Aug 26, 2010my Acer Aspire One which has Windows 7 Starter, will not read my USB flash drive. I have even bought a new flash drive to see if it would recognize the new one. It hasn't. How can I get my computer to recognize the flash drive?

Mar 25, 2012have a HP Pavillion DV6-2010sa laptop thats running windows 7.
No picture display when i turn on the laptop, just caps lock and num lock LEDs flash twice. I looked this up and it means corrupt BIOS....
Now in order to fix this i need to flash my BIOS using a USB thumb drive ( pressing and holding Windows Key + B on start-up) The file provided by HP only extracts into a WinFLash.exe, so i used winRAR to extract the 3635F13.FD file from WinFlash.exe.
I understand i need rename the .FD file my question is what do i have to name the 3635F13.FD file in order to get the thumb drive to flash the BIOS.

Jan 4, 2013I have bit of a trouble with installing Windows 7 on my new ASUS X501A freedos laptop. Since the laptop has no disk drive I am installing Windows via USB device.
Everything goes smooth with the installation until it reaches the second step, asking for a cd/dvd/flash driver, not recognizing the USB device that is plugged in.

Internal Flash Reader - No Drive Letters (not A Hide Empty Drive)
Oct 8, 2012Before I even go further: yes, the "hide empty drives" has been unchecked)I had to reinstall my machine and I was able to to see the drive letters for the internal flash card reader. However I think something might have gone wrong when I give my external HDD a drive letter that was held by one of the flash card reader).I wrote "I think" because I am not really sure since I never wanted to use the internal card reader till today so I never noticed there was an issue. Anyway, the internal card reader does not show up even when I insert a card in the reader. Basically nothing happens. I have uninstalled the "USB Mass storage device" and it gets installed without any issue but the problem is still there: I can't see the reader. the INTERNAL flash card reader has a USB slot and when I insert a EXTERNAL flash drive, the EXTERNAL flash drive shows up.

Sep 26, 2012I know, should have a backup, I was actually about to create a backup when the flash drive failed on me unfortunately. My newest backup is from about 5 days ago, so I'd prefer to be able to restore the current files.
I moved the drive over to another computer and tried to save a file but when I checked again the file was gone, like it never saved at all. Subsequently, after removing and plugging it back in the computer did not detect the drive (or see it in disc management). It does show up as a generic USB drive in the device manager, but there are no properties for it.
When I add it to a computer, it still adds drivers for it, but then nothing happens after that. It may also be a hardware problem, since the drive fell on the ground pretty hard a while back, but seemed to be working fine. There isn't an easy way to open it up and check.
I also tried using a few data recovery programs, but they couldn't detect the drive either.

I have windows 7 and office on my laptop and I want it on my desktop pc. There isn't close to 64gb of info on my laptop so it should be fine even though the hard drive says I have 160gb. It is all free space except for those programs.

Jan 5, 2010I recently ran into a very weird windows 7 bit problem after installing it on my desktop. I cannot copy large files/ holders into usb flash drive or write large files to cd/ dvd. The copying/ moving process would stay on for about 5-10 seconds then freezes then I get an error message. That is:
H: refers to a location that is unavailable. it could be on a hard drive on this computer...
I have all the latest drivers.
And windows/ nero 9 can't use my dvd drive to burn files.
Some info about my system: AMD X4 630 CPU. MSI KA780G (AMD 780G chipset) mobo. I have 2 sata hdds, non raid mode. The DVD drive is IDE. 4gb ram ddr2 ram. windows 7 64 bit.

I set it to boot first on my bios and it loads but hangs up on the first background screen after the windows logo and nothing happens.This info may help. Sep 22, 2009I want to have a Windows 7 installation that can be booted from a hard disk in a USB caddy or a USB flash drive / SHDC card. So I am installing to a USB connected drive.
I have created a bootable USB flash drive with the Windows 7 install DVD contents on it, so I am in a position to install to the Netbook hosting the USB hard disk. I have also (for reference) created a VHD on a different Windows 7 machine and set it up to boot from that, on the internal HDD.
The Windows 7 installer will not install directly to a partition on my external HDD, because it is connected by USB or Firewire (err message "Windows cannot be installed to this disk"). I can't "just ignore" the warning, as suggested by some, as the Next button is inoperative.
If I create a virtual hard disk (VHD) on a partition on the external HDD I am again warned by the Installer that it can't be installed to the VHD as the "computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk". If I ignore the warning and press Next (only works for the VHD option) I am told "Setup was unable to create a new system partition....See the setup log files for more information"
I can at that stage use the Installer tools to Format the VHD etc.
So I'm stuck - where do I find the installer log files and how can I move forward to get a bootable installation on a USB connected drive ?
