music xx" listed 20 times - once per song!Is there any way to get media centre to catalogue songs using the "Artist" field rather than the "Album Artist" field - but also to take into account that even though songs are by different artists, should the Album Artist all be the same - then to treat as a single album??I have only just started researching this and have read a bit about Media Centre using the catalogue created by WMP - but to be honest I have never used WMP and wouldnt know where to start.
I wanted to ask if it is possible to set Windows media player to open as the default player inside media center.The reason that I ask this is that I find media center sound is very low quality. And I have Foobar (portable) as the default program for .mp3.Usually the icons on .mp4, .avi, .mp3 files get updated with the icons of the assigned media players.But on this PC it's not working. They're still the same icons as if WMP was the default player.Does it have to do with the Standard user account? (Because on other PCs I run from an Admin account and I don't have such problems.)

It always hogs up massive amount of CPU power and goes into (Not Responding) for a min while updating.I only add media files to the Windows Explorer Library so I can get indexed searches. I don't even use WMP to view files or anything. Just to burn some music CDs sometimes.I've tried deleting the files from the WMP library but the next time I open it up, it scans and updates all my files again! Is there a way to completely purge the WMP library and make it not update ever? View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm in grave problem here. I just installed windows 7 x64 a few days back. And initially I installed the 32bit version of k-lite codec pack for my windows media player. The media center worked fine then. It was loading my ffdshow and ac3filter along as I checked it.But then yesterday I noticed that the same pop-up od recommended/express install of WMP came again. Initially I thought that it must be some bug or something, but then when my MKV and AVI files didn't work in WMC, I realized that somehow WMP x64 got triggered, and now it is using the x64 bit of WMP in WMC. And I just wanna revert back to 32-bit WMP in WMC.

This DVD player is an external player and I have no problem with playback on my Dual boot with Vista Home Premium.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't get eithe WMP or MC to play a DVD. I've set the region code. WMP acts like it will play, but then just goes blank, and MC says it cannot play the DVD. These are original discs, not burned copies. I have a custom built system, with 2 graphics cards (GTX 260 and a GT 220) 6 GB of RAM, and an i7 processor. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Receiver is an HDTV for 1st TV only, so taken from 2nd TV connection, not HDTV. Under XP, using Sagent's software, set to Antenna, channel 21, receive TV fine. However, under Windows 7 Media Center, set to same, receive a "No Signal" Error.However, if changing channel either one up or one down and back to 21, TV display comes on for about 10 seconds after which it goes back to no signal.Have updated the driver for this card to the latest Windows 7 driver, using Driver Agent.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI am having difficulties with my networkshare on Homegroup. With cable connected to my router/modem I have a LaCie2Big NAS and a WDTVLive mediaplayer. Since a few days I no longer see the two devices other than as mediaplayer devices. They are no longer displayed as other devices or computers which I can browse using explorer. Probably an easy fix, but I can't figure out what happened. I have tried several reboots, no change. I am using the ethernet cable on my desktop and wifi on my laptop. Both display the devices the same (useless) way.

I recently got a virus and had a stick of ram go bad at the same time (bad luck). I decided to scrap the 4 gigs of ram and ordered 8 gigs. This meant I needed to move from 32 bit Win 7 to 64 bit. I wiped the partition to completely remove the virus and installed 64 bit. I realized that Windows Explorer (under "Computer") was showing the correct size of the drives and used space but if you "open" the drive to see the files and folders there is nothing there: "This folder is empty". I have a Ubuntu Live CD and can see the files there, so I am sure the data is still there but I can't get to it in windows 7. I installed and reinstalled drivers for my motherboard but no luck. I had Windows 7 check on updating the drivers for the hard drives and it said it was using the best driver available.

One 500GB drive partitioned to an OS drive and a data drive.I run AVAST (paid version), Malware Bytes and unhackme and no viruses/trojans/rootkits discovered - I'm a stickler for security.I noticed in Windows Exploring that both drives were getting low on available storage (both <8GB). I copied 30GB from the data drive and 10GB from the OS drive to an external drive and deleted the files from the notebook, using shift key/delete. I cleared the Recycle Bin; ran Disk error check (Scandisk) and defragged both drives.Folder Size & Treesize Pro both tell me I have 180GB & 100Gb respectively free; versus Windows Explorer 5Gb & 6GB.My available storage only increased by 800MB and 600MB respectively after deleting the files, so for a file removal of 40Gig I get back 1.4gig of HD space.I've checked pagefile.sys and hiberfil.sys [8GB between them] and they haven't altered recently.Ran CCleaner's Registry cleaner - no difference.I rang the OS support for my Notebook Manufacturer and spent 1/2 a day trying different things including HD tune. They couldn't figure it out but suggested Utorrent may be grabbing HDD space so I uninstalled it.... no difference.

They don't show in foobar2000 (a music player) either, unless I switch the font to Meiryo (a Chinese font). They used to show up with no problem.
They still show up in Chrome.

Norton frequently gives me an error message saying that 'Windows Media Player Network Sharing Device has high CPU usage' or something to that effect. According to my oppinion WMP11 was quite better in handling.
Now in WMP11 we have 2 main views, as the Library mode and as the player mode, and some skin modes.
Well in player mode everything was fine, I had some reactions for it but I finaly managed to settle down with it.
After some days of usage WMP became "Ghostly". It lost its background image, and it lost it blue faded corners.
Now my WMP looks like an unseccesefull plastic surgery.
Watch by yourselves.
I thought that it would dissapear, but later I found out that it is permanent.
Anyone faced this? Anyone knows how to face this?
There also was an option to RIP CD when I had no CD in my drive. But after some days it was gone.
I hope they make WMP better in handling.
