View 3 Replies View RelatedI have got a 60gb SDD from which I boot my OS and a 1tb HDD which acts as my storage drive. Most things I can direct to the HDD, but occasionally I find that despite directing a program to install on my HDD (E: drive) its will install on BOTH the HDD AND the SSD (C: drive). For example: I created a directory on the HDD into which I installed the game AION. I then checked my SSD and saw that it was almost full and that the game had not only stored on the HDD but also the SSD.I would like to avoid this as my gbs are precious few (I have already optimized my SSD to get rid of un-needed clutter, etc.). I would like to understand the behaviour of these programs and also get your opinion on if its safe for me just to DELETE the AION folder from my c: drive (without having to go through the whole DL process again).
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm obviously brand new to the forums so I hope this is the right place for this. I should start with my type of drive; I have a 120gb Cherryville SSD from Intel serving as my C: Drive. Just the other night I had approximately 43GB left in my C: Drive (note this is incredibly low as well, but I was content). Last night I checked again and saw that I was down to 25! I performed a disk defrag and that actually decreased my storage to 23! I am absolutely puzzled as to the cause of this.
The only thing I have done between the time that I had over 40 and last night was update my visual BIOS (having nothing to do with my C: Drive at all) and download a simple XML update for Microsoft Expressions (which was measured in kilobytes). Granted I have done my fair share of updating .net framework and various other updates, but all of my major programs are on my hard drive, not my SSD. To put this into visual perspective, I'd like to share a photo showing around 25GB of space taken that is absolutely nowhere to be found, I find it hard to believe that Windows and a few programs can take up nearly 90GB of storage.
I just formatted my computer. i used to have a windows drive, and a storage drive that was almost full. i installed windows on the windows drive, and didn't touch the storage drive. after windows booted up, i assigned a letter to the storage drive and i was able to see it in my computers folder. but now i have new problem: i can't install games or anything onto the harddrive. they say something like: can't create file. but, i can paste files into it.

g: 230GB for installed programs and relocated windows folders. (Windows page files and user's folders)
h: the balance is unallocated at this time. Reserved for maybe umbutu/xp,etc.
1. Would it be better to install programs on f:, if so should I shrink it ?
2. Do you think the size of each is adequate?
3. Slould I install the Gpu drivers to the SSD?
4. Is is bad to keep changing and deleting volumes?
5. Should I partition the SSD boot in 2, one for OS 1 for games.

View 2 Replies View Relatedi have 2 harddrives 1 for os and the other for storage. i encrypted my entire storage drive because its easier to do then ur os because you needsome kind of card key or usb for the boot drive, but anywho im curious if i unlock the drive so i can access the files does that means its then visable to hackers? or does it need to be locked at all times to remain hidden and encrypted. so my question is if someone hacked into my pc from another computer and i already unlocked my storage drive, would the hackers be able to see all the files on it?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a HP Pavilion with Windows 7 Premium 64, and have my computer back up daily, with weekly system image back ups using the Windows back up utility. This backs up to a DLink DNS 323 network storage device. Last Friday my hard drive failed, and I didn't feel too bad becuase of my back ups. Yesterday after replacing the hard drive I tried using the System Repair Disc to restore the System Image, but couldn't locate anything on the network to restore. I checked with DLink support and they said this is a Windows issue. Hoping I can get some ideas how to proceed and get my data on the new hard drive. THe DLink site suggested that I try everything out before I need it to make sure it all works as planned. I would have no idea how to try out the System Repair Disc and restore the System Image without having a blank hard drive or jeopardizing the data on my current drive.

The problem is, now my external WD 1TB external drive is not recognized. I went to the Sony site for drivers for mass storage, however all I could see was a chipset.exe for 32bit vista/ Windows 7. Ran it anyway and still get the message 'Unknown device' 'Driver software was not successfully installed' Even tried using 'DriverDoctor' to install missing drivers, but no joy.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have noticed that a number of videos in my archive have disappeared. It is not a high percentage of the videos, just one here and there. Diagnostics show nothing wrong with the storage drive, nor anything else that I can think of. At first I thought it must have been due to me accidentally deleting a file, or not really having saved it as I thought that I had, but I now know that is not the case. I'm accustomed to what usually happens when a file becomes corrupted, it just becomes unusable, but still remains visible to the file manager and other programs, but I'm wondering if it might totally disappear?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm getting an odd error trying to connect from my Windows 7 laptop to an XP PC.he XP computer is 'seen' on the network, and I can see the shared folders on that computer. The problem comes when I try to see inside those folders. I get this error message:[Window Title]Open Folder[Content] \DOCOFFICEDoc Office C is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. Not enough server storage is available to process this command.Anyone have a clue what's going on here? I believe all of my sharing permissions are correct, and the XP computer can see files on the Windows 7 machines (I have two laptops that I'm playing with Windows 7 on). Both Windows 7 laptops generate the same error trying to access the XP machine, though they can see and access each other just fine. I've run through all of the troubleshooters multiple times to no avail, disabled and re-enabled network access (both wireless and Ethernet connections), and still get that same error consistently.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've got a fairly recent Win7 x64 install on my system. Since Beta, I've been getting an error message "Not enough storage is available to process this command", which is accompanied by a stop code 0xc142 when launching items like Task Manager. I've seen the first error is typically related to the Windows Desktop Heap, but I've set from the original (2GB if I'm reading it correctly), to 4GB of space. I'm running a system with 1.7TB of available drive space (20GB on the OS drive as it's a smaller SSD drive) and 6GB of RAM. I've tried varying the windows page file from 500MB to the system-controlled 6GB with the same result.
