How To Link Home Computers Together Using Domain
Sep 15, 2011
I am wondering how to connect my laptops together using a domain I think because the OS's are Windows Vista in my school which connect to a domain and share everything, I was wondering how to do this with my 3 laptops, please make sure it is free and nothing to-do with Windows Server etc, 2 Laptops and Win 7 Home Premium other one is Vista Basic and all NTFS and x86.

I have a windows 7 pro that is connected to the domain, but it has a lot of issues, it can discover only about 5 machines from about 50.Also no one in the network can access in through LAN although it can join the domain with no problem. I tried lot of things like:
- Rejoin it to the domain.
- Rename PC name before rejoin it to the domain.
- Remove all profiles and create new ones.
- Remove DNS entry and AD computer entry regarding this machine.
I think it is a system problem not a network problem, but i don't wanna reinstall the system as i have a lot of licenses for it and it is hard to reset these licenses again.

My computer was working fine yesterday, it showed about 6 Networks and I was able to connect to my own network, D-Link fine. Now after playing a game via game booster I tried to acces Google Chrome and it says "this webpage is not available" I cant acces Skype or steam or anything that requires internet. I thought I had simply disconnected my self but when I went to check, it shows no networks. I thought this was my connection but then tried other devices "I-Mac, I-Pad, Windows XP Desktop and a DSI" and they all seem to find many networks and connect to D-Link fine.

I think windows 7 is a total waste of time and money.More problems in windows 7 than even vista. windows 7 home premium can't be joined to a domain ,windows 7 professional can't keep domain profiles , etc.
Microsoft must backup before is too late

I have a laptop with Windows7 from work, registered to the domain from my company. At home I have a desktop with XP with shares on it. When I bring the laptop home and try to access the shares on the desktop, I am asked to enter user and pass (ok, I use the admin account on that desktop), the Seven shows me the list of shares. Very good, you might say. That is so until you try to enter the shares when it pops a "network error": "Windows cannot acess \xp-desktopshare1 You do no have permission to access \xp-desktopshare1. Contact your network administrator to request access." What access?! These are full shares for the admin account used to authenticate.
I have a third machine with Seven on it, this time a personal machine, not registered to a domain, and with this one I can properly access the shares mentioned earlier. Also, my laptop from work, can properly access shares from my work place and shares on the personal laptop with Seven on it. So this issue happens only when trying to access shares on XP at home.

I have a Windows 7 PC that's joined to a domain. The network location says "Domain network" and cannot be changed. According to Microsoft, you must set your location to "Home" in order to be able to join a computer to an already existing HomeGroup. My advanced sharing settings for both Home and Domain (domain being the current profile) show all the sharing and discovery settings enabled. HomeGroup Listener and HomeGroup Provider services are started. My Windows Firewall is enabled. I can connect to \computername of my HomeGroup computers. However, I cannot join the HomeGroup. It says "There is currently no homegroup on your network." [URL]I verified the group policy settings do not prohibit me from changing my network location from Domain to Home so that I may join a HomeGroup. However, I still cannot click on "Domain network" in order to change it to Home. How can I join this computer to the HomeGroup?

I've got a home network with Homegroup working fine across three /four machines & printers.I've just installed a small test server and loaded Windows Small Business Server 2011 (SBS2011)I've tried connecting to this server from two Win 7 pc's and having no joy. Also, cannot even see the server on my network from the pc's.If I try to use the sbs2011 connector software (as recommended) I enter url... and get a software download from the server. This is supposed to make it easy to link the pc to the server and run backups and so-on.However it fails and gives me an "unexpected error" after trying to log me in (I think).I cannot see the server at all from the pcs other than by using remote desktop protocol - network search and network sharing both fail to see it.I've removed my pcs from the homegroup in case that is the conflict but still no joy.BTW, the server CAN see the other pcs on the network when it performs a network search.

My home network has 4 computers(including mine) running windows 7, and all of them are connected to the same router/access point for internet connection. When I created a homegroup, and went to add the other computers, they created another homegroup and the other 3 computers are now in the same homegroup. However on my side, it detects no computers. I clicked "leave homegroup", and it detected no homegroup on the network. The other 3 computers are on the same homegroup and are able to share files and printers. I cannot join the homegroup when i click homegroup in windows explorer it only says there is no homegroup on the network and asks me to create a homegroup.

Any prevailing issues with the latest round of windows updates? Two weeks ago our computer running Windows 7 Premium downloaded an update and received the dreaded black screen on startup. It will now no longer run windows, offer a boot menu or anything. Today our older unit running Vista Home Premium did an auto update and we now have the same issue. Sadly with the O/S and with Microsoft "stellar" customer service. I am running Norton with all the current updates and i am sure it is not a virus.

how do I configure the printer through the router so that the other computers can use the printer's scanning capabilities.
I have 6 wireless computers on a home network. My wireless router has an input to accommodate a printer. Currently the printer is connected to computer 1 via USB and all the computers can print from the printer as long as computer #1 is turned on.
My question is how do I configure the printer through the router so that the other computers can use the printer without #1 computer being turned on?

All three of my computers at home (all on windows 7 ultimate 64bit) are connecting to the same router with same SSID, but they end up having duplicate names such as NetworkName 1, NetworkName 2, NetworkName 3. This is preventing me from having them share via homegroup. I made sure the computer names are all different and all connect to same workgroup name. Is this a router setting problem? i'm using a cisco-linksys wrt-160n flashed with DD-WRT. i was checking the settings and ran across a new term, vlan. could it be they are all connected to separate virtual networks? i tried to disable vlan, however, that just disconnected all the computers to the internet.

I recently did a complete reinstall of Windows 7 64-bit on my desktop computer and now I can't access shared drives on my wife's Windows 7 computer (home ethernet network). I was able to install and use the shared printer attached to her computer. I am able to add her shared drives to my Windows Explorer as mapped network drives, but if I click on one an error box pops up: "J: is not accessible. Access is denied."
Her computer and all of her drives show up in the Network section of Windows Explorer, but if I click on one, I get a Network Error popup saying "Windows cannot access \Wife-pcc. You do not have permission to access \Wife-pcc. Contact your network administrator to request access." I am able to control her desktop and transfer files using UltraVNC...that's actually the only way I can transfer files at the moment.
If, from her computer, I right-click her C: drive, select Properties -> Sharing, it shows the drive is shared. If I click the Advanced Sharing button, and then click the Permissions button, under "Group or user names" it shows "Everyone", and shows the permissions as Full Control, Change, and Read. What else do I need to do so that I can access her drives as Mapped Network Drives? I was able to do so prior to reinstalling Windows 7 on my computer, and nothing has changed on her computer.

Unable to see home network computers in Windows Explorer Network screen.
I have a home network with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. The desktop I use as a "file server" in that all work done on the laptops is stored to the desktop. The desktop computer name is HAL. One laptop is fine and sees the network. The other just stopped seeing it; rebooted the laptop; rebooted HAL; did a number of refreshes without any luck. I opened EXCEL and found a worksheet that was listed that I knew was saved on HAL. Was able to open the file and when I tried the SAVE AS I could navigate through all of HAL just as normal. Went to Windows Explorer and still no HAL listed as a COMPUTER on the NETWORK. I have a internet connection so I know I am making it to the router at least. And when I check NETWORK AND SHARING CENTER it shows an active home network. The laptop is running Windows 7 Home Premium Service Pack 1 Build 7601.
