How To Disable Creation Of BootCKCL.etl
Jun 12, 2012
I've disabled Circular Kernel Context Logger from Performance Monitor but the file in C:WindowsSystem32wdiLogFiles is still getting created and the size of it increases over time while using the computer. I pretty often get errors in Event Logger about it. Like:
The maximum file size for session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" has been reached. As a result, events might be lost (not logged) to file "C:Windowssystem32WDILogFilesBootCKCL.etl". The maximum files size is currently set to 104857600 bytes.
and
Session "Circular Kernel Context Logger" stopped due to the following error: 0xC0000188
How can I disable creation of that log file or how to get rid of the errors?

I wonder if it's possible to disable automatic restore point creation, and ONLY have Windows 7 store on demand system restore points that I choose to manually create at my convenience. If I go to Administrative Tools/Task Scheduler/System Restore I find two schedule triggers. Will disabling those triggers achieve this? Will my restore points be deleted if I do this or just the schedule

Having opened a Works Database I open a Word document to create labels. "Mailings" produces the Mail Merge boxes. Having selected "use existing list" I get a box containing various coding options, Western(Windows) being highlighted - the rest are different languages, e.g. Turkish, Korean etc. On selecting "Select recipients" I get a list in one of the obscure languages. I have tried various methods but am unable to get the list from my database. Labels used to work perfectly with Word 2007 and MS Works.

I have 2 x 750GB HDD's running Windows 7 x64. One of the HDD's contains data the other is blank. Do I have to format the drive with data on it to convert both drives to being a Dynamic Disk? I don't have a backup drive to move the data to whilst I create a Dynamic Disk so hopefully the answer is no?

Have a PC with Windows 7 on it. First hard disk with Master Boot Record failed (had an install of windows xp on it) - have now removed faulty disk, but PC will not boot due to Master Boot Record not being on second disk. How do I go about re-creating the MBR on this Windows 7 install disk ?Tried googling, and as usual nobody seems to have a quick / easy fix - and tried Windows 7 repair options, doesn't work (doesn't even recognise Windows 7 is on the disk). So, I have a non-bootable PC... with access to other PC's and laptops around me (also with windows 7 on), so could plug the disk in to one of those via usb dock station etc...

the latest rtm extract did not come as an iso. Now there is a boot folder, but I can't create the correct boot disc at all.....
Everytime I burn the disc it just doesn't want to boot to it, it just bypasses it. So I can't get a clean install going.... I am running nero 9, any help would be greatly appreciated. I am not that skilled at making boot discs, detailed instructions would be great.

I recently purchased an Asus k52J laptop but decided to return it soon after. Unfortunatly even though the laptop is in new condition they won't accept it because I deletd the recovery partition like an idiot! I asked if I just restored to factory settings if they would accept it then, they still refused because it wouldn't have the recovery partition, I tried to create the recovery partion normally but it wont work since Windows 7 tries to backup the entire C drive instead of just the boot files and it inveitavbly runs out of room on the hard drive. Is there anyone way to recreate that original recovery partition or at least something that will fit in 19 gig partition?

I have a netbook with Windows 7. I tried installing Windows XP on it in an attempt to dual boot. The XP setup copied required files but failed to boot after that. The error shows " ntoskrnl.exe is missing". I tried installing XP once again using CD but still same result and windows doesn't boot. Now I don't have Windows 7 dvd and cannot repair the Windows 7 installation. But I do have a Linux Mint LiveUSB. How can I repair the situation using that?

I upgraded from Vista to Windows 7. Everything is great (big difference, I'm very pleased). I want to create a system repair disk for this new OS, just in case. But every time I load a blank CD, even after formatting it, the computer says that the CD is not blank.Yes it is! Why is it not recognizing this as a blank CD? I have tried several of them, same result.

I noticed a really annoying "feature" in Windows 7. When you click the folder icon in the navigation area of Windows Explorer (at the top - next to the three arrows), sometimes you get the actual path (I want that to be the default, but since Vista it's not) and sometimes you get a shortcut created in the folder you're in. I never want that behavior. How can I stop it from creating a shortcut (I otherwise WANT to create shortcuts, but never that way.) I want to control the text in the navigation window to ALWAYS show the real path (C:My Games), for example, instead of some useless representation (Computer > Local Disk ( C: ) > My Games), which is the current default.

I've ran into a real pickle with my HDD free space. I was in the middle of creating a brand-new VHD container for my Windows 7 installation when I mistakenly entered the incorrect VHD file size of 200 GB instead of 20 GB. Seeing how I didn't have time left since I was late for an appointment, I dediced to just shut off the machine in the middle of the VHD creation (200 GB). I learned from this mistake because thats 200 Whole GB of data I lost to use as "Free space".Now, when I came back, I found my HDD reading only 285 GB of free space is available. I have a 1 TB drive (real value= 931 GB) that has 443 GB of space taken already by files. The VHD that I interrupted was 200 GB, but I interrupted the process. Now, I don't see the VHD file AND it took all 200 GB of free space that I had. I still have the same amount of file usage of 443 GB (right-clicked the drive and saw used space) and it was indeed 443 GB. And, the weird part is, that it only showed that 285 GB was left.I tried everything from disk cleanup to chkdsk to Hidden files to no avail. Is there any way I can recover my lost free space due to my actions of shutting down PC during VHD creation?

I have Windows Virtual PC running Windows XP in windowed (not full-screen) mode.
One of the custom applications that I run in the Virtual PC makes heavy use of F1 key, however every time I press it, in addition to that program's functionality "Windows Virtual PC" help comes up as well!
Is there any way to disable the help or make it so that F1 pressed inside virtual PC does not call it ?

I have a Dell laptop model 1720. I have tried every suggestion made by numerous posts to google but I'm unable to disable my touch pad. Nothing seems to work. Dell had told me the only way to do this would be to return to factory settings. I originally purchased my computer with Vista and recently upgraded to Windows 7. With Vista, disabling the touchpad only required entering a check in a box. Now that I have Windows 7 the options are different. 'Touch Pad Pal' doesn't work at all.

I recently just upgraded my MBP with an OCZ Agility 3. Nice little SSD with some nice speeds. At the same time, I also upgraded my RAM to 2xDDR3 4GB chips. The thing's quite the beast for a little MBP.Anyway, I've been hearing that you have to disable indexing whenever your running Windows on an SSD. Is this true? Something about how the SSD's speeds are so fast that you can do without it. I have not a clue and that's why I'm moving the the SF community.

I've done the easily found registry edit ShowTipInfo for Explorer - doesnt change anything for me, ANYWHERE. I still get tooltips in IE.They're driving me nuts and are now appearing in the weirdest locations sometimes - namely the TOP of my screen. - for no apparent reason, I certainly didnt (knowingly) change anything.

Right, Im up and running with windows 7 64 bit and it is the best day of my life! But on the icon tray on the bottom right there is like a little flag like icon in which when i click it, it shows me problems, The problem consists of the away mode system and when I click the link it brings up this...Address a problem with Away Mode SystemThis problem was caused by a compatibility issue between your computer's Away Mode System and your 64-bit version of Windows. The Away Mode System is only compatible with 32-bit versions of Windows. This problem is not critical, but you can prevent it from occurring again by disabling the Away Mode System in your computer's BIOS. Refer to the instructions that came with your computer that explain how to access the BIOS and turn off Away Mode System support.
