My headphones are plugged into the headphone jack but when I play sound it only goes through the speakers, not the headphones.
I tried going to Playback Devices and enabling them, but headphones don't even show up as an option.
I agree that to run DOS stuff on Windows 7 a DOSshell is the way to go, but I had a DOS and Linux partitions setup before I installed Windows 7 and guess what, it doesn't see them at all! It seems like Windows 7 isn't backward compatable at all, or perhaps doesn't read FAT16 (EXT3 I didn't expect it to read), will check FAT32...Yup reads FAT32 from USB sticks, but reads FAT16 from USB Sticks, just not FAT16 first partition (MSDOS6.22) from the main SATA drive (C: is the fourth and last partition).

View 6 Replies View RelatedI just upgraded to windows 7 (on a new laptop). In XP there were two icons which indicated whether I was connected to a wireless network or to a cable modem. I could easily go from one another which is important to me as I use my laptop at my home/office with the cable modem and travel with it and use wireless.These icons aren't on my new laptop which has windows 7. So its not as direct to switch from one to the other.how to make this process easier? (currently I went to the control panel - network connections - enable wireless - too many steps)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am not at all very good with computers, it even took me a minute to figure out my OS lol! but i have a serious problem: My USB drivers are no longer reading my phones and other devices the message i get is "USB Device Not Recognized", When i click the message and go through the troubleshoot it gets no where. It's like my computer doesn't even realize that the devices and drivers are malfunctioning, also i don't know if it is related but it seems like files, apps and folders are constantly being deleted without my consent and no one else has access to my pc. i suspect foul play hidden in my system.

It seems to get reset periodically to the default which 40% for both battery and plugged in. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce the problem but every few days the plugged in setting gets reset to 40%. Is this a known problem with Windows 7?

There is no problem with icons - they all are there, but the notifications aren't display.My taskbar is set to autohide. When there must be a notification - i.e. when I disconnect a flash drive - the task bar stays for a moment (like there is a notification) and then hides, but there is no notification shown at all. The situation is the same with all other notifications.By default I work with the checked option "Always show all icons and notifications on the taskbar". I tried to uncheck this option and select "Show icon and notifications" for all icons, also tried to set "Only show notifications", with no success - the notifications aren't display under any circumstances.I tried to Reset the notification area icons cache, but this also doesn't help. Tried to turn off Aero - no change. Tried to turn On/Off "Always show all taskbar icons and notifications" using reg files from here, in both cases there are still no notifications.In fact not a single notification showed in any way for the last week.

But then it didnt work, so i used uniblue registry booster to clean my system registry, and after that no music or sound (apart from the UAC bloop sound) worked.

I have a Zotac 570 gtx connected via HDMI cable to my Asus VE258 LED monitor.I've had this video card and monitor setup working before with the exact cable, card and monitor.Something changed in my system where the monitor is no longer recognized for what it is. When i go into my Nvidia control panel under change resolution 1.Digital Display, 2. DVI-PC Display - Resolution 1080p 59 Hz. There is no DVI cable plugged into the computer and the monitor is set on HDMI input. When i go to my Audio playback devices, the HDMI connection does not show up at all, even as disabled or disconnected.When i go to play a game (Diablo 3, Skyrim, Farcry2) The game either doesn't open (skyrim) giving me the error that resolution is not recognized (but then does not give me any resolutions to choose from in the options menu) or will play (Diablo 3) but is stuck on extremely low resolutions with only 2 options.
Here's what i've done. Contacted Zotac and had them send me the most recent drivers for the video card. Uninstalled originals and re-installed the new ones. Contacted Asus (they say its not the monitor as long as its set on HDMI input) I am unable to find a driver that will make my computer (Windows 7) recognize the monitor for what it is. Zotac failed after their attempt with the driver and told me to RMA the card. So i did... i waited a month.
I googled how to open ports and it told me go in to windows firewall>advanced setting>new rule etc. I want to install a game so I need certain ports to be open and unrestricted. When I used online port checker sites they all say the required ports aren't open
View 2 Replies View RelatedNew i5-8570k with Z77X-D3H build. SSD's & HD's. 1 backup HD is in a caddy (simple SATA connection, its not a raid device) with on/off switch. BIOS is AHCI by default. Installed Win7 Pro x64 then after chipset drivers with mobo DVD. IRST is installed but notes say it should be installed during o/s install. How to confirm AHCI is on? The drives aren't listed in safely remove/eject hardware icon in systray. HD Caddy is useless because hot swap isn't working or on.
Does the new Z77 chipset require the drivers to be installed during O/S install? I tried that with files on USB flash drive but Win7 prevented it because the drivers were unsigned. These are Intel's latest drivers for the Series 7 chipsets. I've tried to confirm whether i have AHCI on or not, 'AS SSD benchmark' detects 'iaStor'. I guess if the chipset drivers must be installed before o/s install then the question becomes "How to install Intel drivers that aren't signed during O/S install". There is no 'ignore & continue' option.
so i was connected my bass amplifier (from headphone output) to the line in and i recorded the sound with soundbooth. when i played it back it was kind of skipping so i changed the quality to a higher hz and i recorded and it sounded right. when i went to move my amplifier a bit, because cables were all over the place, strange noises started comming out of the speaker. i unplugged the amplifier and restarted the computer and the sound and the realtek icon were gone . so i reinstalled the drivers and the icon was back, but the computer wasnt detecting when i plugged in my speakers or headphones. so i dugg deeper and checked my BIOS and everything was ok. i then went and uninstalled every driver related to sound with device manager and driver sweeper and reinstalled everything in safe mode. i even tried windows recovery and it still didnt work.i'm wondering now do i have to buy a soundcard or is there something else i can try?there aren't any yellow triangles in device manager and the realtek hd audio says that the device is working properly. With the task manager running, I attempted to access Internet Explorer. iexplorer.exe appears in the task manager / process tab with a *32 suffix. It gives me the impression that it's attempting to load, than terminates. Now, imagine this headache for all applications. Nothing will load... None of the startupapplications either [Making Virus Scans & new anti virus installs, impossible].Everything I attempt to load, appears in the process tab of the task manager w/ a *32 suffix then quits. I'd like to try a restore, but I don't have the windows 7 dvd-rom.Before I pay to have it restored, I wonder if there's a way to have this crisis removed myself.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 64 bit and when I boot up windows without headphones plugged in, the sound works fine through the speakers but when I plug in the headphones they do not work. If I unplug the headphones, the sound starts coming out of the speakers. I have tried manually switching devices but that didn't work either and if I try to adjust volume the sound mixer crashes.
I just have integrated audio (device manager lists it as High Definition Audio Device and IDT High Definition Audio CODEC).
If I plug in the headphones and then start the laptop, the sound works fine through the headphones.
Any info on what may be going on?
I have one hard drive that I multi-boot with XP and 7. Headphones work fine. Other hard drive is just Windows 7 and headphones don't work (speakers work fine). I have tried unplugging and plugging them in: search for new hardware and rebooting many times, all with no luck.
When I go into "sound" in control panel and unplug my speakers it tells me that there is no audio device attached (this doesn't happen on my dual boot drive) and when I try to add a new device, it searches endlessly for new devices and not only never stops, but never finds any devices.
Don't know if it matters since all of my hardware works when I use the dual boot drive, but I have a Dell XPS 720 aand an X-fi PCI sound card although the headphones plug into the front panel of the computer, not the sound card (yes I tried plugging directly into the sound card).
Yesterday I did the full install of windows 7 from XP, I ran the windows update and recieved an update for my realtek sound card along with about 8 other updates, my speakers work fine from the rear jack but when i plug in my headphones into the front jacks nothing happens i dont even get a recognition of them being plugged in and there is no headphones icon in the playback devices tab, it shows the speaker icon and the Realtek hi defintion audio device icon only.
Can anyone please give me an idea as to how I can enable my headphones through the front jacks?
My laptop has 2 headphone jacks on the side. But since I installed Windows 7 I can't use both of them at the same time, instead I can only hear sound out of the first one that was plugged in. I don't want seperate audio coming from them, I want the same, so I don't see why there is a problem.

I installed the latest drivers for the Bluetooth Adapter I had purchased and was on my merry way.Went to the control panel, choose to add a bluetooth device after putting the headset in pairing mode and much to my dismay, Windows 7 can't seem to find the headset... I had not used my desktop for one week due to some problem of too much dust accumlating in the machine. Due to this the system would not power up. After the dust was removed, system powers up but i now get this problem with sound. Before this everything was fine. The speakers work fine on the laptop.I installed the drivers from the motherboard driver disc. I am using a gigabyte board (GA-G31M-ES2L).I have installed the drivers directly from the gigabyte website for my motherboard as well as from the realtek website.Also updated bios online from gigabyte server. But none of these methods causes sound to be restored.Theres no exclamation mark by the audio drivers in Device Manager. I have removed the audio drivers and after a restart, i still get the "no speakers or headphones are plugged in" error on the speaker icon.In device manager after restarting the system, i get the "high definition audio" device listed under "Sound, video and game controllers".Now i am wondering there is something wrong with the motherboard.
I am still getting my sound coming through my speakers with the headphones plugged in. Not sure but I am wondering could it be the new drivers.
