Renaming Win 7 Computer Member Of AD Domain Creates New Computer Object
I just discovered some change in Win7 vs WinXP when it comes to changing the computer name for a computer member of an AD domain. Here is what I did to reproduce the problem on a Win7 computer: 1) Ensure that the computer object is located in some OU (not computers container). 2) Logon using a domain admin account. 3) In System Properties, change computer name to something else and at the same time change the domain name from FQDN to NetBIOS name of your domain. 4) Reboot the computer 5) Observe in Active Directory Users and Computers that you now have the old computer object in the original location (some OU) and a new computer object in the computers container. The above does not happen in Windows XP, so I'm a bit puzzled.Usually this is not a problem since changing the domain name from FQDN to NetBIOS (for the same domain) is not something you really do.Bug?

Networking Vista Ultimate Computer With Win 7 Computer
I utilize Vista ultimate on my primary desktop computer. For office work, I utilize a laptop. The laptop is currently running the RC candidate of Windows 7. No matter what I try, I am unable to network these 2 computers. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am primarily concerned with synchronizing data folders between the 2 computers.

Remote Access Through VPN XP Computer To Win 7 Computer
we have recently updated some of our computers to Windows 7 at the office. When I use a laptop with XP I am unable to log into a computer with Win 7 via the remote desk top via the VPN. An error comes up that says "error in communicating with Server!"Is there some kind of security setting on Win 7 or can you not log in to a Win 7 computer with one that is running XP?Thanks!

Problems Networking With Win 7 Computer To A Vista Computer
I have a new Windows 7 Lenovo computer linked to a wireless Gateway that connects my home network. The home network includes a Sony, Vista computer. I can access the Lenovo from the Sony and print on printers connected to the Lenovo. The Lenovo sees the Sony (appears in the network map) but can not open shared files on the Sony. I have done just about everything including shutting off the Norton and Windows firewalls but can not get connected. I have gone to a number of web strings on the topic and tried many things but nothings works.

Limited Communication Between Win 7 And Win 2000 Computer
When I'm on my Windows 7 computer, logged in as administrator, I can map to and read/write to the other computer. When I switch to a user on the Windows 7 computer and try to Map Network Drive, I'm asked to Enter Network Password. I don't have one. When I try to see my Windows 7 computer (where I'm logged in either as adminstrator or user), I am told on my other computer in My Network Places, "Login Failure: user account retriction." I have no need for security between my computers (which are side by side). How do I take eliminate all these passwords, etc.?

Can I Install My HP Upgrade On A Non-HP Computer?
I bought a HP desktop a few months ago. I thought it was outside the 'free upgrade' period,so I bought the Home Premium upgrade when it was offered for half price. I installed the purchased upgrade when it was released, but I've just found out I qualify for the free upgrade from HP. So -- a friend is looking for Windows 7. Here are 2 scenarios I'm considering: 1) Can I install the HP upgrade on his computer? Or is there something that restricts the use of the HP upgrade only for use on HP systems? or 2) Can I use the HP upgrade product key on my system and use the key from my purchased Windows 7 Upgrade on my friend's computer? If I change keys, does it automatically make the old key available again for installation on a new system?

Can I Install RC As The Only OS On A Clean Computer ?
Can I install windows 7 RC and use as my only OS on a machine that has no other OS on it presently? The machine I have sitting here has a 2.4ghz p4 and 1gig ram so I am pretty sure it will suffice for testing. I am not sure what the "live environment" mentioned in the EULA means, any ansewers would be appreciated. Does that mean I cannot use it as an everyday system until I purchase the final product? Would it be better to run in a VM instead? Even tho I know not too much about VM's and deployment, I understand that it's sometimes better to use a VM so changes can be reverted. Lastly, should I install any video card, the drives I intend to use, NIC etc before I install on the machine? I have read on other posts (XP) that the way the WPA works and that changing too many hardware items after an install of the XP OS may cause a re-activation in the future. I also read that the NIC counts as 3 yes votes if it has not been changed so would it be better to put a PCI NIC card in instead of the onboard NIC?

Should I Install Win7 On A New Computer ?
Should I install Windows 7? If so, which build, and does it have any bootable ISOs? I would preferably like to install something that I won't have to replace with a newer build later, but I see that probably won't be possible unless we get an official update on the RTM soon.

Migrating A Win7 Install From One Computer To Another
Has memory errors, MoBo needs replacing (one memory slot is bad and I'm stuck at 2gb,) screen is broken with Vertical lines ($80 to fix) and case is cracked. I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a new laptop. However, I have w7 installed and activated. I do not want to lose another activation with the same key, and assume that I'm not going to Phone in the Activation. How would one go about migrating a Windows 7 Install from Laptop A to Laptop B without losing the licensing? I have an External-USB adapter for laptop Hard Drives, so ghosting is a possibility, but frankly, I've never approached something like this before.

Computer Shuts Down Before Install Starts
So I have tried installing both 32 and 64 bit DVDs to my Desktop with different DVD drives and copies. Both DVDs are good copies as they both loaded and install onto my other computer. Other than one time I was able to get my computer to go through 64bit Install untill it noticed a drive order problem. I fixed this order and now I am facing my earlier problem. I stick the DVD in and press a button and on what seems like a random cycle, my computer either shuts off the second I press the button or at the second "Windows is Loading Files" screen. I will post up my detailed specs, but it is a Core II Duo CPU and a biostar MB My question is that this is a build computer and I don't know really what I am doing as this MB is convoluted in it's menu and I do not know the installation of RAM and the Jumper locations for my IDE drives, which I feel is likely my problem.

To Install Upgrade Do I Have To Have XP Installed On Computer ?
I am thinking about taking advantage of the special pricing on Windows 7 Upgrade. To install the Upgrade do I have to have Windows XP actually installed on my computer? I have a Windows XP CD and license but do not have it actually installed anywhere. I am running Windows 7 RC on my Mac in Boot Camp and that is where I would want to install the final version but would sure hate to have to go to all the trouble of installing XP first. Another question - will we be able to upgrade RC to the final version or will we have to do a clean install?

XP And 7 Install Issues (Won't Boot Into Win 7 Install)
I have XP SP2 installed. I used EASEUS Partition Master to split my drive in half, one half being XP, the other half being a future install of Windows 7. Put DVD in, selected the blank partition, began the install. Once it gets to the first reboot, it will reboot and go straight into XP. There is no option to choose Windows 7. The XP boot.ini has only one entry for XP. Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm thinking I need to add an entry for Windows 7, but have no clue what to put and I'm also guessing I'd have to add a few special tags because it's booting into the setup process of Win 7.
