View 1 Replies View Relatedmy problem lies in the installation of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on my system. I custom built this computer and after using the installation disk that contains both 32 and 64 bit. On my brother's computer we used this disk and it automatically installed to 64 bit without making us choose. However on my machine, it automatically goes to 32 bit even though all the parts are 64 bit compatible. how can I install 64 bit windows 7 to utilize all 8 gb of memory. I have tried reinstalling i using the disk multiple times, each time giving me the 32 bit system.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to install Windows 7 on a Compaq Presario 2100 laptop with 1GB of RAM and known good HDD. I ran memtest 86 for 12 hours with no errors. The BIOS sucks and has no options for ACPI, power management, or even serial/parallel port addressing, only boot order, system info, and password. The only device option in the BIOS besides video memory (tried every setting there) is legacy usb support (tried that too). I've been googling for 2 hours about this and found the whole F5 and F7 thing for XP, but I'm not sure if there's a similar option in 7 to only use Standard HAL. There's no Press F6 prompt in 7 install to press F7 at.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a two year old Dell PC with Windows 7. I got a virus in my computer that by phone and computer takeover Norton located in my MBR. When they cleaned it my computer will no longer boot up. Norton worked with me for three days on the problem but we were unable to fix the computer. I followed other web sites and repaired my MBR but it still will not boot up. I tried System Repair, Check point, Image, and Dell system restore and all failed. I have tried to use the Windows install CD and all I get is a black screen with a flashing cursor and then after 3 minutes the compute attempts to boot again and fails. I tried everything to try and wipe the drive from C prompt and it will not let me. I have very weak computer skills but I can follow directions and I have wiped a previous computer I owned. (I confirmed that my CD drive is working) I also should mention I have a second hard drive on my computer that I backed everything up to.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased an HP latop right when Windows 7 was coming out and the HP laptop had Windows Vista when I bought it but I was sent a free upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate by HP during the time when they were selling laptops with Vista and sending free upgrades. So what I want to know since the fan stopped working some time ago, (cooling it with a small fan from Walmart sending air around and inside it somewhat) on the HP laptop I purchased and recieved the free upgrade. If I return the HP laptop to factory settings (did a complete backup when purchased) and put Vista back on it, can I use my Windows 7 Ultimate disk in a newly purchased laptop since it will still only be on one laptop since I am returning the old one to Vista? And do I have to uninstall Windows 7 Ultimate with the Upgrade disk so it knows it's no longer on that computer. In other words are they linked by some type of serial number on my HP laptop that only allows me to install the Windows Upgrade disk on that specific machine?

would that be considered 2 installations and thus not work?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently purchased a small usb fax modem from ebay. It is a simple device, with a usb connector on one end, and a receptacle for a telephone line on the other end. So obviously, this is not difficult to "install". But my problem concerns getting the correct drivers installed. The unit came with a mini-cd-rom which has some drivers. But there are no instructions. It also contained a "Read Me" file, but unfortunately this was i Chinese and I couldn't read it.

View 4 Replies View RelatedShould I install Windows 7? If so, which build, and does it have any bootable ISOs? I would preferably like to install something that I won't have to replace with a newer build later, but I see that probably won't be possible unless we get an official update on the RTM soon.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI purchased a 3TB hard drive yesterday and installed it without a hitch. I backed up all my files to it and proceeded to fill it up. I left my computer on overnight downloading a large (64GB) file. This morning i found it was frozen on the windows logon screen, (which was weird because that means it restarted at some point). After a restart, The computer Froze at post. I unplugged the 3TB hard drive and can boot into bios no problem, but cannot load windows from the other hard drive, it freezes at windows startup logo. So i unplugged ALL hard drives, hit the CMOS reset button and took the battery out, put the battery back in and tried to load my windows 7 disc WITHOUT any hard drives plugged in, It freezes during the 'Loading Windows' process.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new PC from NewEgg . Windows 7 installed fine and booted up great the first time but when I go to reboot, it hangs on the windows logo and than reboots itself.
I have tried reinstalling about 10+ times. I have tried 64bit and 32 bit versions and I have tried 2 different HDDs. The problem isn't the disc because it installs great onto one of my HDDs on my other computer but when I switch that HDD to my new one, it freezes.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI started with a 250GB Sata HD running XP,and installed Windows 7 on it by booting from the CD.The drive had a first partition C: @ 40GB and a second, New Volume H: @ 200GB.I installed to the C: partition and noticed the option to install to H: partition,so figured all was good,as C: is where I wanted it-leaving H: for programs, documents, etc. Well, the install went smoothly, and everything seems to be working fine, with the exception of not seeing New Volume H: in My Computer. It is,however, found in Disk Management. I now have the following in My Computer
Floppy Disk Drive (A
Local Disk (C
DVD RW Drive (D CD ROM
Is there a way to make H: appear in My Computer so I can access the files? There currently appears to be no way to open it in Disk Manager.
