So I used Fraps to record some computer gameplay, but now I've run into a bit of a snag. The file (saved as .avi) is 3.93 GB and I cannot open it in WMP, VLC or Sony Vegas to edit it.
All of the other smaller videos, captured both before and after this one, work perfectly fine. All I need to do is be able to open this in either Sony Vegas or even Windows Live Movie Maker so I can split it into smaller parts and edit it.
VLC will open with the file, but will stop after about 1 second. No audio or Video plays. I tried doing some research, and VirtualDub was recommended, but when I tried to open the file in that program I also received errors. Here are some screen shots of the file and errors:
I have a .mkv video file which I cannot rename, move, or delete. Every time I do so this message shows: "The action cannot be completed because the file is open in windows explorer. Close the file and try again." If I try to delete the folder, a similar message pops up saying that a file is in use in another program.

I'm just posting here because there are these video files which the title of the file is different to the 'name' of the file which appears below the icon. Although not the end of the world, it is annoying since when I put the files on my external HDD to play through my PS3 and that shows the title and as they all have the same title I can't tell what I am watching.
View 2 Replies View RelatedWhen viewing the properties of certain video files, such as .ts, I am not able to see the details of the video file such as audio and video bitrate. Other files such as .avi show fine.I don't know if it's related but I am also not able to view the file extensions on these same files though I can see the extensions on most others. Folder options show I am set to view hidden folders and to show file extensions. It doesn't appear to be a virus problem as I have checked with a number of virus programs and verified they found none.

1: everytime i rename the file , = Windows Explorer is not responding
2: click on the .MKV properties, nothing happened....
3: try to replace with another file with a same name = doesn't work.
4: boot from safe mode, still won't let me delete it
5: it won't let me move the .MKV to other folders as well
6. Cannot take control of it.
7. tried renaming the .mkv extension to .txt no winrar no luck.
8. tried deleting the file containing it no luck.
I have a windows 7 home premium 64 bit computer. I am trying to play an avi file. It only plays the video and not the audio.

The file is 258mb but the flash drive has 408mb free, so it's not a memory issue or anything like that. I have no idea what is going on. Both PC's are windows 7.
View 3 Replies View Relatedi have been having a persistent issue that i can't seem to fix. it started when i would watch a video on Internet; any video! i would start to watch a video and within a few minutes, it would start to stick and playback would slow down on the video and anything else i would be doing on my computer, and then even the audio would be filled with static (as if it were a radio station). i was always able to "x" out of Internet, but then i realized any video i watch anyway on the internet would do the same thing, (if it played long enough). sometimes i was able to play a whole video without this issue, but now, it is becoming persistent. sometimes this problem would start a minute after the video commences, other times, it would start 10 minutes later, or 30 minutes later. at this point i have not been able to watch any video file from any site on the www. have run scan after scan, and system says nothing is wrong. last night, i resorted just to listening to audio files (on wmp) and now it is acting up too! (sounds like i have 'bad reception on my music files all of a sudden). i ran the microsoft fixit program last night, and it suggests i should delete some codecs
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a wired network - ethernet cable from pc upstairs down to modem at television. Cable from modem to WD TV live. So all networked and wd tv is showing up correctly as a network drive.If I transfer a 350mb video file from my pc to the hard drive attached to the WD TV live, over the wired network, it takes just over one minute i.e. just over 5 megabytes a second transfer. Not great but adequate.If however I connect my Nokia N8 to the same pc and copy the file from the N8 rather than the PC (even though the N8 is connected to the pc!) the file goes to the WD TV in 28 seconds - over 12 megs a second.How can a file get transferred quicker over the network from a phone connected to the pc than from the pc itself to the same destination?
ps - the phone is displayed under "portable devices" rather than "hard disk drives" and the properties suggest it is using a protocol called MTP - media transfer protocol. I've also added another external usb drive to test the transfer and received the same results as the built in hard drive. So it does appear to be something to do with "hard drives" versus "portable devices" as recognized and dealt with by Windows.
Most video file types are showing this icon when set to open in Media Player Classic:What's strange is that it only shows that icon in details and list view.

View 1 Replies View RelatedSecondly, I'm having a few problems. I recently purchased a new laptop and was transferring files from the old ones hard drive using an enclosure. I somehow deleted my Videos and Documents sections on my new laptop. I can't paste anything, or move anything into these locations. I also can't create a new folder without getting a File System Error (512).
When I look at the properties of them, I can see that only the "public" locations are visible (Already tried resetting defaults by the way). I took a snap shot of the comparison between the music and video properties. How do I get that other location back?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have AVS Video Converter and what I'm trying to do is download 1920x1080 (I don't want 720p) video clips, converting them from mp4 to wmv and setting them as my desktop background. I use this converter because it is the first converter I tried that gives me lossless conversion to wmv. My screen resolution is 1280x800.I use the 1920x1080 video and leave all the settings except for aspect ratio which I set to 16:9 and the resolution to encode the video at 1280x800.When I set it as my desktop background, the video is still 1920x1080 and if you compare the original to the desktop background, the video is "protruding" from the screen, so I can't see some areas.I've tried setting windows background to center, tile and all options but still nothing.
