How To Disable Append DNS Suffixes Windows 7

When the laptop was setup in house everything was working fine. They are having issues with it at home though. When I remoted in I noticed the DNS APpend these DNS suffixes was checked and two of our domains are listed. I'm thinking this is the root of the issues but the options are grayed out and I cannot change them. I tried looking through other forum posts that suggest changing settings in gpedit under Computer/Administrative Templates/Network/DNS Client (Allow DNS Suffix APpending to Unqualified Multi-Label Name Queries and Primary DNS Suffix Devolution both to enabled) and then rebooted but there was no change. Is there something else I need to do in order to changes this setting?

I am using 7 for the first time today - I was downloading Alvira anti-virus and was asked to disable Windows Defender. It said something about tools - options etc, but the only place I would find Windows Defender was in the program files and nothing about tools etc. Noting in system tray either.

I have a wierd problem which I think is related to a dodgy keyboard. basically my customer has a G61-401sa laptop in which the Ctrl key seems to be constantly 'on' or pressed if you will. It's taken me a while to notice this ( through doing other things to her system) and in all honesty it isnt on all the time, however I noticed it yesterday after I was setting up her email and tried to paste her address into the required area (crtl +V) since then its on and off, more 'on' than off and I wondered if its possible to dissable the Ctrl key completely? obviously at some point she needs to replace the keyboard but I know shes loath to spend more money on a laptop she's had nothing but trouble with (loads of problems since she bought it from currys but thats another story)

I'm interested to know whether its possible to disable the system clock? We all know applications and websites can get access to our time zone, etc. I often use anonymous browser clients such as TOR & JonDo to protect my online privacy. For example, I might be set an IP address in Russia, but live in America. The thing is - websites can still access our time zone on the computer so they will I'm not in Russia but actually in xxxx state in America. I don't want to change the time to something random as I've heard this can destabilize the computer and its applications. So is it possible to disable it? If not - is there a browser configuration to block access to it? I did attempt running it under Sandboxie but that doesn't work either.

Is there any way we can disable any particular Windows update?
My laptop is Lenvo thinkpad edge 14 which is having a Bluetooth 2 compatible hardware. And I'm using Home Premium x64. I can see the windows update driver for Bluetooth 3.0 is available for download, and it is automatically getting the driver downloaded! The problem is laptop getting restarted very frequently without any information on eventlog! a sudden restart! As per my primary investigation I can see only this one as a culprit.

just got lappy with win 7. Taking long time to warm to it but getting there. Need to install Kaspersky internet security 2010 3-user before i go internet with new machine.reading the literature on this site and following it to the letter, i have been trying to disable windows defender but no joy.WHAT I HAVE DONE1. msconfig - there is nothing at all under 'startup' but found it in 'services' tried to 'stop' but theres a note that says some important windows services cannot be disabled. what? that cant be right.

Opened defender panel and tried to go Tools , Options but i cant, no manipulation of any of the options is allowed from the defender menu, it seems to be waiting for me to download updates from the net. (No way jose until i got kaspersky on it!)3. ctrl+alt+del, Task Manager, Services, found defender, right click to stop service and window pops up to say 'Operation cant be completed, access denied' . I am administrator as there is only one user.4.am looking for this services.msc but i cant find it. what is it?

i have a PC with intel DH61WW Motherboard and windows 7 Ultimate installed on i and i have a USB Modem Connected to this PC, whenever the Modem is connected to this PC windows won't shutdown it stucks on shutting down windows and i turn it off by pressing the power button for 10 seconds but when i remove the usb cable from the PC and i shut it down it shutdown normally how can i make windows disable USB ports while shutting down?

My Windows 7 randomly entering sleep mode and not waking up. I've found one of the things that can fix it is to disable hybrid sleep. However, I can't see that option. I am really curious how to disable Windows logging. I was reading something on Wikipedia about privacy and security; and came across something interesting that I cannot find much about on Google. It stated that "many programs and operating systems are set up to perform data logging of usage". For example, this might be recording the times when the computer was in use, or some applications we use on Windows. In Vista, I could turn off snipping tool via Turn Windows Features On and Off > uncheck Tablet PC Components.
In Win 7, I read that snipping too is part of the operating system in Home Premium, Ultimate, Pro and Enterprise. Unchecking Tablet PC Components will not disable snipping tool.
So, how do I disable it, or is it possible at all ?

Sometimes you want to do CTRL+Z in an application but since it's not focused you happen to do it in windows explorer by error, undoing stuff you've done like renaming/moving directories. So I would like to disable the CTRL+Z hotkey in windows explorer (not in other applications though); I don't use it anyway.
